THIRTY-FIVE – Second Love [Victoria]

Any evidence of the fight was gone by the time I woke next. I wasn't sure what lead me to come back to where the war had taken place, but I had. There wasn't a single drop of blood. Nor could I smell any blood. Even the stench of fear, rage, determination, and victory was gone. And it hadn't even rained.

I felt fur brush my side and knew it was the clouded leopard. She hadn't left my side once since she'd seen me on the battlefield. Much to Lex's annoyance. She'd even gone into the bathroom with me last night.

Standing with a sigh, I turned back for the house. Six days, next Tuesday and the wolves would be back to agree to a treaty. Christopher had already told me that he would sort it out with a couple of were's, but my being Omega would make it better if I was there next Tuesday when both parties signed the treaty. All were's who weren't here were being told that a treaty was being made. Whether they wanted to know or not.

Entering the house, I moved through the were's until I found Lex, he was looking around as though he was looking for something. Then his eyes fell on me and the worry in his eyes melted away, replaced with joy. Before I could move over to Lex, I had Charlie giving me a hug.

I gasped. "Charlie!" I wrapped my arms around him as tightly as I could.

He laughed, and let me go. Lex quickly wrapped his arms around my middle and pulled me to him, sending Charlie a glare to which we both rolled our eyes.

"How are you, Vic?" Charlie asked as Lex nuzzled my hair.

I felt my smile drop at his words. How was I? I hadn't really thought about it. The last time I'd thought about how I truly felt had been before... my mothers death.

"Hey, hey, hey, don't cry!" Charlie said, pulling me to him – or, since Lex wouldn't let go, pulling himself to me. Then in a quieter voice he continued.

I gripped Charlie's shirt as I soaked it quietly. I felt the clouded leopard rub against my leg, trying to sooth me. Lex wrapped himself around me while snuggling his face into the crook of my neck. I didn't care right then that his nose was cold, or that his breathing tickled my neck. I just cried.

I wasn't sure how much time past. But when I did stop crying, my heart still aching a dull pain that I knew wouldn't go no matter how much I cried, I saw that the room was empty but for us four.

School wasn't so hard when you finally got back into the routine of it. I was never alone, but during some classes, thanks to Lex and Charlie and even Rick. The teacher who snapped at us before didn't even look at us now. To which I'm grateful that all the coursework had been earlier in the year or else I'm sure he would have failed us both. Morgan didn't bother us much any more, but that probably had something to do with her new arm candy – I mean, her new boyfriend.

Looking at the clock, I saw that I had five minutes left of school. But then it was treaty time. I'd received a text on my new blackberry – thanks to Christopher – saying that the wolves had arrived, but they were waiting for my return. It also said :

YOUR SECOND LOVE IS WAITING FOR YOU.

My second love? What was that? As soon as the bell went, I stood and left the classroom with my bag over my shoulder. What ever the text had meant had been bugging me since I'd received that text message twenty minutes ago.

Rushing to find Lex, I apologised to his friends as I dragged him away. But dragging was pointless, because the moment I'd started tugging for him to hurry up, he'd put his arm over my shoulder and we were walking for the exit.

As we left the building, I shouted a goodbye to Charlie and Rick who were now an official couple in the school, much to the majorities shock. I wonder what they would think if they found out that Charlie was a Prince of all Werebirds? They probably wouldn't toss insults at him every five minutes. With that, I wondered if Rick knew about Charlie's being a Prince?

Once they'd replied, I started looking for my "second love". Finding it was easy when you saw a crowd surrounding her and Lusan's six-foot-eight angelic height towering over all the students like a fallen angel.

My second love : Lusan's sleek black, brand-new, Dodge Charger.

Lex grumbled as he felt my excitement at seeing the car rise about how I was never that excite to see him. At those thoughts, I turned back to him kissed him on the lips and said. "You'll always be my first love, Lex. No matter what, promise."

Lex smiled before leaning his six-two height down to my five-three. As his lips met mine, I felt him asking for entrance, running his tongue along my lips. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I let him in, standing on tip toes so he wouldn't have to reach so far, leaning against him for balance. His arms wrapped around my middle tightly as though he'd never let me go. He tasted wild, and he'd been chewing tic tacs in his last class as I could taste the orange.

Suddenly, we were ripped apart when another set of arms wrapped around me and pulled. But unlike last time, Lex refused to let me go.

"Make out in the car," Lusan said, and I was sure I heard some amusement in his voice. "We've got to get back."

At the mention of the car, I moved away from both of them and headed for the car.

I giggled when I heard Lex mumble. "And I was just getting her to choose me over your car."

"If she had to make a choice, little brother," Lusan started. "Have no fear that it would be you."
