My Name is Liz. People also call me Lizzy or Lizard, but mainly Liz.
I have one brother, Elijah, who I have been trying to find my entire life.
Both of our parents were killed while we were young and "the system" ended up separating us to two different homes.
I was tired of bouncing home to home. I was tired of getting blamed and punished for no reason and I was tired of not being wanted.
I then took it upon myself to run. Run away from the terrible times, places and things that happened in "the system".
I found a new home. Out here on this sandy peninsula where there is beach, forest, and protection from the outside world.
The world is not safe anymore my friends and "the system" is not how it used to be.
This "system" was called the government and the government was taking anything and anyone for them to win this world war.
That would mean taking the men from their jobs and sending them off to war. Taking women from their homes and children to aid the wounded and to work in shops.
And where does that put me and the other children? We had to grow up and work for the older generation's mistakes. We were forced to work in shops and run mills to get supplies out to the war zones.
But I had been in "the system" for ten years until I decided on my 16th birthday I had enough. I ran and hid in this old underground bunker where I have now been for 8 years.
I'm 24 now and have been living down here peacefully with all I could have asked for and more. I found other kids along the way that I have helped them beat "the system" and they have been living with me since then. They're now 12 of us down here and we are helping kids escape the horrors that we have all had to live with.
This isn't 2017 anymore people this is 2053.
And this is the story where we live in the shadows of "the system".
