The next morning I awoke to find Isa standing at the door. “Yes?” I asked raising an eyebrow.

“I was… umm… sorry.” She said, a blush slowly making its way to her cheeks.

“My I ask what you were doing?” I asked.

“I… I was making sure you were really here… that I didn’t just dream you back with me.” She said softly.

I could feel my expression go soft as I looked at her and smiled. Getting up, I walked over to her and pulled her close to me. Isa looked up at me with her soft blue eyes. She was most likely confused as to what brought on this sudden… affection I suppose. But she didn’t protest as I hugged her, she even hugged me back! My heart raced as we stood there; I don’t know how long we stood there, but neither one of us made to move away from the other. She stepped out of my grasp after a while, leaving me feeling cold for whatever reason.

It was undeniable now; I was in love with Isa. Even though I didn’t deserve her love, or even her friendship! But my heart had turned its attention to her and now there was no going back. I wanted her for my own, no matter how selfish that was. I wanted her love; I wanted to protect her and to spend the rest of my life with her. But I knew that she might never feel the same for me, but I had more of a chance with Isa than I ever could have had with Christine! Christine… I had barely thought about her the whole time I had been with Isa. There was no longer a pain in my heart at the thought of the brunette singer; I was finally free of her. And now my thoughts turned back to Isa and what I had to do. “I have some business to attend to.” I said.

Isa looked at me suspiciously and said “Alright… but be sure to be home soon!”

It was with that last statement that I realized that she was worried that I wouldn’t come home. It was a strange feeling, having someone worry about whether I came back or not and it brought a feeling to my heart that was surprisingly… warm. With that thought on my mind I walked next door and knocked on the door. Isa’s grandmother answered the door and said “Erik, come in!”

“I was just wondering if Sophia was home.” I said.

“Well where else would I be?” I hear Sophia say. She walked to the front door and said “How can I help you?”

“I need to talk to you.” I said. Isa’s grandmother disappeared back somewhere in the house as I added “Privately.”

“I know just the place.” Sophia said.

We walked down to a lake and sat on the stone bench that overlooked the lakeshore. “I need your help.” I said, not sure how to begin.

“I don’t think I should help you, you left Isa at the ball!” Sophia said accusingly.
