FOURTEEN

FOURTEEN – Jealousy [Caine]

Entering the room with JJ, I saw Victoria laying in her mates arms with her eyes showing the pain she felt inside and the amusement she felt for Layke and Taink's banter.

I knew the moment Lex sensed me, a growl ran through the room. Stopped by Victoria turning to glare at her mate and telling him, "stop it or I will choose him over you". That earned her a small growl, but Alexander stayed silent after that.

Lusan moved then, and I froze my body so that I wouldn't jump. He was by the window. But his movement had caused him to turn to face the room. I hated that I hadn't seen him until he'd moved. He'd always been able to do that.

Watching JJ, I felt jealousy rise as he moved to lay across the bottom of the bed like the cat he was. I knew as a fact that if I'd done it, I'd have had my face clawed off.

"How are you, Vic?" JJ asked once he was comfy. His question caused Taink and Layke's banter to stop, and Lusan to move to the end of the bed.

"I'm okay, nothing I can't cope with at the moment. What did you guys find out?"

I leant against the doorway as JJ then continued. Noticing that, once again, Alexander was letting the other tigers near his mate. All of them but me.

"Have you marked her?" JJ asked Alexander.

Alexander shook his head in response. "No."

"Thank god for small mercy's."

Alexander growled at that. Taking JJ's words as a threat.

JJ quickly held his hands up. "If you mark her now, you could kill her, that's all."

Both Alexander and Victoria froze.

"Kill me?" the wobble of fear in Victoria's voice didn't go unnoticed. A couple of the cats in the room tensed as they heard it. Including myself.

"Our uncle found his human mate a while ago. He said that while his mate was going through the change – that's what your going through – he marked her. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect to what he thought would happen. Instead of helping his mate through the pain, the mark sealed her halfway through and the tiger in her ended up killing her... our uncle said he lost his tiger that day too."

I clenched my hands to prevent myself from moving further into the room. The shards of pain that my nails digging into my hand helped. But the urge to go in and comfort the pain...

"He also said that you, Alexander, have to help her through it."

"How am I supposed to do that?" Alexander demanded.

  

JJ shrugged. "I quote, "If I knew that, little brother, I would have my female standing here with me"."
