Erik’s P.O.V.
“No.”
“No?”
“Isa, I don’t want to go out there.” I said, sitting at the piano. Isa folded her arms and glared at me.
“Why not?” she asked, crossing the room until she was standing in front of me.
“I’ve never been in a crowd.” I said shuddering at the thought. “The last time I was in a crowd that wasn’t in the opera house, I was in a cage and everyone was laughing at me.”
Isa sighed and sat next to me, “I want to show you Lucca!” she said. “It’s really a beautiful city, and it’s considerably smaller than other cities. Please?”
I looked at her and sighed. “I’ll trust you.” I said finally. After I said it, I couldn’t believe it. I’d never trusted anyone, let alone said that I did. I never even trusted Christine, especially after she took my mask. Amazingly I still trusted Isa after she took the mask, but Isa was the exception I supposed. So I allowed her to take my hand and I followed her to the cobblestone streets.
The sunlight was shining down, warming my skin and casting a shadow on the right side of my face. It was still early, but there were a few people out on the street. My stomach flipped when the first person looked at me, but their gaze was immediately moved to Isa! They didn’t even look at me for more than five seconds before talking to Isa! The first people that we met on the street was an elderly couple, who were Isa’s neighbors.
“Buon giorno, Signora Moretti! How are you Signore Moretti?” Isa said cheerfully as we were passing.
“Isa! How are you?” Signora Moretti asked, kissing her on both cheeks.
“I’m very well, how are you?” she replied, smiling.
“Very good, it’s a lovely day!” The Signora smiled. Her eyes fell on me and she asked “Isa, who is this young man?”
“This is my friend from France, Signore Erik!” Isa answered, turning to give me a reassuring smile. She could tell that the attention was making me uncomfortable. “I’m showing him around Lucca! We are on our way to Lucia’s bakery right now!”
“That will be fun! Lucia’s business has really increased since you left, I think you’ll be surprised with the changes!” Signore Moretti said. I was glad that neither one of them asked any more questions as Isa waved ciao and we continued to walk.
“So where are you taking me?” I asked Isa as we continued to walk.
