Jason's pov

I'm jolted awake to a fearful gasp. "What? What's wrong?" I gasp struggling to wake up enough. "Oh uh sorry. J-Just a bad d-dream." She mumbles. I squint in the darkness and see my frightened girlfriend. "It's okay. It was just a bad dream." I say hugging her. "What are we doing tomorrow?" She whispers against my chest. "I don't... I don't know." I shakily whisper. We were currently sleeping on a park bench. Getting a record deal is harder than I thought. "I'm sorry for waking you." "Don't be baby. I've had my fair share of nightmares." I whisper, exhausted just thinking about it.

*the next day*

I wake up, seeing my girl stretching, looking like she just woke up too. "I'm hungry, Jase." Come to think of it, so am I. We haven't eaten since we ditched town in Florida. And that was a while ago. "What do we do?" I bite my lip. I've got no money. "Darlin' I hate to do this but... Here's where your hotness takes advantage. People might pity you." "I hate being pitied, Jason!" "It's either that or go hungry cause I'm broke." "Do I have to?" I sigh sadly. "I don't want you to but.." She sighs. "I'm sorry babe."

Miranda's pov

I take a deep breath. "Ok here goes nothing." I whisper worried. I sit on a park bench near a hot dog cart. I'm already dirty from the few days on a train and sleeping in a park. I hold my stomach, trying to act as starving as I feel.

Luke's pov

I glanced over and saw a girl! She looked starving. I quickly made a couple hot dogs. "Here." I say, handing them to her. "B-But I don't got any money." She mumbles, looking away. "Don't worry. They're on the house." "Thanks. I haven't eaten in days!" I smile. There ya go, Luke. Proving that good people still exist. "Thanks."

Jason's pov

I watched them from behind a tree. "Yes!" I gasp under my breath. They're talking though. Why doesn't she just get going?! She's got the food! I stare at them while they talk. "What... What if... I'm not good enough?" Hell I know I'm not. I'm just a petty thief, running from my past. "I'm nowhere near as good for a woman like her." I whisper, grabbing my guitar and taking off, fighting back tears. I'll never be good enough for her. "Jason!" I hear her calling me. I press myself against a tree, trying to control my breathing. "Where are you?!" I peek out. She looks confused... And.... Terrified. My breath catches. My promise.

Miranda's pov

He steps out from behind a tree, looking shaken. "What happened?" "A c-cop." He mumbles, looking at the ground. I hand him a hot dog and we eat hot dogs. "I don't feel like I'm good enough for you." He whispers, his shoulders shaking. "What?! I don't care about being good enough. You're the best in my eyes." "Really?" I nod and hug him tight. "Why? You could have that hot dog cart guy. He's got a job and money. I'm just a broke loser!" "I don't love that hot dog cart guy. I love you." "I don't see why." He whispers. I hug him tight, laying my head against his chest. "You don't have to." I whisper closing my eyes.

*later*

"Hey baby." Jason whispers, waking me up. "What?" I ask. "I... I want to tell you." I look up at him. He was staring terrified at the sky. "I'm listening." "I... My dad.... He... Was in the military... And... One day... H-He d-didn't come home... After t-that mom... L-Lost it. B-Became emotionally and physically abusive. Broke my arm once even. I... I had to leave... I've... I've been runnin' ever since... They... They tried to put me in a boys' home... B-But I r-refused... Didn't look back since. Haven't. Won't. And here I am. I was runnin' from the cops when I met you." "Wow." I gasp. "Dad would be so ashamed if he was still here." I hug him. "He would be ashamed but not of you." His eyes go wide. "What?" "He'd be ashamed of your mom for treating you like that." He sighs. "I wish dad was here." He whispers, bowing his head. "Me too, Jase."
