That awkward moment after sex could have never been more... Awkward.
I lay there in the water, and he was under me. JR was asleep, breathing soundly in tune with the aftermath of our love making. By now, the bubbles have disappeared and melted into our skin.
I looked around the cadence of the room, of the air around us. The sun just set, as I saw the sky turn a beautiful pearly peach and the stars started to number. JR started to stir, and he finally yawned and stretched, opening his eyes. Then he smirked.
"I thought it was all a dream," he smiled.
I shook my head. "No."
His fingers explored my small waist and he bit his lip.
"How do you not get pruny?" he asked.
I smiled. "I don't know. I guess my body's just like that... I was a swimmer and water polo player back in high school, so I guess my body's just used to it, the water."
"You were a swimmer?" He asked. "Wow, no wonder."
"No wonder about what?"
"You're amazing in water," JR replied breathlessly, his voice getting boyish. "You're so graceful. And you're tan too."
I didn't mention to him that I was tan because of my Pacific Islander roots and that when I swam in Alaska there was no sun, but I just remained silent and got up.
"Where are you going?" he asked, gently holding my wrist.
"We can't stay like this forever," I grimaced.
"Oh, God, can we please?"
"No ahaha. Come on, JR. We gotta get dressed."
I helped him out and he dried me up. His hands roamed my body and he inhaled through his teeth.
"You're so cute," he murmured.
I remember back in high school, my friends Paige and Marilyn and I made this thing called Hot or Not, but only to make fun of the stupid clichés of boys calling you hot without even knowing your name.
"Thank you," I replied softly.
JR smiled and smoothed over my perfectly shaved legs (that's another thing: thank GOD I decided to shave today, my legs, my pits, you get it...). Then he playfully slapped the back of my thigh. I helped him put back on his nice blue dress shirt and chose a matching blue dress I happened to have in my luggage to wear.
"Ready for dinner?" I asked him as I came out of the bathroom. He was waiting for me on the couch, watching the Olympic coverage in Russian.
"God, you're beautiful."
I blushed awkwardly. "Well, come on then."
...♡
We had dinner at some nice restaurant outside of Sochi. After that, we went back to my hotel room and we just lay with each other in bed. The latest edition of People Magazine came out, and the stories were just horrible. They were all about me and Apolo. At least they weren't about damaging JR. He slept with his head on my small chest. I didn't sleep. Even when I was a teenager, I had insomnia issues. He had to wake up at 2 though to get back to the Olympic Village. He had another race to prepare for.
When I woke up later on in the morning, it was a different story. I awakened with a resounding round of "we hate you" texts blowing up my Samsung s4. I recognized them as people from US Weekly. I never met any of them, but 26 year old Kira keeps an organized profile on her phone.
"Jesus Christ," I said in horror as I started to dress up to get to the Iceberg Skating Palace.
I gotta talk to that one person I can trust in this business. I gotta talk to Gretchen.
