Chapter 30

Echo and Teller made their way back to the shore near the Fwooper’s Folly, got the broom they had hidden out of the bushes, and flew back to the ship. It took them a minute to locate it since Sky Heart still had the Invisibility Booster on, but she turned it off temporarily for them then turned it back on when they landed.

“What did you see?” Sky Heart asked.

“This is the place, for sure,” Echo said, “Those Ember guys are here. Plus there’s a lot of Inferi here, too. Lots of Inferi.”

“Inferi?” Sky Heart asked, “As in creepy, undead, zombie bodies walking around in a ghastly fashion?”

     “Yup,” Teller said.

Sky Heart sighed and looked at them. “Well, what do we do now?”

“They’re herding the Inferi onto big boats in the harbor,” Echo said, “It looks like they’re getting ready to invade somewhere.”

Teller paced around the deck and scratched his head. “What should we do next?”

“If they’re herding Inferi onto boats,” Sky Heart suggested, “Then we should sink the boats! They can’t invade somewhere if they don’t have boats to bring them on!”

Echo looked at Teller with an agreeable look. “That’s actually a good plan.”

“You act as though I don’t have good ideas!” Sky Heart said. “I have plenty of good ideas, you know!”

“I never said you didn’t have good ideas,” Echo replied, “That was just a dang good idea, Sky.”

     “Thank you!” Sky Heart smiled.

“Okay, sink the boats,” Teller said, “What about the Inferi and the Embers in the town and along that temple?”

     “What temple?” Sky Heart asked.

“There’s a temple and a tower with a light on it in the center of the island town,” Echo said, “That’s where the Inferi are coming from.”

“We need a distraction in the town, then,” Teller suggested. “Think you can cause a distraction in the town?”

“Heck yes, I can,” Echo smirked. “Me and Ceddy can keep them distracted while you guys sink the boats. Hey, where is Ceddy?”

The others looked around the boat quickly. Dev was nowhere to be found.

“Where is he?” Sky Heart asked. “He was here a few minutes ago.”

“Is he below deck?” Echo asked.

“There he is!” Sky Heart shouted. She pointed to the sky and saw Dev on a broom flying back towards the place the boat rested. Sky Heart rushed over to the Invisibility Booster switch and turned it off quickly, then back on when Dev landed.”

“Where did you go?” Echo asked.

“I flew around a little to check the place out,” Dev answered.

“I thought we told you to stay put,” Teller grumbled. “You could have compromised our position.”

“Sorry,” Dev said, “I didn’t mean to-“

“Forget it,” Teller stopped him, “We have a plan. Listen up.”

The group discussed the plan and made the necessary preparations. Teller gave the two extra crimson cloaks to Sky Heart and Dev. They were ill-fitting but worked as clever disguises.
