Brittany's POV

Shane: So President Tube altered my memories so he could use me against the rebels?

Brittany: Yeah.

Shane: Why are we rebelling?

Brittany: The Capital kills people for fun. They make a game out of it.

Shane: The YouTube Games...

Brittany: What?

Does he remember?

Shane: I was in the games. Twice.

Brittany: Yes! With Joey!

Shane: So he tried to kill me there?

Brittany: No. He was your ally. He protected you. You protected him.

Shane: I don't remember that.

Brittany: Well-

Chad: We have them recorded if you would like to watch them Shane. Maybe it will help you remember.

I turn and see Chad leaning in the doorway. Shane nods so he walks over to the tv. He hits a few buttons and the Reaping from nearly two years ago plays.

I hope this works. Fingers crossed.

Shane's POV

For the next few days I watch the last two YouTube games. I wish I could forget that. But at the same time, Joey and I look so in love.

Everyone keeps telling me that he would never hurt me. He loves me.

Now I can see it. But I can't forget the fake memory. Every time I see his face that same memory comes to mind.

I want to forget because I know Joey isn't bad. But I can't. It sticks out in my mind. It won't go away.

Brittany: Do you remember anything now?

Shane: A lot actually. I remember the games, the reaping, every part of that. I remember Joey too.

Lisa: So do you want to see him?

I bite my lip. Maybe I just need to be alone with him to know he won't kill me. Baby steps.

Talk. Maybe touch him. Eventually go back to the ways we were before.

I nod my head. Brittany runs out of the room to fetch Joey.

Shane: Can we be alone?

Lisa: Of course.

The she leaves as I wait for Joey. The love of my life and my worst nightmare.

Joey's POV

Brittany: Joey!

Joey: What?

Brittany: He remembers you! He wants to see you!

Joey: You're kidding right?

Brittany: I'm not! Now come on. Shane's waiting.

I smile and follow her. I finally get to see Shane. I lied. I wasn't fine with staying away. I wasn't.

But now he wants to see me! I stand outside of his room. I open the door and step in.

I want to run over to him. But I stop and look at his face.

Baby steps Joey. Let him get comfortable before you try something crazy.
