I stood with my arms crossed, eye narrowed in frustration. Hikari stood next to Sasuke, defiant as ever. She had followed Sasuke to come train with me as well, despite me banning her from training at all. I was worried about her memory loss, which she was missing the therapy for at the moment.

"Why are you so difficult?" I asked with a sigh.

"Why won't you train me? I know I don't remember much, but I remember you Kakashi-san! And I remember Sasuke-san too! You're the only people I recognize right now!" I stared in shock at her outburst, as did Sasuke.

"You recognize us?" She nodded, a more determined look in her eye.

"I'll go back after you help me with genjutsu. Something inside me says that I've got a knack for it." I tapped my chin in thought. If someone were to learn powerful genjutsu, two Sharingan users were their best partners. I sighed and threw up my hands.

"Fine. If you really want to learn genjutsu, I can't refuse." She smiled and fist pumped the air as I shook my head. This was going to be interesting.

I leaned against a rock breathing heavily as I looked at the stars. I had been trailing them for two days, and now in the dead of night, I'd lost them. Why? Why had they taken her?! In anger I punched the rock, causing it to crack. My vision got blurry and I hastily wiped the tears away as I summoned my ninja hounds.  I held out a charm Hikari had made and they took off after her scent. I slid to the ground and stared at it. It was a black fox with the word 'release' carved into it. She had made them for all of Team 7 and they had been in her pocket when Naruto rushed her to the hospital. They'd been wrapped in a note stating that they were to break through her genjutsu if for some reason we were ever enemies. She was wise and talented beyond her years, and now she was being kidnapped. I looked back at the stars as I held the charm tightly, praying that I would never need it for its true purpose.

I stood patiently before Lady Hokage as she paced behind her desk. I had just returned from another mission to try and locate Hikari.

"While you were gone, I looked into the Yami clan, but as I had feared there was nothing. They refuse to help as well. I don't know what they're planning, and it worries me." I nodded and spoke the words I was dreading.

"It may be time to consider her death. There are no traces of her chakra or anything." She looked up at me with a knowing look.

"You know better than anyone who she is. Have you given up?" I looked sadly at the floor.

"First her, and then Sasuke... I don't think I have the heart to keep looking right now. I will go immediately if there are clues to her location, but I can't do this anymore." I heard her sigh and met her gaze.

"If that is what you wish, Kakashi, I will stop the search." I nodded and she dismissed me. I went for a long walk after that, recounting all I knew about her. Yes, she had a demon, but why would the Akatsuki want her? They were going after the tailed beasts I had thought. No one knew what kind of demon was sealed inside Hikari other than her and her mother. I sighed in frustration and headed home. Maybe once Naruto returned, we could resume the search for her. He always had a way to motivate his team.
