The Bunk Of The Bunker

This is going to be your new home for the next couple of days. I look over at the two girls who both are in total shock with the suns rays.

I open the rusty out dated bunker door and start walking the steps down into the underground bunk.

It was cozy most days. We have gathered house hold items over the past couple of years. T.V.'s, mattresses, lights, tables and chairs, the things the average human would call 'homey'.

I hear JP close the door behind us with a thud and a lock. We all then gather at the end of the bunkers stairs. I look out and see the others eyeing us.

"Girls meet the family, family meet Sarah and Sammy. They are going to be staying with us for awhile." I then walk towards the kitchen to get a drink. A nice cold beer doesn't sound too bad at the moment.

Claire would be the first one to greet the girls. "You poor little things, lets get you cleaned up and into some clean clothes." Sammy and Sarah join hands and follow Claire into one of the bathrooms.

Claire is 19. One of the most friendliest girls in the bunker. She would do anything to help save any stranger off the street. I always think to myself why are there not more Claire's in this world. With her bubbly personality and her spunky attitude. All the Claire's disappeared.

I hear footsteps behind me and notice it's JP.

"Liz we have to talk about tonight." as I open the fridge door.

"What do we have to talk about?"

"Well, for one, you took too many guys head on when we went through the back way. You could have gotten yourself killed."

I find what I'm looking for and close the fridge turning around to be face to face with JP.

"JP I understand what you are saying but we had that mission to save those girls. There parents were looking for them and I wasn't going to allow anything to stop me during that mission." I walk past him towards the hallway towards my room.

JP still following behind me, "Have you ever thought about not doing so risky missions? Have you ever thought about losing your life? Have you-"

"I'm going to stop you right there JP." I look him dad in the eye. "You know damn well I think about the 'what if's' and if I'm doing things that might get us caught, but you know who wouldn't be here if I didn't make those dissections?" He looks right at me with a dead face.

"JP I have given you many outs, but it's either you're with me, or without me on these missions. I can always ask Heath to do inside jobs with me-"

"No." He shakes his head and looks down. "No, Heath would just get himself killed."

"And that's why I have you come with me. You know what you are doing and I know you will cover my back no matter what." I state a put my hand on his shoulder. "I need you, but it's your call." I then step back and close the door.

I start unclipping my holsters from my body laying them all out on the table.

One by one I lay a new gun out.

How has my life come to this. Growing up kids didn't have to deal with guns and grenades, and god knows what else is out there. The world was at some sort of piece where people where able to roam free and where able to express whatever they wanted, but things change. Things change drastically and always not for the better.

I look at my wall map to see the state of Michigan.  We were surrounded by fresh water. Fresh clean water, until WWIII happened. This time the enemy came to us and what better what to get all your resources in one place other then Michigan.

War broke out, people were killed and the country divided. The enemy moved out and all we are left with is the rubble we used to call home and 'the system' that took over.

I open my beer and open up some documents I stole from the base we just came from. I do that from time to time to see what they have up there sleeve no matter how big or small.

I skip through some of the shipment papers until one of them caught my eye.

SHIPMENT: 7349

BASE: 84

TITLE: MOVE IN

DATE: 3/16

THE CALL TO DROP 20 MORE MEN HAS BEEN APPROVED. HAVE THE BASE PREPPED AND READY BY 700 HOURS.

That's happening in like 2 more hours, I think to myself.

The question is now, should I stay or should I go investigate?
