A/N GUYS JUST FOR MY ENTERTAINMENT, IT WOULD BE COOL IF YOU TRIED THE RIDDLES YOURSELF BEFORE THE ANSWER COMES UP IN THE TEXT. SEE HOW MANY YOU CAN DO? NOOOO CHEATING!
You and Ed had been excited for Easter for weeks. Not just because of the seemingly endless supply of chocolate you will receive, but because this year it lands on your one year anniversary. Plus, what better way to spend it than cuddled up on the sofa, eating chocolate and most likely watching Y/F/TV/S?
Last night Ed disappeared for hours and you went to bed cold, alone and mad at him. You assumed it was just for work and decided that today was a day that you shouldn't be mad at him; you weren't going to argue on your anniversary.
Seeing the streaks of light illuminating your room through the crevices in the blinds, you rolled over and reached out your arm, ready to hug Ed tightly and thank him for an amazing year, only to find you were still alone. Your happy mood crashed instantly and you groaned, covering your head with the sheets. Where the hell is he? Getting up to see if he was in the apartment, you slipped your feet into some fluffy socks and wrapped the beautiful, satin and floral dressing gown Ed had got you last week, for no reason at all, around your shoulders. Picking up your glasses from the side, (A/N if you don't wear glasses, just pretend it's something you use every morning when you wake up.) your eyes caught a glimpse of a (Y/F/C) piece of paper on your bedside table. You placed your glasses upon your face and lifted the paper up into the natural light of the sun. It was folded into 4 and when opening it you immediately recognised the fancy handwriting as Ed's.
When you come to me you are dirty, when you leave me you are clean. What am I?
You chuckled realising what Ed had been doing last night and why he wasn't here this morning. You read the riddle over again and figured it out almost instantly. When you met Ed, his fascination with riddles always confused you, probably because he understood them all. But now his 'outside of the box' way of thinking had somewhat rubbed off on you, and you enjoyed riddles almost as much as he did.
The shower. When you get there you're normally in need of being washed. You walk over to your en-suite bathroom and see a little, colourfully wrapped chocolate egg in a big basket inside the bath. Inside the basket was another note.
Metal or bone I may be, many teeth I have and always bared, yet my bite harms no one and ladies delight in my touch. What am I?
Metal or bone? Ladies delight? You weren't as good at riddles as Ed was yet and so you showered quickly whilst thinking it over. Getting out of the bath, you wrapped your towel around your chest and brushed through your smooth, silky hair. Teeth! That's it.
A comb. It doesn't hurt anyone when used and Ed uses it every morning before work. You knew exactly where to look next. Taking the basket with you, in your bedroom you opened the draw that Ed kept, what he called, his 'manly products' in. Right on top, quite conveniently placed, was Ed's comb next to another Easter egg and on it, another note.
I am strong enough to smash ships, but I fear the Sun. What am I?
Placing the egg into the basket, you thought hard about what could possibly be in your apartment that could smash ships or fears the sun. You dried and dressed during your thinking process and thought about what the sun does.
"The sun let's off light, but I'm sure we don't have a vampire in the apartment," you mumbled.
Heat! Again, one simple word jogged your memory. Ice melts in the heat. It was strong enough to assist in sinking the Titanic but the sun turns it into a liquid. But where do we have in the apartment? The freezer!
"That makes more sense," you chuckled to yourself.
Walking into the kitchen you opened the freezer door, shivering at the contact of the cold hitting your freshly washed skin. Inside was a little note on top of some of Ed's amazing snacks and beside yet another Easter egg. When you first met Ed, he made you breakfast lollies, which were basically Frozen yogurt, strawberries, blueberries and oats. They quickly became your favourite breakfast snack and you grabbed one as quick as possible whilst placing the third egg in your filling basket. You read the next one whilst enjoying the healthy goodness of Ed's expert chef abilities. The next note read:
What force and strength cannot get through, I with a gentle touch can do. And many in the street would stand, were I not a friend at hand. What am I?
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. A door? No. The key to get into the door. He wants you to get your keys? Why?
You walked over to the pegs you have by your front door that your keys hung on and found yet another note and an egg on the floor in the corner. You laughed, he clearly didn't know where to put that one.
A dagger thrust at my own heart, Dictates the way I'm swayed. Left I stand, and right I yield, To the twisting of the blade. What am I?
'It's so violent,' you thought. What does it mean left I stand, right I yield? Then it clicked. The front door. It opens if you turn the key the right way. How were you supposed to find them after opening the front door. Taking the basket with you, you chucked on some Converse and a thin rain coat before unlocking the door. On the step in front of you was another egg, with the note on it this time.
I wear you down, yet you'll mourn me once I fly. You can kill me, but I will never die. What am I?
This one made you smile. He knew you'd know this one. This was the first riddle Ed had ever said to you. The city clock. That's where you met. Ed asked you this riddle and honestly you had no clue what the answer was. He explained it to you and you laughed over how simple it sounded afterwards. You ran outside in excitement, swinging the basket along beside you like a little girl. Why were you going to the clock?
Walking down the road, you took the all too familiar route to the centre of Gotham city, patiently considering the option of the purpose to this hunt. You hadn't realised how long you had been thinking or walking until you saw the giant clock in the middle of the park across the road. But no one was in sight. Strolling over to the giant, time teller, you found a note on it in bright red paper. This wasn't the end?
What three words are said too much, yet not enough?
You smiled as you held the note in your hands.
"I love you," you heard from behind you.
Spinning around, you saw Ed standing a few feet away from you holding roses and a big final Easter egg.
"I hope you have room in the basket," he smiled.
You dropped the basket to the floor and ran forward. He scooped you up in his arms and you squeezed him so tight he struggled to breathe.
"I love you too Ed," you whispered.
He kissed your forehead, moving stray strands of hair from your face, and passed you the roses.
"Happy one year anniversary, my little Easter bunny," he joked.
"And to think, I only bought you a watch."
