Chapter 26: Paperwork

Maya's POV:
       I wake up. I go down to the kitchen and see Shawn. "Can I ask you something?" he asks. "Shoot." I answer.  "Can I adopt you? I want to help you and make sure you're ok. I know you're going through a lot right now." Shawn says. He asked me. I thought he would never ask. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" I scream. He looks happy.
       I hug him. When we let go there's a knock. We both look at each other. Shawn opens the door. We see Riley's dad standing there. "Matthews, what are you doing here?" I ask. I then see Riley. "We couldn't find you." Matthews answers. "Maya!" Riley screams and hugs me. I smile. I drag her to my new room.
      "It's my new room." I tell her proudly. "You're being adopted?" she asks. I nod yes. She starts squealing. We hear squealing. We run in and see Matthews squealing. We laugh. "We're going to be late for school!" Riley screams. Shawn and I laugh. Riley, Matthews, and I start walking to school.
      We get there just in time. We walk into history. Everyone stares at me. Just me. No one else. Why did I have to leave my sketchbook yesterday? Matthews starts teaching right away.
     About 20 minutes later, Josh comes in. "Sorry to interrupt, but Maya has some paperwork and I wanted to make sure she's still here." he says. I glare at him while he hands me the paperwork. "Congrats, Maya." Josh tells me. "Why is he congratulating you?" Lucas asks me. "Because Uncle Shawn is adopting Maya!" Riley yells.
"I think he was asking me." I tell the brunette. She apologizes. "Congratulations, Maya." Lucas says. I smile. Matthews get back to teaching while I do my paperwork.
•when school is over•
I grab my stuff to go home. I suddenly see a note on the ground. I pick it up and it says, "No one loves you. They're just doing it out of pity. -M,R,H" I drop my stuff and run.
