Chapter 5
“Where do you think you’re going?” Master Bullavin called out to Echo and Rain Fox as they ran behind Ron Weasley. Ron was running to exit the offices.
“I’m going to find out what’s going on!” Echo yelled back to Master Bullavin.
“Not you,” he yelled, “Her! Where do you think you’re going?”
Echo and Rain Fox looked behind them and stopped. Star was right on their heels, following them out.
“I’m going with them!” she yelled back to Master Bullavin.
“On your unmarked grave!” the Iron Bull bellowed, “Get back here this instant!”
“Are you mental?” Rain Fox asked Star, “You can’t go with us!”
“We don’t have time to argue!” Star replied to Rain Fox, “People might be hurt! Let’s go!”
Rain Fox looked to Echo for a suggestion.
“Don’t look at me,” Echo said with a shrug. “If she wants to come, it’s her funeral. We ain’t got time to argue, that’s for sure.”
Rain Fox, Echo, and Star ran out of the Aurors Offices, leaving the others behind (and Master Bullavin yelling loudly his displeasure). They followed behind Ron Weasley’s path. The halls of the Ministry were being filled with panicked or curious wizards and witches, most wondering what the commotion was all about.
“Did you hear that?” the girls overheard someone say.
“What was that loud noise?” another said. “Did those idiots in the Goblin Liaison Office pull another prank? Last time it was dung bombs!”
The girls ran in a line: Rain Fox first, followed closely by Echo then by Star. Star held back on her speed, not wanting to hurt anyone accidently by zipping past them (or through them).
“Whatever you do,” Rain Fox yelled at Echo as they ran, “Do not turn into a tiger right now!”
“Why not?” Echo yelled back.
“Because we don’t want to make more of a panic than there already is!” Rain Fox answered. “Let’s just get to the elevator!”
“That looks like it isn’t going to be easy!” Star yelled out.
She was right. The large open atrium where the elevators were located was bustling with people running everywhere. The guards and the Magical Law Enforcement wizards were heading towards the elevator. Some people were standing trying to get a better look at what had happened. Most people were scrambling for an exit. Another large boom erupted from the atrium. Screams and shouts ripped through the atrium as the elevator blew up.
The girls were nearly slammed by a wall of people in official robes desperate to get to an exit. The people were running in all directions, a wall of chaos amassed and running towards the girls.
“Hold on!” Rain Fox shouted. She reached out and grabbed Echo and Star, pulling them into a broom closet in the wall.
“What are you doing?” Echo asked.
“I need to tell you both something straight away!” Rain Fox shouted as the din of panic and tumult grew outside the broom closet. “I saw Gorn in the Hall of Mirrors when we were back in the office!”
Echo and Star looked at one another before turning back to Rain Fox.
“Gorn?” Echo asked.
