When they came out of the castle, the day had turned to night, but they didn't seem to care. They jumped upon their horses and carefully lifting up the uncousicous Merlin. In this light, his pale skin looked the shade of paper, and his skin was cold as ice.

The rode into the woods, as fast as the horses legs would take them. They only stopped once every hour to check on Merlin. He was getting worse.

When it was starting to brighten and the horses seemed exhausted, the great towers of Camelot began to fade into view. It brought hope into the men's eyes after the long night.

-

Just two hours later, they were all cramped together in Gaius's room. He was, for the first time since Merlin had been kidnapped, working fast and swiftly. He was annoyed by all the Knights and his irritated glances sent Elyan, Leon and Percival away, but the rest of the Knights sat still, their eyes fixated on Merlin.

Gwen stayed with them between breakfast and lunch for an hour but then returned to her duties. She tried to make the men eat something but they seemed to distressed to do so, so she gave up.

-

Gaius became gradually more frustrated, but he tried to hide it for the other men in the room. But Lancelot easily noticed.

"What's wrong Gaius?" He calmly asked. But there was an underlying tone of deep concern, that was clearly visible.

"It isn't working. I am out of a rare root that seems to be the cure."

"Why didn't you tell us at once?" The King spoke up. His voice was plainly desperate.

"It is guarded by the most vicious of monsters- the Mind."

"I have never heard of this creature." The blonde spoke again. The other two dark haired Knights shook their heads in confusion.

"She knows all of your darkest secrets and all of your greatest wishes. Only the purest of hearts can pass Her."

"Then we must be off at once! We ride at d-"

"Wait!" The physician called after the men who where already on their way out of the small room. "Beware. She will try to lure and trap you, if you don't answer her questions. She already knows the answer but she wants you to show your true self. The root is blue and has purple spots all over it. And if she traps you, you will be stuck forever." He turned back to keep on treating his ward.

"Gaius?" Lancelot softly spoke.

"Yes?"

"How long does he have?"

"At best, two days."
