Chapter 12

Garret laid on his side playing with his knife, boredom eating at his mind. He twirled the blade and carved letters and doodles in the ground. He listened to the groaning and moaning of the cave wondering when they were going to get out of here.

The radio box stood useless beside him. There had been no messages come through. Not even a chirp. He wondered if it even worked. What were they really doing here? A question that had bothered him since the beginning.

He had just begun to doze off when suddenly static shot through the radio echoing down the mysterious corridors. "Alpha 3 this is Alpha 1: Come in I repeat: come in." The voice said. He sat up and clutched the wireless walky talky.

"Alpha 1 this is alpha 3. Over." He clicked the button.

"What is your position? Over."

"We're in a death hole sir." Garret rested his head on his hand.

"Is your team alive? Over."

"If they are not back by 06:00 hours tonight then I will presume them dead. Those were my orders."

"Who is this?" The voice asked.

"This is Garret Ranger sir. Over."

"There is- er- someone here who needs to speak to you." The line went quiet then "the mans" voice rang out.

"Garret how are you?"

"Fine sir."

"Are you separated from your team?"

"Yes sir."

"Good." The mans voice went dark. "I want you to listen very carefully. If they make it back with the information from that camera I want you to get rid of it. No traces. No photos. Nothing."

"What about the photographer."

"I doubt she is alive."

"If she is sir?"

"Then put that training to use and dispose of her."

"What about the others?"

"They don't matter. If they ever told anyone, no one would believe them. Their nobody's. But the woman will prove to be a problem if she survives. Do you understand?"

"I understand sir."

"Good." It went quiet before the man spoke again. "And Garret... do not disappoint me again."

That wasn't a problem he had no intention of letting him down.
