"katherine just pick a ball already, it doesn't matter," michael groaned at me, obviously annoyed. i had been sitting on the floor mentally weighing out the pros and cons of the 12 pound ball for a good ten minutes. the truth was just that i didn't want to be bowling and was going to make him as miserable as possible. i was a shit bowler and he knew i was just going to embarrass myself. he also knew that liam dragged me bowling every chance he got, bowling being one of the only things he was good at. i bet he takes lauren bowling all the time, too, she always liked bragging that she didn't need bumpers. too bad she didn't know how to stay in her own lane when it came to boyfriends.

"you okay there?" i jumped at luke's voice, letting out a tiny scream. damn it, noodle. he literally towered over me, blocking all of the light. i nodded my head before turning back to the green ball in front of me. the purple one was much prettier, but it was 14 pounds and that would mean more work for me. i held the ball in my hands for a few seconds as someone sat next to me. it was luke.

"the heavier the ball the easier it is to get a strike, you know." i thought about his words before standing up with my purple ball. i heard michael start to say something, but he was quickly interrupted my crystal walking over. she was apologizing for being late, but they all assured her it was okay. she grabbed a ball quickly and just like that we were ready to play. we ended up with an uneven amount of people, but michael decided that since i'm shit at bowling my team could have the extra, who ended up being luke. calum went on our team, i'm assuming because him and rose couldn't stop cracking jokes about god knows what. luke put our names in and just like that we were bowling.

as everyone already had guessed, i did awful. michael refused to allow me to use bumpers, meaning i got a lot of gutter balls in our first game. rose and calum spent most of their time doing trick shots and joking around, but luke took his turns quite seriously. it obviously helped him a lot, considering the fact that he scored a lot of strikes and spares. we decided to pay for a second game because we were having a lot of fun, so i kept my mouth shut about my aching feet. we took a small snack break before we started, michael moaning about the noises his stomach was making.

"it's going to get dark out if we don't start already. i don't want to drive in the dark, guys." ashton sometimes acted like a dad, scolding his younger friends. he reminded me a lot of jane. he scolded his friends a lot, but also knew how to joke around with them. jane was like our mom in a way, always keeping us out of trouble for the most part. everyone started standing up and going to their lanes, michael walking over to me as crystal searched for a new ball.

"how come you never invited me to go bowling with your friends before uni?" i heard michael laugh a little before he responded.

"because my friends didn't like you then." ouch, mikey. i rolled my eyes at him before walking back over to my lane, falling into the seat next to rose. she laid her head on my shoulder, neither of us really speaking. we sat like this until it was my turn to bowl.

"why did i agree to this?" i mumbled to nobody in particular, earning a small chuckle from luke. he stood up and walked over to me quickly, taking the ball from my hands. i had to tilt my head upwards just to see him, obviously amusing him.

"what are you doing, lucas?"

"it's actually just luke."

"right. so lucas, can i have my bowling ball?" he laughed again, but still didn't give me back the bowling ball.

"i'm going to teach you how to bowl." i heard someone, most likely michael or calum, laughing from behind us, but i chose to ignore them. go suck a dick, clifford. before i could respond luke had set the ball back in my hands and was leading me to the line of dots in front of the lane. he had me stand on the dots and hold the ball in front of me, making sure my elbows were tucked in and everything.
