"JP let's go! They will be on our case if we don't get out of here in the next couple of seconds hurry!"
I look down into the cement whole where my second in command, JP, is prying apart a pair of cell wall windows.
"Hang on, we are going to get you out of here." JP talks to a pair of girls on the other side who were covered in mud and filth. With one of his contraptions he pulls the bars to the side and reaches down and arm links with the girls. Pulling both individually up like it was nothing.
JP is 21. He was the first person I rescued from the system. He was younger then, but I have seen him grow into a fine man.
He was willing to stay with me and to help me save others so I let him. We consider each other family now since we have been together for so long. He's like the brother I never got to have.
"Up you go!" JP says while lifting one of the girls to the surface while I help her keep steady on her own two feet.
JP then lifts the other girl up and she reunites with the first girl.
"What are your guys names?" I ask.
The first girl speaks up first, "I'm Sarah and this is Sammy" looking down at the younger looking girl.
"Ok we are going to take you to a safe place for now and then we will talk about the rest later." I say then look at JP who just came up from the cement whole.
"JP get her. I got this one." I look at the younger girl and turn around and crouch down. "Hop on."
She gets on my back and the older girl is on JPs
I start going down the alleyway where we came out of and look to see if the cost is clear.
There is an guard waiting right at the entrance of the gate, one in the tower above and another in the booth next to the gate.
"Got any plan?" JP asks from behind me.
"When do I not have a plan?" I smile back at him.
I look over to a shed and an old septic tank.
Distraction...
"You take the girls and wait for my go." I reach down and pick up a few rocks. While putting down the younger girl off my back.
JP picks her up instantly and looks at me.
"Don't do anything stupid."
"Oh, you know me so well, JP."
"I mean it. They have higher security here."
"JP chill." I look at him in the eye. "See you on the other side."I look for a chance when they are not looking and head over to the shed.
Making it just in time before they turn and look off into the distance again from up above. I take my chances and start throwing rocks at the nearby wall in the other direction that I came from. Throwing towards the back of the camp and making clinks off the hard yet solid surface to get the guards attention from the top of the tower.
He orders the man to go scope it out. Once he is past the shed and in my view I run and attack him from behind. Being a surprise attack he was pretty surprised.
I got him in the neck pretty hard and made him go to sleep. I grab his gun from him and look around the corner.
I look down at the gun to see how many rounds I have to work with. 6 rounds. Not bad.
I look up to the tower to see the other guard growing suspicion with what happened to his buddy.
He calls the other guy to go look for him and the second ground guard grabs his gun and starts passing this way. He is holding his gun up and scoping out the scene in front of him until I pop out in front of him and do a wicked kick to his gun. Kicking it off to the side and then shooting the guard. I then come out into the open and eye range the guard in the tower quickly not waiting to pull the trigger. He goes tumbling down before he even got a shot at me.
I look over to JP and he is already booking it to the front gate. He gets into the booth and pushes the button to open the gate door. It starts to slide open and I catch up to him and the girls.
The gate opens and I see one person on the other side.
"Took you guys long enough." Heath exclaims.
I smile at him. "Sorry we had more eyes out towards the end then usual. I try to get everyone out towards the beginning so they are not in my way of finishing the mission."
He just smiles and shakes his head. "You're crazy Liz. Everyone get in the truck before we have to kill anyone else."
I hop into the passenger side door. Heath takes the drivers side and JP gets in the back with the girls.
JP starts talking with the girls. Learning where they are from, how long have they been there and what they were doing on the base in the first place.
I decide to shut the little window and I let him handle the situation.
We drive out of the mill and head out towards home.
"How was it tonight did everything go smoothly?" Heath asks
I look at him with the expression of this is really not the time to talk and he got the hint right away.
Heath is 21 just like JP. He's my third in command and also like a brother to me. It was just the three of us for a few years until we let others join our small group.
He was built like JP. Big muscles, longer hair, but his attitude was more brighter then JP's. He liked to find the good in the bad and would joke around here and there to keep the moment positive.
After an hour and a half ride home in the middle of the night we get back around 5:30 a.m. We pull into the drive and park the beat up truck where we found it from day one. I get out and open the lift to the back of the truck.
I look to JP and then the girls.
"Welcome to your new home for a couple of days. Where the sun is sunny the beach is beachy and the grass is green." They looked at me like I was crazy until I stepped back for them to see the view.
The sun was rising above the water and the waves were crashing up on shore.
Their eyes lighten up and their faces were expressionless.
This is why I do what I do. To save these kids that have no clue what is really out there and their faces say it all.
After every mission that's what I look forward to the most. That glimmer of hope in their eyes that shows life again.
That's all I want is for them to find piece again.
Even if it's just for a little while.
