Let Her Go

I see you with her,
I see you kiss her.
I see you with a smile,
But I also haven't seen you,
This upset in a while.
You say that you're happy,
You say that you're fine,
I tell you, "it'll be alright",
And whisper, "If you were mine."
When you're with her,
I see a glimmer in your eye,
Yet no one knows if you're happy,
Or about to cry.
You say she's your world,
You say that she's the perfect girl,
And if that's true,
Then why is your love in a downward spiral.
Now listen,
I would never dare,
To look you in the eye,
And tell you all that is wrong,
And all that is passing you by.
But in this poem,
Where nobody knows,
I will tell you what really goes,
On inside my mind,
And perhaps I won't be too kind.
Because although I care,
Here I don't have to stare,
Across the room,
At the two of you,
Watching her cling to your arm,
Watching her do all the harm.
Dear I will not say that you are perfect,
Because no one ever is,
Yet I will tell you that she doesn't deserve,
To say "I'm his".
Perhaps one day,
You will say,
"I'm done with all of the pain"
And,
"I'm done with all of the shame"
You will look into her eyes,
Yet no longer be the one who cries.
Even if I'm not the right one,
At least you'll be done,
With all of the pain that she has caused you,
And as you walk away from her,
Even if you walk right past me,
You'll be sure,
That this was right,
And in the background,
You'll have a group that'll be clapping,
And as you walk right by me,
I'll be glad to see,
That you're finally happy.
