TWENTY-FOUR – Building Shook [Christopher]

Watching Victoria turn and return to room that was now hers with Alexander on her heel, I wondered whether she realised the power she'd held in her voice.

Suddenly, the mental link between myself, and all my sons was open.

They all think you're going to send Lusan after them if they go against you, Alexander's voice said.

I know... Victoria replied with a sigh. I didn't mean it, it was an empty threat. I forgot Lusan was behind me.

We all chuckled as Lusan frowned.

You forgot he was behind you?

Victoria frowned at Alexander. Yea.

Alexander laughed.

What?

Vic, you know Lusan can hide in a corner and suddenly appear?

Yea, so what?

As you were speaking, he was doing the opposite. Then you made the threat, forgetting he was behind you.

I don't get what's so funny.

Alexander sighed. Lusan can be "invisible" or he can make his presence fill a room. He was filling a room, and you didn't even notice.

Oh.

At Victoria's surprise, Ink was leaning on the wall trying to hold himself up. Layke didn't bother, instead he was laying on the floor clutching his stomach in laughter. I was chuckling. Lusan stood with a strange look on his face.

"What's so funny?" one from the crowd asked.

"Victoria," I managed to get out. "She forgot that Lusan was standing behind her as she told you all not to stand on guard around her house. Then when Alexander explained what she had done without realising, she was shocked."

The crowd blinked and stared at us as though we'd lost it.

"Lusan, you must be loosing your touch if a girl that size isn't scared of you," only Layke would dare say something like that as he rolled on the floor.

Victoria and Lex reappeared a moment later, both dressed. They stared at my sons with wide eyes.

"Uh, what's so funny?" Victoria asked.

Ink fell to the floor at the question, and I was sure the building shook. Layke howled and clutched his stomach. Lusan frowned at his twin. And even some of the crowd laughed.

"Come on," Lex said to his mate. "Let's get out this mad house."

That sent Layke over the edge, and tears from laughing too much started falling.

Watching them wide eyed, Victoria and Alexander made for an escape.
