Have you ever known an individual that changed your life? I have. And although I know she'll never see this, I want to thank her.
Four years ago, I started playing the flute. You may think that this doesn't mean much, but to me my flute represents so much more than simple music notes. It represents this person who changed my life.
She was my grade seven and eight teacher. She taught us music, math, and history with a passion. But it wasn't really what she was teaching, it was how she was teaching it. She taught with a quiet yet commanding air, captivating the class. Of course there were the troublemakers, but she dealt with them with patience and understanding.
I remember one day when she showed us the Same Love music video and explained what the LGBTQ+ community was. What she was doing by showing us this was teaching acceptance. Obviously this was a huge thing to me because at the time I was questioning my sexuality. But it wasn't just this one day where something like this happened. There was a day where all we did in one literacy class was brainstorm ideas about what qualities make a good friend. Another day, she literally gave us a lecture about spreading rumours just because other students were talking about myself and my male best friend having... "sexual relations."
I guess what I'm trying to say is, she inspired me to take the lonely path of teaching acceptance and dedicating my life to helping others. Without her, I would never have become the person I am today. I don't know where I'd be without the music she taught, the time she spent helping me with math to ensure I was doing my best. For all this, I will forever be grateful.
A/N: This was certainly not meant to be creepy in any way. I'm simply just expressing my gratitude.

PoetryBasically a beautiful mess of poetic and... erm, decidedly less so writing. Beware of the occasional full-on speech.
