I let out a yell, Riptide out and turning the harpy into gold powder in a fraction of a second. Looking around through red-tinted vision, I saw two things: 1) the harpy was only one of a huge flock. 2) The others were unconscious, but their hands were clenched. I saw that the harpy I had killed was a scout, sent to see if we were as defenseless as we seemed. Unfortunately for the bird, we weren't. I looked around, wincing at my and saw that we were in a rock shaft, and the sides were lined with monster-covered ledges. I had the uncomfortable sensation I was being swallowed. Far, far down below us-maybe several miles-the rock shaft split into two. On the right: blackness. So deep and dark it could be tar, and monsters soaring and fighting in it so it boiled like my mom's homemade blueberry soup. Mmmmmm.
On the left: red-tinted dimness, with a (hopefully rejuvenating) fire river pouring into it. There were a lot less monsters that way. I wanted left.
"Choose, son of the sea. Choooooose." The harpies crooned together.
"I choose left!" I called, hoping it was that easy. There was a rasping, screaming laughter from all around.
"Then proooove it, young hero. PROVE you chose left. Sacrifice someone to Tartarus's grasp, or all will perish!" The harpies said, tossing the sounds one from another, a strange but effective way of speaking. I swallowed. Scarily, I understood what they meant. I could push off of them, and they would fall into the left. I, however, would fall into the right, into 'Tartarus's grasp.' I rubbed my ring, which had magically appeared on my finger. I loved Annabeth, and all the others. I would do anything for them. Its just-I wasn't sure if they could survive by themselves. I mean, they were some of the strongest demigods, but still...
"CHOOSE!" The harpies screamed. Angry, I chucked Riptide at them. There was a collective squawk as their numbers were decimated. Close together monsters = target practice. I smirked, then kissed Annabeth gently. Her eyes opened and she looked at me. She immediately understood the problem and grabbed me.
"No. Not without me," she said. I looked at her sadly."I need to," I said quietly. Annabeth swallowed. I reached out and took her left hand in mine, bringing it up. I saw the brand now. Pale white on our skin, it was a simple design. A circle, with a large trident in it for me, and a large owl in it for Annabeth, surrounded by the rest of the sevens godly symbols. As we watched, the small trident in Annabeths grew and interwove with the owl, and the small owl in mine grew and intertwined with mine. I gasped, feeling Annabeth's emotions and thoughts.'
Percy!' I felt Annabeth say in my mind.
'Annabeth!' I thought back, feeling her thoughts churn.
'Hera! She's the goddess of marriage, along with families! The bond was strengthened because we are engaged!' I felt Annabeth's conclusion, and the facts she used to arrive at it. It was amazing, really like I was smarter. I smiled and then took a deep breath.
'Percy. NO.' Annabeth thought to me, feeling my decision. I looked her in the eyes.
"I love you," I said, then pushed her and the rest of the living demigods away from me in an explosion of power.
"I love you too," I heard Annabeth whisper.
"I'll find you! Stay alive, and know that I'll stay alive for you too!" I screamed, and the Harpies twisted into a cyclone around me, closing in for the kill. I pulled out Anaklusmos and started slicing. The harpies swooped and dived away from the deadly metal, but still many couldn't get out of the way in time. Gold dust filled the abyss. I saw the dark fog approaching and raised Riptide determinedly.
'I'll see you again, Annabeth,' I thought to her. 'I swear it on the river Styx.'
The fog, thick as syrup and darker then Nico's eyes, enveloped me and I choked, coughing on the fiery air. Poison. I was breathing pure poison. I would be dead long before I even hit the bottom of the shaft.
A/N Me: DUN DUN DUUUUN! Please vote or comment. The previous chapter hasn't gotten any votes, sooooo.....I'm just going to go with whatever. This is a shorter chapter, but I felt it was a good ending point-
Percy: Good ending point!?!?!? I'M FREAKING FALLING THROUGH MONSTER INFESTED POISON INTO THE PIT OF DOOM!!!!!!! THAT IS NOT A GOOD ENDING POINT!!!
Me: Uhhhhhh.........Cliffhanger. Please tell me of any spelling/grammer/plot errors.
Percy: Cliffhanger? Really?
Me: YES.
Percy: Fine. Not as good as Rick Riordan's one in Mark of Athena, though.
Me: Yeah....I worried about you.
Annabeth: *knife to my throat* *voice dangerously calm* What did you just say?
Me: I-uh- *swallows* *whispering* I worried about you and Percy. About-the two of you-
Annabeth: Fine. *drops me* *kisses Percy*
Me: *Adoring sigh*
Annabeth: *Punches me*
