JO'S POV
"Do you have your suitcase?" Alex asked me.

"Yes."

"Alright then, let's go." We were on our way to the airport. We were going to go see an old friend of Alex's in California, but mostly because she's an OB/GYN, and she used to work at the hospital. Let's face it, it wouldn't hurt to get another ultrasound. I am 2 months along.

After hours of going through airport security, we were finally on the plane. I was trying to sleep when I heard a baby crying in the seat behind me.

Alex leaned over and whispered, "That's gonna be that soon," while pointing at my belly and the baby in the back. Was he trying to make me feel less anxious? Because if he was, it wasn't working.

When we landed, I was starving. It couldn't wait. These pregnancy cravings are no joke. I didn't want to say anything because I thought it would annoy Alex, but I couldn't stand it.

"Alex?"

"Yeah?"

"Can we get something to eat?"

"Sure, where do you wanna go?"

"Well, I just saw a Sbarro's up there next to the gift shop." I was really excited that it was in the airport. One more seated transportation and my coccyx (tailbone) will erupt.

After eating, we were on a long drive to Oceanside. I laid down in the back seat to avoid injuring my tailbone. Before I was in a deep sleep, I heard Alex play TLC's greatest hits album. He knew I loved TLC. He is an amazing boyfriend.

Within the lyrics, I started drifting in and out of sleep.

*What about your friends? Will they...*

I wonder what the baby will look like.

*So I creep, yeah, just keep it on the down low*

Will it be a boy or a girl?

*I don't want no scrubs, a scrubs is a guy that can't get no love from me*

Will it like me?

*Don't go chasing waterfalls...*

Will I be a good mother?

After what seemed like forever, Alex woke me up and I saw that we were parked outside the Oceanside practice that his friend works at. We walked in and I sat in the waiting room while Alex went up to the receptionist.

"Alex Karev."

"You aren't listed here for an appointment," she said.

"Yeah, just tell Addison that it's me."

"Ok," she picked up the phone, "Dr. Montgomery, we have an Alex Karev here to see you. He also brought a patient. Ok. Alright." She hung up and said, "She'll be out in a minute."

After that call, Dr. Montgomery showed up out of nowhere. And it was quick, too.

"Hey, Karev, how are you?"

"I'm good. I'm a pediatric fellow at the hospital."

"Oh, that's good. Marlene said you had a patient for me?"

"Oh yeah, this is my girlfriend, Jo." Addison's face went blank.

"Wow, um..... congratulations." This kinda made me feel uncomfortable. Was she his ex? Is she not over him?

"Thanks. How have you been?"

"Good, I got married and I have a son." This is good, she's not a threat.

"Hi, Addison. We would've gone at our hospital, but there's no OB/GYN there."

"What happened to that one that Alex was dating?"

"Oh, she took his job. In Nambosi."

"Wow."

"And the recent OB/GYN suffered a brain injury."

"Oh, ok. How long are you?"

"About 8 weeks."

"Yeah, it could be time for your checkup."

A few moments later, I was sitting on the chair in a gown with my feet in the stirrups.

"So how are things over there?" she asked me while getting the materials for the ultrasound.

"They're good. Callie and Arizona got back together, Meredith and Derek just had another baby, and April had her wedding, but Jackson objected, but she chose Matthew and Jackson wouldn't stop stalking her, so she went to court and he got moved to another hospital."

"I meant in the exam chair. Are you comfortable?"

"Oh, yeah, thanks. And sorry."

"No, it's fine. Tell Derek and Meredith I said congrats."

"Oh, we can't." Alex said.

"Why not?"

"We haven't told anyone she's pregnant yet. They think we're out on a sick day."

"So no one knows?"

"One person, or we think so, anyways." Alex replied. I was keeping my mouth shut after the accidental rambling.

"Who?"

"Miranda. She walked in on us doing an ultrasound. We did it to make sure Jo was pregnant. Can't really trust pregnancy tests that much these days."

"Oh, ok. Alright, Jo, I'm about to put the gel on your stomach and it might be a little cold."

"Ok." She was right. But this time, it was a little warmer than the gel at Grey+Sloan. Probably because California is extremely warm. I was burning up getting off the plane, because, well, that's February in Seattle for you. To survive, you have to layer up.

"There's the head and..." she moved the wand a little more, "there's the body." It was so cute. The baby looked like it was waving at us.

"Do you want a printed picture?" Addison asked.

"Yes, please," Alex and I said together.

"Alright." Addison pressed the "save" button on the monitor and clicked "print." She left the room to get it out of the printer.

"Did you see the baby?" Alex asked.

"Of course I did. We're gonna be parents," I said. Alex kissed me and Addison came back in the room.

"You know, we don't have to keep coming here because there isn't an OB/GYN. I can do it at the hospital. I shadowed you for 2 months." Alex said.

"Ok, but wouldn't that just add more money on your bill?" Addison asked.

"Oh, I'm a resident at the hospital. It's covered." I said.

"Alright, well, your baby looks good. Healthy for 8 weeks, so that's a good sign. Come back when your 32-34 weeks, ok?"

"But that's 8 months, I won't be able to fly."

"Yeah, that's right. I'll come over to the hospital."

"Wait, but I told you I could do it." Alex said.

"Yeah, but you only aided me on 24-25 week patients. Now, Jo, I will prescribe you some prenatal vitamins that you can pick up at the Walgreens down the street, okay? You can even get them in Seattle."

"Alright. Thank you."

"You're welcome."

After the appointment, Alex and I got back in the car. "We're having a baby," he said.

"We're having a baby," I said.
