Jasmine's Dad's POV

FLASHBACK

"Daddy, if you kick him out then you kick me out!" Mary screamed with every ounce of volume she could work up, her father towered over us and he chuckled. "Please! Go! I let this idiot into my house, and you lied to me! Why should I keep both of you!" He screamed back. "Mary. You're over reacting," my wife's mother softened, placing her hand on her husbands shoulder she spoke again, "And so are you. Cody's a nice kid and Mary was just trying to protect him. We can talk this out."

"Shut up, bitch!" He screamed suddenly furious with anger. Veins popped out from his neck. "Don't talk to her like that!" Mary argued back as if she was 10 feet tall. "And what are you gonna do..? You're just as stupid as her. You're just a fucking mistake and you're acting just like one t-" before Mary's dad could even finish that sentence, she slammed a glass vase on his head, and glass shattered and flew everywhere. I gasped, taking a step back, not even knowing what to say. Mary grabbed my hand and pulled me up the stairs to her room and her mother followed. "Mary! What are you gonna do? What are you gonna live off of! You're young, you don't even have a highschool diploma! Your just gonna end up trapping! Please baby, give it another chance." Her mother pleaded and Mary ignored her. Frantically packing a suitcase. I just stood their like an idiot. "Momma, this man is gonna kill us, maybe you don't believe me, but when you finally do it'll be to late. Leave him momma, save yourself. I love you." With that Mary grabbed her partially zipped backpack and ran out of the house with her hand in mine. I was breathless.

(END FLASHBACK)

Mary was fearless, she was bold, brave, independent. I knew at any second that girl could leave me and that's why I loved her, she kept me on edge.

Mary's mother died the day Jasmine was born- trying to make it to her birth, Mary's father killed her. She never got to meet Jasmine, and that's why we named her after her.

When Jasmine stormed toward me and my sister in the hospital hallway, all I saw was her mother. From head to toe it was Mary. That crazy look in her eyes, her chocolate skin, her nose. "I know, I lied, I'm sorry. Daddy, I love this boy. He's the first man to ever treat me like a real ass woman and I wasn't about to loose him. I know what I did was wrong and I know it ain't long till you kick him out but just now- "if you kick him out you kick me out. and you ain't ever seeing me again."
