-Chapter 33-

Sang Sorenson's POV:

"Coast is clear, beautiful." Matthew paused, pulling his cellphone out from his pocket. He glanced over a text, then looked at me. "Is your name Sang?"

I hesitated, but he must have seen the answer in my eyes.

"You should have told me you were Academy. Now I have a good reason to keep you safe." He smiled slightly.

"I'm not Academy."

Matthew reread the text. "Ah, you've just been accepted as Academy family."

"What?" Is that what Dr. Green and Mr. Blackbourne had meant?

Matthew flipped his phone around revealing a picture of yours truly. "That's you, isn't it? The Blackbourne team is looking for you. Lucky them I already found you."

"So they do missions like you for the Academy?" I asked as he sent off a text before glancing over to me. The way the deep auburn in his eyes flashed made my stomach flip.

"You didn't know?"

"We're friends... They must think...I'm a mission...because of my mother." My heart hurt.

"That or they are trying to...well, have an arrangement with you like the Toma team has." Matthew sent off another text before turning the device completely off. "You're Academy material, you know. I could see you as quite the solo bird, if given the chance."

I made a face. "I hate birds. Can I be a wolf instead?"

Matthew raised a brow, but didn't answer as he took his gun from its holster and dipped into the hall.

I followed him like a shadow, clicking my safety off and holding the barrel of the gun in the air.

He looked back suddenly, practically knocking me over, and swore softly. "You're so quiet I thought I lost you," he muttered.

The hallway was empty aside from us, and Matthew knew his way around well. He kept us just out of the reach of the men who patrolled the area.

We would hear voices and Matthew would dip down a maze of hallways before the men even knew we were there.

"We are almost to the exit," said Matthew, peeking around a corner. "Fuck."

"What?"

"Four lackeys are positioned at the south exit. We could go to the east exit but that lets out near the road and we don't want to be picked up."

"Where exactly are we right now?

"It's marketed as a resort for exclusive members, though the owner has chosen to remain anonymous and collects all currency under a false identity who then cashes the money which is where we lose the trail." Matthew hesitated at the hall. "Let's try the other exit--fuck."

As we turned, three men dressed in black came around the corner. "You there," one of them called. "Are you new?"

Matthew smiled. "Yeah, I was told to take this girl back to her room, but I got turned around. Unbelievable how many halls there are in this place."

The first man who spoke, a dark haired guy with mutton chops tilted his head to the side. "Isn't that the girl who went missing?"

"Sure is. Found her hiding in a storage closet."

What the hell? Matthew was outing me now?

"Wait..." Mutton chop man narrowed his eyes at Matthew. "Why aren't you in uniform?"
