"Hey." Luca whispers. Him and I are sitting, staring at the same book. He turns the pages slowly, brushing upon my fingers. The couch may be big but he sits next to me, so close that if i were to face him I'd hear his heartbeat.
"I thought we were reading." However his hand on my thigh was conveying a different motive. He traced patterns on it. His fingers were soft, reminding me of a child, instinctively discovering new phenomenas. He must know I'm weak. Weak to these things.
I might've been a pretty girl, but pretty rich girls don't just settle for anyone. School was a bore. Boys at school were a bore. Mother never let me bring my school friends over because she believed we were simply a different status to them all.
However classical high school films educated me of all the drama and excitement I could never have because I began being homeschooled after finishing middle school. Kissing in the rain, Prom, the jocks, the geeks, the populars. To name it all seemed like one bug fairytale that Mother could tell me before bedtime. She used to say, You'd definitely be a popular girl Jo, you'd have all the jocks gawking at you.
Mother was a rare creature. Raised in a tough neighbourhood, and constantly keen to raise a polite Christian family, that had the best sweets to give out during Halloween, the best Christmas decorations and be the most punctual to church on Sundays. Behind the curtains of our perfect family home Mother had to be strict with me. And I understood why, you can't just make a diamond out of rock. It almost seemed that there was never a moment of patience, or calmness in Mothers daily regime.
