I don't own Percy Jackson and the Olympians even though I wish I did. Thanks for reading!
Percy's POV
BEEEEEP! BEEEEEP! My alarm clock blared. I reached over to press the snooze button, but remembered I had already done that twice. I reluctantly opened my eyes and looked at the time. The clock read 7:45am. Wait! 7:45?! I had to be at school by 8:00! Well that's just great. I was going to be late for the first day of my senior year. Now the clock read 7:46. I figured I better stop complaining and start getting ready.Thankfully I took a shower the night before, so all I had to do was brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, and eat breakfast.
I quickly finished the first two, then pulled on a pair of jeans, a blue t shirt, and my black converse. I grabbed my backpack, which was a typical black jansport, and went to the kitchen.
My mom was waiting for me with a plate of blue pancakes on the table. "Thanks mom! You're the best." I said as I sat down to eat.
I inhaled the pancakes and hugged my mom goodbye. She wished me luck and I left the apartment. Luckily my school, Goode High, was only a block away. My step dad, Paul(who was my English teacher as well), had already left a half an hour ago to prepare for his classes or whatever it is teachers do in the morning.
I arrived at school just before the bell rang. After going to my locker, I went to my first class, which happened to be math.
Ugh. I hate math so much, so of course it was my first class of the new year. Why would I ever have good luck? Maybe the universe doesn't like me or something because I've had pretty rotten luck for as long as I can remember.
I was thinking about this as I sat down in my chair and as the teacher took attendance. Halfway through though, there was a knock on the door, interrupting her. A kid opened the door and that's when my world turned upside down.
In walked a tan girl with blonde princess curls. She looked like your typical California girl, but her eyes made her different. They were startling gray and made the girl look like she was calculating and analyzing everything and everyone in the room. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.
She walked over to the teacher and they had a brief conversation. Then the teacher pointed her over to a seat. I followed her gaze to the desk she was talking to, all the way to the desk next to me.
The new girl nodded and sat down next to me. I felt my face heating up and my heart rate increasing, even though we hadn't spoken two words to each other.
I tried to compose myself, but it didn't work. I was so distracted from the class, I couldn't tell you a single thing we went over. It was probably just rules anyway.
When the bell rang, the new girl pulled out her schedule with a perplexed look on her face. I took that as my opportunity to get to know her.
"Hi. I'm Percy. Do you need some help?" I braced myself for the comment that was sure to come about how I shouldn't be talking to her and that she has a boyfriend. I was definitely not expecting her response.
"Oh hi. I'm Annabeth and yes please. I could really use some help. Do you know where this room is?" She said, pointing to a room on the schedule.
"I do. I actually have that class right now, so I can show you where it is?"
Annabeth let out a breath I didn't know she'd been holding and nodded.
"Yes please. Thank you so much. You're a lifesaver."On the way there, we compared our schedules. It turned out, we had all of our classes together, except for our electives.
The next class was science. The teacher is really laid back and we just watched a movie, giving Annabeth and I time to get to know each other.
I found out that she wanted to be an architect, she loved to read, she moved her from California with her family, and more.
I told her about how I'm the swim team captain for our school, what my favorite bands are, and that I like to ride a skateboard for fun. Also that I'd lived in manhattan my whole life.
Next we had Greek Mythology. We could either take that or geography, since our school requires us to take an educational elective, and Greek Mythology sounded much more interesting.
As Annabeth and I kept talking, I realized how cool she was. It made me like her even more. She was really fun to be around. I didn't feel like I had to try as hard as I did with other girls.
At lunch, I introduced her to some of my other friends.
We sat down and I said, "Annabeth, this is Jason, Nico, Leo, Piper, and Rachel. Everyone, meet Annabeth. She's new to our school."
They all said Hi.
I pulled out a chair for Annabeth next to me, earning a knowing look from Jason and an annoyed look from Rachel.Everyone seemed to get along well, except for Rachel and Annabeth. Rachel kept giving her dirty looks when she thought I couldn't see. I wondered what was up with her. She never acted like that.
After lunch, Annabeth pulled me aside.
"You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend."
"I don't."
"Then why was Rachel glaring at me throughout the whole lunch period?"
"I don't know. She's never acted like that before."
Annabeth just rolled her eyes. "Percy, Rachel likes you."
"What?!" I mean I know I'm not the best with girls, but you'd think after 3 years, she would have said something.
"You should ask her out. She's pretty and obviously into you." I thought I heard a bit of disappointment in her voice.Okay. I was sorta hoping, but I probably imagined it anyways.
"No thanks. I mean she's a great friend and all, but I don't like her that way."
Annabeth just nodded.
Plus, I think I like someone else. I thought to myself.Annabeth and I kept talking throughout the day. It turned out, she lived in the apartment across from mine, so I offered to walk her home.
On the way, we stopped to get some ice cream. I got cake batter and Annabeth got mint chocolate chip.
When we got up to our floor, I asked Annabeth if she wanted to come inside. She said yes. I introduced her to my mom and brought her to my room. I closed the door out of habit, and then felt my face heat up. Annabeth just laughed. It was the most amazing laugh I'd ever heard.
To calm my nerves I decided to play some music.
"What's your favorite band?" I asked.
"Hmm... probably imagine dragons. You?"
"No way, same!"
She just laughed her beautiful laugh again, then said, "What's your favorite album?"
"Night visions." I replied.
"Yeah. Me too."I connected my phone to my speaker and set the album on shuffle. Loud enough to enjoy it, but not to the point where I couldn't hear Annabeth.
We kept talking until my mom knocked on the door. I opened it after pausing the music.
"Dinner is ready. Ask Annabeth if she wants to stay. It's lasagna."
"Okay."
My mom left and I turned back to Annabeth.
"Do you want to stay for dinner? We're having lasagna. I promise it's really good."
"Sure. Let me just text my mom."A few minutes later we sat down at the table with my mom and Paul. My mom asked us all how our day was and Annabeth and I said 'good' at the same time.
After dinner, Annabeth went home and my mom called me over.
"Percy?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you like her?"
"Of course. She's nice."
"No, I mean do you like her that way?"
I was sure I turned as red as a fire truck. I stammered, "I-I"
My mom just laughed. "You're seventeen, Percy, and you've never had a girlfriend. Ask her out. I'm sure she'd say yes."
I just buried my head in my hands and walked back to my room, thoroughly and utterly embarrassed.
