Chapter 4: The Last Will and Testament of Shade

Chapter 4

     Star Saoirse was the last person to see Shade le Fay in the land of the living. She had cried as he walked into the Veiled Archway in the Death Chamber with the Pendant of Life glowing on his chest, his wand left behind in her hands. She felt stunted and lost when she heard a cruel voice speak from behind her hurl insults about Shade. She lunged at the voice, the evil voice of the diabolical Easter. She ran at him with fury unrivaled and unmatched for a person her age. Her anger seethed from her cold eyes and she swiped at him. Before Easter Apparated away Star managed to entangle his Pendant, the Pendant of Light, in her strong fingers. She didn’t realize until after he was gone that she had taken it from him. She had been around Shade, Rain Fox, Sherman, and Echo long enough to learn some important things about the Pendants. She knew that Pendant Bearers were rare. She knew that the Pendants gave their Bearers extraordinary powers. She knew that Rain Fox was given hers when she was young. She was there when Echo was given hers by the dying boy Starling Govanjek. She was present when Rain Fox took the Pendant of Life from Leech de Bauch, and was present when Rain Fox later put the Pendant of Life on Shade. She knew that Easter had the Pendant of Light for as far back as any account could recall. She knew that only two kinds of people could take a Pendant from a Bearer: Another Pendant Bearer or a person that the Pendant deemed worthy to bear it.

     She tore the Pendant of Light from Easter. She was not a Pendant Bearer beforehand. That meant that the Pendant of Light found her worthy of being its new master.

     Star Saoirse was the rightful master of the Pendant of Light.

     Since the day when she had put it on her life had changed drastically. She didn’t tell anyone about it at first. Then she revealed it to Master Bullavin. After that Master Bullavin encouraged her to reveal it to Echo, Rain Fox, Jinx, and Dev. Outside of them no one had any knowledge of her possession of the Pendant of Light. She wanted to tell some of her friends but didn’t know how. Her friends were there for her when she was cursed with the Vampire’s curse. Rain Fox and Shade were responsible for saving her life and restoring her soul. A typical vampire has no soul, but thanks to the power of the Pendant of Death, Rain Fox was able to steer Star’s soul inside of a Nebula Orb for safe keeping. The Nebula Orb contained her soul and kept it safe so that she could remain both alive and also a vampire at the same time. But the Pendant of Light was another matter: People were dying over the Pendants. She didn’t want to risk putting her best friends in danger by revealing it to them and thus they would have knowledge of its whereabouts. Bria Brightwater had become one of her closest friends. Bria lived in Cornwall and had become her guide at Hogwarts. She was smart, brave, and tended to sing randomly throughout the day. Her friend Dan Titan was a big jock of a boy; he was stocky, a great Quidditch player, and brash. He often rushed after his friends without thinking of the consequences that may occur. He was also loyal beyond his own understanding, which Star admired. Her closest friend was Samantha Meadows (everyone called her Sam). Sam was also in Bishop Ward at Salem with her, then they ended up together at Hogwarts, both ending up in Gryffindor. Sam was a free spirit; she didn’t care what people thought of her backwater, country-style kind of talking and living. She barely wore shoes and always had a cap on. She was brilliant and fearless. Star was close to them, and often leaned on them for support. Her other close friends were just as loyal. Ignatia Jones was one of them; she was cursed at an early age as a werewolf. She understood Star on a level that made Star feel comfortable about being a vampire. She and Star had faced unspeakable evils and dangers together, along with their fellow friends in their Quintet. Spirit Sandpiper was a fiercely loyal tribal girl who was strong and often fancied adventures. Luminara Joywell was a curious girl whose brilliant mind and deductive reasoning helped them out of trouble often. Nymphara Dye was funny, pretty, and a very prodigious young witch. She was Iggy’s best friend and was very protective over her friends. Star Saoirse loved her friends; if there was anything about her that was the truest, it was that Star would die for her friends (technically she did once already). She had attacked Easter after Shade entered the Realm Beyond but she feared him still. Even without the Pendant of Light he was still a dangerous foe. She understood that now more than ever. She knew that he would be desperate to get his Pendant back.
