"Agent Sia reporting for duty, sir." I saluted the tall man standing before me in his office. It was a quite large space to be called an office, but it was full of files and books, along with several cameras and computers."Ambrosia. What did I tell you about this?" The man chastised, folding his hands behind him as he faced me directly.
I gulped and looked away. "But sir, this is strictly work. There's no reason for m--" I started but he cut me off.
"As your boss, I'm ordering you to do so. Well?" he looked at me with a slight frown but expectations in his eyes.
I sighed in resignation. "Yes, Uncle Jax... sir." I added hesitantly, unable to drop the formality completely. Jax Kaos was not only my boss, but also my uncle and the only family that I have. He's known to be a strict and uptight man, hence the reason why most people call him Mr. Chaos (Kaos is pronounced the same as chaos, so people use this as an inside joke).Even though other agents had to refer to him as "sir" or "Director", he wanted me to call him Uncle Jax. In reality, he's just a soft marshmallow.
Uncle Jax smiled as I gave in and crossed my arms. "Well, I see you're back safely and in one piece. Rustov didn't hurt you did he? If he did, I outta-" he winded up, preparing for a fight.
I interrupted him. "No uncle. Everything went fine. I can't be a secret agent if I can't handle some pain. Besides, he swung like a baby. You of all people should know that agents could get hurt in the field."
"Still, he hurt my precious niece.. That's it. I made up my mind; I'm gonna go make him feel some pain." he declared, pushing up his sleeves while marching out of his office.
I rolled my eyes. "Uncle Jax. If you don't come here right this second, I'm disowning you as my uncle." I threatened.
He stopped and spun around so quickly, he surprised me. "W-what? No, no, no, you can't! H-how could you??" he cried out in anguish.
I muffled my giggles and pat his shoulder. "I'm kidding Uncle Jax. You know you're the only family I have." I told him quietly.
His eyes fell down and the corners of his mouth were set in a slight frown. "I know I may not be the best uncle, but I'm doing my best to take care of you since your parents..." he trailed off, unable to continue.
I gave him a quick hug, but stepped away a second later, not comfortable with mushy feelings or physical contacts. Don't get me wrong; I love my uncle but I feel safer keeping to myself.
"You do take good care of me. And I'm a secret agent, which is totally awesome. I love my job. I love this simple life; receive mission, carry it out, report, then I'm finished. There's no one else for me to take care of and waste my energy thinking or protecting them since I work alone. It's just easier for me that way." I told Uncle Jax, shrugging my shoulders.
He let out a big sigh and turned around, facing the big window pane behind his desk.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I know you are one of the best-- heck, you are the best agent that we have, but you're too independent. Not only that, since you're a girl, guys could out-power you." Uncle Jax explained, sounding worried.
My face hardened as I took in his words. "What do you mean guys could out power me? I've learned karate, boxing, MMA, Brazilian Mui Tai, Kung Fu, and even street fighting. Just because I'm short and am a girl doesn't mean that I can't beat some stupid guy's ass." I fired back, pissed by what he said.
Uncle Jax ran his hand through his thick raven-black hair. After few seconds of tense silence, he opened his mouth to speak. "I know you're fully capable of handling difficult situations. However, I am assigning you to a group that I've been working on. This will be the Alpha Team, called BTS. You'll get to meet the guys-"
"Wait. Guys? As in males? Multiple males at that?" My voice raised as I grew angrier by each second. "What do you expect me to do in a group, let alone a group full of guys??"
"Ambrosia." He spoke with such authority that I had no choice but to shut up, but I definitely wasn't pleased.
"Let me continue. Now, you'll get to meet the guys soon. I have their profiles in this Manila folder and you should read through them to get to know the members better. I have some cases that needs to be solved but I need the very best agents to work on it. I'd do it, but I can't handle it all by myself. So, as I was saying, you will be placed in that group and work together with them. If you refuse or cause problems, I will remove you from the Association. And you will have to go back to college." Uncle Jax finalized, while my mouth dropped in disbelief.
"I can't believe this. He's threatening me to do something and I have no choice in the matter. This is just absurd." I angrily mumbled to myself.
Uncle Jax walked behind his desk and handed me a thick folder. I reluctantly accepted it and skimmed through the papers. There were 7 members total, with detailed information provided on the paper and pictures of each of them. They weren't half-bad looking, I must admit. Who am I kidding; they were gorgeous. However, that doesn't matter to me. What does matter is their skill and intelligence. Good looks won't save you out in the field.
"I know you're not too happy about this, Sia-" he started.
I rolled my eyes to the side so that he couldn't see. "Not too happy is an understatement." I muttered under my breath.
"- but please act civilized to them. They are very skilled, so I don't think you'll have too much trouble training with them. Read through the folder carefully today and I'll bring the guys over tomorrow to my office. Make sure to come too." Uncle Jax instructed with a pleading look but sounded firm.
I let out a big sigh. "Not like I have any choice. I'll be the judge of how capable they are." I replied sassily and started walking towards the door.
Uncle Jax just shook his head. "You'll thank me for this later, Sia." he called out.
I grabbed the door handle with my hand but stopped. I turned halfway and said, "I don't think so. Good bye, sir." I accentuated the last word since I knew he didn't like me referring him to that. As I expected, he crinkled his nose, but didn't say anything. I smirked and continued to walk out the door, making sure to slam the door behind me.
Great. Just great.
A/N- Okay, don't judge Sia too harshly so quickly; although she is a very talented agent, she has always worked alone and since all of her family members died, she's very bitter and stand-offish. She doesn't work well with other people, which is the reason why she didn't have a partner and preferred to work by herself. What do you guys think of the story so far?
