Geoff Payne stared at all the boys that were in his office, waiting for the meeting to start. His son was talking quietly with Niall, as Jay was showing Zayn and Harry pictures of new weapons they had gotten in. Louis was texting, while Rob and Sean were biting into sandwiches his wife had made.
"Dad, are we gonna get started?" Liam asked
"I need your sister," Geoff growled, looking down at his watch, "She's always so bloody late. Thinks the world revolves around her."
"But doesn't it?" a voice came, and in walked 16-year-old Sofia Payne, smiling widely at her father's glare. Everyone's eyes were on her, even at 16 she could make everyone stop and stare. In jeans and a tank top, she wasn't trying to attract attention, she just couldn't help it. She didn't look like she was 16; she always looked older then her age.
"Why so serious, daddy?" she asked, a mischievous sparkle in her eye.
"You're late, where have you been?" her father asked, his voice stern.
"I told you I was going out shopping today after school," Sofia said, causing her brother to roll his eyes, "I told you to make the meeting later."
"Perhaps you need to be reminded about who tells who things around here," Geoff's voice growled, but Sofia wasn't intimidated. She rolled her eyes, and found Zayn, sitting on his lap.
Zayn wrapped his arms around the girl's waist, pulling her into him. She leaned back into him, staring at her father, who was still glaring.
"Do you always have to get him started?" Zayn whispered in her ear, squeezing her sides.
"It's so fun," Sofia whispered back. Geoff Payne was just about to start the meeting when his phone rang, causing him to grown, but he answered it anyway. While speaking, his eyes landed on Sofia and stayed there. Sofia was too busy flirting with Zayn to notice.
"You should come back to mine tonight, after the club," Zayn said quietly, his lips falling on her shoulders.
She smiled at him, a teasing smile, "We'll see."
"What? You have other plans?" Zayn asked, a growl to his voice. But he knew better then to get too possessive with Sofia, she wasn't his, and she enjoyed letting him know that.
"I don't know if I have other plans yet," Sofia said, shrugging, "I never know. How's Perrie?"
"Don't fucking start," Zayn growled at her, as Sofia laughed. Zayn and Perrie had been on and off for years, and when Sofia and Zayn first started hooking up this Christmas, the 3 of them seemed to be in a dramatic circus. You never knew which one Zayn was going to take home, or which one would allow Zayn to take them home.
"Sofia," Geoff barked, looking up from his desk, and causing Sofia to look up, "Did you get a detention for Monday?"
"Yes," Sofia answered honestly, causing her father to sigh deeply.
"What did you do?" Liam asked, looking at his sister, his voice stern but caring too.
"None of your business," Sofia snapped, rolling her eyes, and ignoring as Zayn pinched her.
"Sofia, you can't just bloody do whatever you want, I can't have the school calling me," Geoff Payne started to yell, standing up form his desk, "If you're going to make out with someone –"
"You were making out?" Liam cried
"What?" Zayn snapped, pushing Sofia off of him, she turned to see his glare.
"I don't bloody care what you with your time, Sofia," Geoff growled at his standing daughter, "As long as it doesn't interfere with what is going on here."
"Oh I'm so sorry you had to take time out to be a parent," Sofia snapped back, causing a vein in her father's neck to pop.
"You're getting awfully brave, Sofia," her father snapped, "Keep your make out sessions to before and after school. Not during school and on the steps"
"Who are you even making out with?" Liam barked, "You shouldn't be making out with anyone outside us! It's dangerous, Sofia! You can be so fucking careless!"
"Oh you mean, outside us, like Danielle?" Sofia snapped back, "Don't try and be a fucking parent, Liam."
"Watch who you're talking to like that," Liam hissed.
"Fuck you," Sofia growled, "You aren't in charge."
"I'm about to knock you out," Liam growled, stepping up to his sister, ignoring as Niall put his hand on his shoulder.
"I'd like to see you try," Sofia hissed.
"ENOUGH!" roared Geoff, taking the attention off both of his children and putting it back on him, "I don't have time for your fucking silly sibling arguments, I have a job to get done."
"You started it!" Sofia snapped, and before she knew it, his fist was connecting with her face. Gasping, and grabbing her chin, Sofia looked up, at him. Geoff was panting in anger, Sofia was glaring, and everyone else was silently looking on.
"You better remember your place, Sofia Payne, or I'll have to remind you," he growled at her, Sofia released her chin, still glaring.
"And you better remember that you fucking need me," Sofia hissed, causing her father to reach for her, "WITHOUT BRUISES!"
Geoff Payne stopped in his tracks, glaring at his daughter. She had always been a little too mouthy for him, but she had spunk, she wasn't scared of anything – including him. His jaw locked and his eyes narrowed, as she continued to glare up at him.
"You wait until I can get my hands on you, Sofia," Geoff hissed at her, "You just bloody wait. You just wait until I get this job done."
"You mean, wait until I get this job done?" Sofia growled, stepping back from her father, "Because that's what it's going to come down to. It's what it always comes down to – me."
"You're a pain in my ass," her father spat out at her, before returning to his seat. He couldn't bruise her, because he did need her. She was right, she had him there.
"Yes, well," Sofia growled, "You're no walk in the park, daddy."
Geoff Payne couldn't help but grin at her. Unlike Liam, Sofia had his spunk. She had his talent, and his mouth. She may look like her mother, but she was his child. He would never tell her that, but he knew that she would be the future of this gang. She would always get jobs done, and unlike Liam, she wouldn't let attachments stand her way.
"Sit, Sofia," her father growled, "While you can still move."
***
"Tonight's job is easy. You could do it in your sleep," Geoff said, "This fucker owes me money, and instead he spends it on booze and women. He's been stupid enough to spend money at my club, so I'm just going to have to remind him that I'm still waiting – and there's interest."
"Sofia, I need you to get his attention," her father said, "I don't care how you do it – just get his attention, and get him out of the club. We'll meet you at the end of the street."
"Why the end of the street?" Sofia barked, "That's a bloody long way off with no one looking out for me."
"You shouldn't need anyone to look out for you," her father spat, "If he tries something, you take care of it. You're not a fucking doll, Sofia. You have skills, use them."
"She's right though – that's a while to be by herself with this guy," Liam said, glancing over at his sister, "Aren't you worried about her?"
"No, Liam, I'm not worried about your sister," Geoff Payne barked, "If she gets hurt, it's her own fault. Don't get hurt, Sofia!"
"I'll try my hardest," Sofia hissed at him, glaring.
"Moving on," her father said, "Did you get the pictures like I asked you, Harry?"
"Yeah," Harry said, standing up, and passing Geoff a folder, "Still didn't get where he's staying. But, we got him going in and out a ton of shops, and making a deal with some teenagers."
Geoff was staring at the pictures that Harry had gotten, when his office door slammed open, revealing Emily and Katie – with Sofia's mother.
"Sorry we're late," Katie said, Mr. Payne didn't say anything, just waved them into the office, where they took seats next to Sofia.
"Sofia, what happened to your chin?" her mother asked, walking up to her and grabbing her face. Sofia hissed.
"Dad happened," Sofia answered, pulling her face away from her mother's grasp.
"Sofia, are you ever going to learn?" her mother asked quietly, and Sofia just smiled at her.
"Mum, I'm fine. It didn't even hurt," Sofia said. It was a lie, of course. It did hurt, but Sofia didn't want to worry her mother. Her mother sighed, before walking out of the office, mumbling something about dinner.
"Your phone's been ringing off the hook," Emily said, handing Sofia her cell phone.
"It's probably Isaac, about our stupid English paper," Sofia said, shoving the phone in her pocket.
"Alright, listen up," Geoff said, "We have this guy. We don't know what he's selling, but I'm pretty sure it's coke. He's not in with our dealers, he's new – and he's loosing me money. I want this guy dead before he fucks with anymore of my customers. So, we need to narrow it down on where to get him..."
Mr. Payne passed a photo around, but Emily, Katie, and Sofia were too busy discussing their English class to pay attention to what was being said as the picture was passed.
"Have you even started it?" Katie asked, as Sofia shook her head.
"No, I'll work on it Monday in detention, I'll make Isaac come with me," Sofia said softly.
"Here," Zayn said gruffly, hating that Isaac Belfie was being discussed right in front of him. Emily took the picture, thanking Zayn quietly, before handing the picture to Sofia.
"No fucking way," Katie gasped quietly, looking at the picture.
"Are you kidding me?" Emily hissed, "Is that –"
"Of course it is," Sofia said, staring at the picture, biting her lip, and sighing deeply.
"What's going on?" her father asked, snapping the 3 girls out of their surprise. Sofia looked up at her father unsure, while Katie and Emily squirmed uncomfortably beside her.
"Sofia, what is going on?" her father asked again, standing up from his desk, and walking over to her.
'I know him," Sofia said quietly, catching everyone by surprise.
"You what?" her father barked, "How the fuck do you know a drug dealer that I don't know?"
"Because my first year of school was his last, and he wasn't a drug dealer, he was just Jake. He asked me out a few times," Sofia said, looking up at her father.
"He asked you out?" her father said, a grin appearing on his face, "Well, maybe this will be easier then I thought."
"Do you know where he lives, Sofia?" Jay asked, she looked at Emily and Katie, as though asking for help. Both of them fell quiet, and looked at the floor.
"No," Sofia answered
"Don't lie about this, Sofia!" her father barked, yanking her up from the couch.
"I don't know where he lives!" Sofia screeched, ripping herself away from her father, "But I know where he parties."
"Parties?" Louis asked from the corner, next to Harry.
"He runs an underground rave," Sofia said, "Every weekend. He may be selling coke, but his big drug is molly."
"How the fuck do you know this?" Liam hissed at his sister.
"Relax," Sofia snapped, "Everyone in school knows about it. He let's everyone in. It's a big thing."
"Can you get in?" her father asked, and Sofia's head snapped toward him.
"Of course I can get in," Sofia scoffed at him, "Why?"
"Because that's where we'll grab him," her father said, "Niall, Jay, Zayn – I want you to scope this place. Have a plan for me by tonight; we'll go in tomorrow. Sofia, Emily, Katie – get ready to rave. Sofia, you have a history with this guy – I want you to use it."
"Dad, maybe we should get someone else to do this," Liam said softly, taking in his sister's face, "She knows him, that might be a little rough on her, don't you think?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Liam," Geoff Payne barked, "You're sister knows better then to let a little thing such as knowing the person get in the way of a job, right Sofia?"
Sofia flinched under her father's piercing glare. She liked Jake. He was a nice guy, and he was cute. He was always nice to her, even after she rejected him. He didn't know that he was fucking with her father's business. This was someone who had feelings for her, and now she was going to manipulate those feelings and get him killed. Just because he was getting in the way of money.
"Sofia, I asked you a question," her father barked, snapping Sofia out of her thoughts, "Don't let me down, Sofia. These things happen, you know that."
"Yeah," Sofia said with a nod, "I know. It's fine. I can get it done."
Liam sighed, putting his head in his hands, as he watched his sister go cold. While most people would cringe at the idea of killing an old classmate, Sofia didn't even flinch. She just had to get the job done, that was all that mattered.
"That's my girl," her father said, it was about the highest praise she ever got from him.
"Okay, everyone be ready for the club tonight. We'll go over a plan for the rave tomorrow morning. And then Sunday, Sofia, you remember that weapons distributer?"
"Yes," Sofia said.
"He's back in town, and I want to send you in under cover to the bar, see if I can get him to bring you back to his place," her father said, "But we'll go over that on Sunday."
"Am I going in by myself?" Sofia asked
"Of course you are," her father snapped, "I don't have fucking time to baby you." She heard her brother growl at his father's words, Liam always was too protective.
"Geoff, how many jobs has she worked in a row?" Jay asked, his voice careful.
"It'll be six after Sunday," Sofia said quietly.
"Dad, come on," Liam said softly, his voice almost pleading, "You're gonna wear her out. Maybe we should get someone else. "
"She's the best," Geoff barked, "I don't want someone else – I want her to get the jobs done. Are you tired, Sofia? Am I working you too hard?"
His voice was cold and hard; he was pushing her to see if she would break. This is what he did; he would push her to see how much she could take.
"Of course not," she said, her voice just as cold and hard, "I'm fine. Stay out of it, Liam." Liam sighed deeply, shaking his head at her.
"Did you train today?" her father asked
"I had school, and then I came here," Sofia answered. Her father turned back to her.
"That's not what I asked you, I asked you if you trained."
"No," Sofia answered.
"You can train now. Zayn, Niall, and Jay are busy with this. Liam, I want to talk to you about tonight. Louis, do you mind?"
"No sir," Louis answered, looking over at Sofia.
"Actually, you're too easy on her," her father said, "Harry, you're brilliant in the ring – do you mind?"
"Nah, I can take her," Harry said, looking over at her. Sofia smirked at him. She liked Harry; he stayed out of her way and was nice to look at. He was always around, but she almost never noticed because he was either attached to Louis, or trying to bring someone home. Harry was always around for the jobs, but then he tended to disappear. He had a reputation of drinking a lot and shagging a lot. Unlike every other guy in the gang, he had never bothered to hit on Sofia. Maybe it's because he didn't want to piss off Zayn, or maybe he just didn't think he had a chance, either way, it made her curious about him.
"I don't know if you can handle me, Styles," Sofia growled, a smirk playing on her face. His face didn't change, as his eyes drifted up and down her body. He let out a short laugh.
"You don't scare me," Harry said, "Besides I've been waiting to shut you up since you walked in." Sofia laughed, licking her lips. Harry could keep up with her, that much she knew. Often, he was one step ahead of her quips. While she was used to intimidating men with her looks and attitude, she never intimidated Harry. He didn't fall for her tricks, in fact, he rarely paid attention to them. She enjoyed that about him. He was different. She could wrap any of these boys around her finger with just a look, but not Harry.
"Good luck," she said, standing up, and looking at her father, "Are you done?"
"Yes," he answered, "Be ready to go tonight. Wear something that shows skin..."
"You realize that most father's don't say stuff like that, right?" Sofia asked, and Geoff looked up at her, his face unamused.
"I'm not your father right now, I'm your boss," he said, causing Sofia to scoff, before walking out.
***
Sofia was dressed and ready to go to the ring, grabbing water out of the fridge, as she passed her father, Niall, and Zayn in the kitchen.
"Grab me an apple," Niall called to her.
"Fuck off," Sofia growled, "You have legs."
"You're right there!"
"So?" Sofia spat, before walking out of the kitchen and slamming the door behind her.
"I don't care how hot she is," Niall growled, "She's fucking annoying."
Sofia Payne was walking towards the car where Liam, Harry, and Louis stood. Liam stared at her as she walked towards them, taking a sip of her water.
"You're being worked too hard," Liam said, "And unless you say something to him, he's going to keep it up."
"You are more of a dad then he is," Sofia scoffed, "I'm fine. Why do you insist on treating me like a child?"
"You are a child, Sofia," Liam said, "Now – about this staircase make out. What is it with you? Why do you insist on being careless? Sofia, people can't find out."
"Relax, Liam," Sofia scoffed, "It was nothing. I just didn't want to go to class – and he hosts an epic house party at the end of the year. I was guaranteeing my invitation." She smirked at her brother, who looked ready to explode.
"Do you ever get sick of using boys?" Louis asked, humor in his voice, "One day, Sofia. One of them might mean something to you, and your games aren't going to work."
"You're kidding right?" Sofia asked, rolling her eyes, "Just because you and Liam feel the need to place house doesn't mean the rest of us do."
"I'm playing house – I'm married," Liam snapped, "And I wish you would be more careful – that's all I'm saying. If it were up to me –"
"But it's not up to you," Sofia said, cocking her head to the side, "You're not my father, Liam. And you're not boss. So, if you'll excuse me, I have to train."
"You need ice your chin," Liam said, gently putting his finger on her chin, she moved her face away from him.
"It's fine, it doesn't even hurt," Sofia hissed.
"You're unbelievable," Liam growled, "You're so careless. And one day, it's going to get you or someone you know seriously hurt."
"Hasn't yet," Sofia quipped, pushing past him, and causing him to groan in frustration. Stepping up to Harry and putting on her most seductive smile, she held her hand out.
"Can I drive?" she asked sweetly, biting her lip and batting her eyelashes. Harry looked at her, his face never changing.
"You're not old enough to drive," Harry replied.
"So?"
"So, I don't fucking think so," Harry snapped at her, "Maybe you're willing to be careless with your life, but you sure as hell aren't going to do it under my watch."
"You're all so dramatic," Sofia sighed, rolling her eyes.
"Get in fucking car, Sofia," Harry growled, grabbing her hips and pushing her towards the passenger seat.
"Easy," she hissed at him, smirking, "At least take me to dinner first..."
"Does that line ever work for you?" Harry asked
"You'd be surprised what I can get boys to fall for," Sofia said, cocking her head at him.
"Then their idiots," Harry said, shaking his head at her, and opening the car door for her, "Get in."
Sofia sighed, and rolled her eyes, but she did get into the car, and Harry slammed it behind her. He turned to Liam and Louis who looked just as un-amused as Harry.
"I know she's good at her job and everything, but does she ever turn the act off?" Harry asked.
"She wasn't always this bad," Liam said, softly, "Once upon a time she was an actual human being, now she's just..."
"A bitch?" Harry suggested, and Louis snorted.
"Now, she just trained," Liam said, shaking his head, "At least when she's got the act on, she isn't vulnerable."
"She's crazy," Harry said.
"She's listening," Sofia snapped, rolling down the window, "Are we going or not?"
"You know, I'm not one you want to cross, Sofia," Harry growled at
her, and she raised her eyebrows in amusement before laughing.
"I'm not one you want to cross, either," Sofia hissed, "Stop psycho analyzing me, and take me to the gym."
"I can't wait to kick your ass," Harry growled, "Get your feet off my dashboard."
Sofia rolled her eyes, but removed her feet rom the dashboard, as she watched Harry cross over to the drivers seat. She looked out the window to where Liam and Louis were watching her carefully.
"See you tonight, boys," she smiled before waving as the car pulled off.
"Just so you know," Harry said, staring out the window, "I don't buy the act."
Sofia looked over at him, unsure of what to say back to him. His words caught her by surprise.
"Just so you know," Sofia snapped, looking out the window, "I don't give a fuck."
