TWENTY-SEVEN – Surprise That Froze [Christopher]

Looking away from Darren Leon, I watched as Lusan entered with a frown on his face. That made me pause. Lusan didn't frown. If he did, then it obviously wasn't for anything good. I could only wonder the reason was for his frown. He'd just come back from dropping Victoria back home. I felt my stomach drop.

"Lusan," I called.

Lusan's amber eyes snapped in my direction. He let out a hiss of surprise that froze the room. Except Alexander, who seemed to be frowning into his own world. But the reason for the shock was because Lusan was never surprised.

"What's happening, Lusan?" I demanded. "Is it Victoria?"

The house gave this one room all the attention they could at Victoria's name.

Lusan frowned and appeared to be deep in thought as Layke turned up next to him. Standing ready to help his identical twin.

"Something was..." Lusan paused, trying to find the right word, and with his airy voice, it just made what he said more threatening. "Off. Something isn't right."

"VIC!" Alexander's voice of fear and rage bounced in echo's around the house and in my head as he shouted telepathically and out loud to all that would hear.

Suddenly, he tuned on his heel and ran out the door, Lusan on his heels. The rest of the house followed. As we saw Lusan and Alexander climb into Lusan's Dodge Charger, everybody turned for cars, birds shifted, ready to do whatever it took to get out weretigeress Omega.

Jumping into the back of Lusan's Dodge Charger as Alexander jumped into the front passenger, Lusan in the driving seat, and Ink in the back with myself, Lusan drove, with the others following.

"Which way, Alexander?" Lusan demanded.

Alexander didn't respond. He just sat in the seat, frozen. Ink smacked his head to get his attention. But he wasn't there. He was frozen.

I saw the golden eagle before it prepared to land in front of Lusan. Preparing myself, Lusan slammed on the breaks, as Ink was thrown into Alexander's seat, he grumbled. Alexander's reflex's had stopped him from smacking his head against the dashboard.

The golden eagle shifted, and I saw a man that I recognised from before. Last time he'd turned up, he'd told me where Victoria and Alexander had been.

Jumping out the car, I walked over to him with Ink following me to the now human-form bird.

But before I could get close, a falcon was in front of me. Then the majority of werebirds were landed, surrounding the male. Some shifted back to human form and knelt, facing the newcomer.

"Charlie?"

I jumped when I heard Alexander's voice. He'd got out the car and was moving over.

"What are you doing here?" Alexander asked the werebird that now had a name.

"I saw the Alpha wolf chasing Vic," Charlie responded, ignoring the bowing birds in both bird and human form. Who was this Charlie? Royalty? It was the only thing I could think of for the birds to react how they were.

Alexander froze at the name of his mate. Cracks and snaps suddenly sounded and Alexander suddenly stood as a tiger. The tiger spoke to us through the family tie. He is not thinking clearly. I will take over to find my mate.

Who is this Charlie? I asked Alexander's cat.

A growl poured out of the tigers mouth, making the werebirds watch him. Friend of my mate's.
