The thing about being yourself around a person, and allowing them to see parts of you that you don't let other's see, is it gives you confidence. Harry was feeling confident, cocky even. It wasn't that he wasn't just as possessive, or protective, or jealous. But he had found himself relaxing. He knew deep down, that whoever Sofia danced with or flirted with or tried to rile him up with didn't matter. Because she always chose to leave with him.
He was confident that if gave her the room to play her games, with a warning and raised eyebrow here or there, in the end, she would choose him.
He had come to the conclusion that he had the time, and for her, he'd wait. He'd wait for her to come around. But he was confident. And it was showing.
"You and Sofia have weird foreplay," Niall said from beside him at the bar.
"Excuse me?" Harry asked, turning to look at him confused.
"I mean, look at her," Niall said, pointing, "She's just trying to make you jealous."
"Yup," Harry said, nodding his head as he took a long drink.
"And you're just sitting here," Niall said.
"I can't play into her all the time, Niall," Harry said, with a grin.
"Sex has made you one cocky son of a bitch," Niall said, as he watched Sofia lean down from the couch and kiss Zayn, before strutting off to the dance floor.
"It's not the sex, Niall," Harry said, with a laugh.
"Then what is it?" Niall said, "Because she hasn't even looked at you all night..."
"I know," Harry said, "That's her way of postponing the inevitable..."
"Which is?"
"Me," Harry said, with a grin.
"See?" Niall said, grabbing his beer, "You're getting cocky."
"No," Harry said, shaking his head, "I just know that she's it. And my guess is she knows it too, but she's stubborn. So she's not gonna admit it, and instead she's gonna dance with those guys out there."
"And that doesn't bother you?" Niall asked.
"We have time," Harry said, shrugging.
"Aren't you going to say something to her?" Niall asked, as Sofia moved on to the next dance partner, "I mean, you're not even on her radar right now..."
"Oh yeah," Harry said, nodding, "I'm gonna say something..."
"So, we should all be prepared for another fight?" Niall asked, his jaw locking.
"No," Harry said, "This won't cause a fight. It'll just put me in the forefront of her mind for the rest of night. It'll probably even drive her a little crazy."
And then before Niall could say anything, Harry got up from his seat, and walked over to the bar that Sofia had approached.
He was just going to say it. He probably shouldn't. But he was feeling confident. They had too many good days and nights, and he just had to say it. And he had a feeling that it'd be okay when he did.
"It's almost cute," Harry whispered behind her ear, causing her to jump, "Watching you flirt and dance with all these other boys..."
Her eyes narrowed on him immediately, as she took in his smug face.
"Oh yeah?" Sofia asked, "And what's so cute about that?"
"You should it in their eyes," Harry said, his own eyes dancing with amusement as her eyes narrowed on him more, "They actually think they have a chance of going home with you..."
"They do," Sofia responded immediately, raising her eyebrows at him.
Harry cocked his head at her, with a smile playing on his face that said she knew better then that.
"No, they don't," he said, his grin growing even wider as her jaw locked, "We both know who you'll be going home with tonight..."
"Getting a little cocky aren't you, Haz?" Sofia asked, her face growing smug, "Especially for someone I haven't paid one bit of attention to tonight..."
"I don't need you to pay attention to me at the club, Sofia," Harry said, shrugging, "Who you come with, and who you hang out with? It doesn't matter. What matter's is who you end with at the end of the night..."
"And you think it's gonna be you?" Sofia asked, swallowing her drink because his smug face made her want to kiss him right then and there, but she wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.
"Of course I do, Sofia," Harry said, leaning close to her.
Sofia's breath caught, and he noticed it immediately. At that is why he had no problem leaning into her and whispering what he said next.
"You're mine Sofia. I know it, they know it, and someday, you'll know it. You. Are. mine."
Sofia wasn't breathing, and Harry noticed that too. So before she had a chance to start breathing again, and come up with some quip back, he turned and he walked away.
It wasn't surprising that Harry said the words. What was surprising was how unafraid Sofia was after he said them.
She wasn't ready to go there yet, but she wasn't afraid that Harry had.
It made sense in a way though. He always had set the pace of what came next.
***
"You know," Danielle said, sitting next to Sofia on the couch, "There's make-up for that."
Danielle was pointing to the red marks along Sofia's neck that Harry left on her the night before. She did end up with him the night before, even before they went home, but neither mentioned the conversation by the bar. And that was okay, for both of them. Harry didn't need her to acknowledge his words, he just needed to say them.
Sofia put her hand over her neck with a smile, Danielle noticed that while a lot of things flashed through Sofia's eyes when she said what she said, embarrassment was not one of them. Whatever intimacy Sofia and Harry had behind their bedroom door was slowly starting to trickle into their everyday life. Danielle wasn't sure she had ever seen two people more comfortable with each other.
"That's a really judgmental voice for someone who used to let Liam leave marks all over her necks," Sofia said, laughing as Danielle's mouth dropped over.
"Oh yeah, I remember," Sofia said with a smug nod.
"I've never let Louis leave marks on me," Eleanor said, coming into the room, and flopping down on the opposite couch.
"Bullshit," Sofia mumbled, not looking up from her book.
"I can't believe your reading that book again," Danielle said, glancing warily at the book.
"Eh," Harry said walking into the room, "It's not a bad book."
He flopped down next to Sofia, causing her to roll her eyes, but not move them from the book.
"I never got it," Danielle said, shrugging, "Darcy was a dick."
"We all know him to a proud, unpleasant sort of man," Sofia said, glancing up from her book to look at Danielle.
"But this would be nothing if you really liked him," Harry finished, before putting a chip in his mouth.
"You did read it!" Sofia gasped, turning to look at Harry in shock and hit his shoulder.
"I told you I was going to," Harry said, grabbing her hand before she could pull it away.
"Yeah, but I didn't think you would," Sofia scoffed.
"I wanted to know why you liked it so much," Harry said, shrugging, "I'm not sure I still really get it. Too many words, I would have just told Elizabeth to shut up and kiss me."
"Such a romantic," Sofia said, rolling her eyes.
"Hey," Harry said, "I can be romantic! I showed you a little romance last night!"
Sofia looked at him carefully; she was not ready for him to bring up their conversation, especially in front of Danielle and Eleanor.
"What?" Sofia barked, "When?"
"I danced with you didn't I?" Harry said, grinning because he knew that's not what she was expecting him to say, "And I don't dance..."
"I got like 2 songs out of you," Sofia scoffed, rolling her eyes, "And it was only because you didn't want me dancing with Niall anymore!"
"Yeah, well," Harry grumbled, "You can't have it all. I'm not a dancer."
"To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love," Sofia said, quoting Pride and Prejudice to him as she raised her eyebrows.
"I hate that book," Harry mumbled, slouching down so that he was leaning in Sofia's arms.
"Shouldn't you be out with the boys?" Eleanor asked, rolling her eyes at him as he put his hand on Sofia's thighs.
"Didn't need me," Harry said, "Niall is going to see Danny, and Lou, Zayn, and Liam had the new gun shipment under control."
"Well, you keep interrupting perfectly good girl time," Eleanor said, "We haven't had Sofia to ourselves in over a week."
Sofia laughed loudly, as she shut her book and leaned back on the couch.
"It's not my fault she can't control herself around me," Harry said, causing Sofia to pinch his shoulder hard.
"Ouch!" Harry barked, "That fucking hurt!"
"Good,' Sofia said.
"You'll pay for that later," Harry said, raising his eyebrows at her and causing Sofia to snort.
"Yeah see, that," Danielle said, pointing at the two of them, "That's gonna get old fast. Just because you're sleeping together, doesn't mean you have to remind the world every three seconds."
"I know when it gets to be your age Danielle," Harry said, "You get jealous of us who still aren't sick and tired of the same old boring married sex... It's okay. We're hear for you."
"Shut up!" Danielle gasped, smacking his chest. Harry laughed loudly.
The was a commotion from the kitchen and it sounded like people were just getting home.
"Oh good," Danielle said, throwing her feet up on the table, "He's home. He can make dinner tonight."
Zayn, Louis, and Liam came into the living room with Emily and Katie behind them. Louis sat down next to Eleanor, as Zayn flopped down next to Harry.
***
"What are you guys doing here?" Sofia asked, sitting up and looking surprised.
"Well, since you don't pick up your phone anymore," Katie said, giving her a pointed look, "We figure we'd just come by."
"We're trying to convince Liam to let you go to the bonfire tonight," Emily said quietly, looking hopefully at Liam.
"I told you guys," Sofia whined, "I'm not into it."
"Yes, we know," Katie said, "But we figured we could guilt you into it..."
"Guilt me into it?" Sofia asked, her voice sounding like no one would ever guilt her into anything.
"Sof, we haven't hung out in ages," Emily said, her voice whining a bit.
"We just went to a club last week," Sofia said.
"For a job!" Katie barked, "When's the last time the three of hung out? Or went to a party?"
"You're always too busy doing school work, which is new. Or training, which is not new. Or you're with ... him!" Emily said, pointing at Harry accusingly.
"Or you're bragging about being with him," Katie said, rolling her eyes.
"Really?" Harry asked, sitting up a little straighter, as Liam made a disgusted noise.
"The last few parties haven't exactly worked out for me," Sofia said, ignoring Harry's smug face.
"That because you were shoving pills down your face, or getting videotaped..." Katie said.
"Or making out with new kids, or getting way too drunk, or sneaking out..." Emily said.
"Thank you," Sofia quipped sarcastically, as Harry's hand got tighter on her leg.
"This party doesn't have to be any of those things," Katie said, "Just us, hanging out by a bonfire! We don't even have to drink!"
Zayn laughed loudly at her, giving her a look that told everyone he didn't believe that for a second.
"Come on," Emily whined, stomping her foot, "No drama! It'll be fun!"
"Liam, make her go!" Katie said, turning to Liam, who threw his hands up in mock surrender.
"Why would he do that?" Harry asked.
"Because it'll be good for her to be with her friends, this our last year at school, we should appreciate it," Katie said, giving Harry a small glare.
"And absence makes the heart grow fonder," Emily said, "Or .. the hormones in your case."
"Who's going?" Sofia asked.
"Everyone!" Emily cried, "And they've been asking about you. You've been like hiding out... come out and play!"
"Yeah, okay," Sofia said, agreeing to go out with them with a shrug.
"You could sound a little more enthusiastic," Katie said, "It'll be fun! Just girls – no boys allowed!"
She looked pointedly at Harry, who smiled widely.
"Are you telling me I can't come to the party?" Harry asked, cocking his head to the side in amusement.
"That's exactly what I'm telling you," Katie said.
"It would be kinda weird," Louis said, "You being a school party. You'd look a little creepy."
"Do you think I'd look creepy?" Harry asked Sofia, looking down at her.
"I don't think I can answer that without getting myself in trouble," Sofia said, causing Harry to narrow his eyes on her.
"Rude," he snapped, "And to think I had plans for us tonight."
"You can't do that!" Emily said, pointing at him.
"Do what?" Harry asked, his eyes feigning innocent.
"We can't offer her sex," Katie whined, "Stop it!"
"Yes please," Liam snapped, glaring at Harry, "Stop it."
"I'll only go for a few hours," Sofia said, looking over at Harry.
"A lot can happen in a few hours," Harry growled.
"Relax," Sofia said, rolling her eyes, and pushing him off her, before standing up.
"We should figure out what we're going to wear," Emily said, pulling Sofia away before Harry could say anything else.
***
"That's not happening," Harry said, when he saw Sofia.
"What isn't?" Sofia asked, turning around as she moved her hair around.
"That outfit," Harry said, looking at her short skirt and plaid shirt.
"You're kidding right?" Sofia asked, moving toward him.
"Your ass is hanging out!" Harry barked.
"It's not even that short," Sofia scoffed, turning to show him that her ass wasn't actually hanging
out.
"Bend over," Harry barked in a voice that spent shivers up her spine.
Sofia bent over immediately, grabbing her ankles. A hard smack to her an ass caused her to gasp loudly. He grabbed her hips pulling her into him, as his lips went right next to her ear.
"I'll give you two choices," Harry whispered, "You can change, or you can go with a red ass."
"You're jealousy is showing, Harry," Sofia hissed, turning to him, and pushing him away.
"Sofia," Harry said, his voice deadly serious, "Put on pants."
"Make me," Sofia said, crossing her arms.
"Do you always have to make things difficult?" Harry growled, stepping towards her.
"Do you always have to be so bossy?" Sofia replied.
Harry grabbed her, spun her, so she was bent over his arm, and slapped her ass hard several times.
"Fuck Harry!" she hissed, but she didn't resist.
"I think you need a reminder," Harry said, "I'd hate for you to get confused about who you belong to before I let you go hang out with a bunch of hormonal teen boys."
He slapped her ass hard again, causing her to moan loudly, as he ran his hands over her skin, wiping away the sting.
"I guess a reminder wouldn't be a bad thing," Sofia said, standing up, grabbing him and kissing him hard, before they both tumbled into her bed.
"No skirt," Harry mumbled against her lips.
"You're seriously still trying to argue about this?" Sofia groaned, glaring up at him.
"There's no argument," Harry hissed, "No skirt, or no orgasm. You're choice."
"That's mean!" Sofia snapped, shoving him hard, "And it's not like you're my only option."
Harry's eyes narrowed immediately in anger, he gripped her hips hard.
"What did you just say?" Harry barked.
"You heard me," Sofia snapped, shoving him even harder and moving away from him.
"Careful," Harry hissed.
"I have finish getting ready," Sofia said, not looking at him while her jaw locked.
"You're kidding me," Harry barked, crossing his arms.
"I'm not," Sofia barked back, her eyes narrowed in determination. She was trying to make a point.
"Your delusions are amazing sometimes," Harry snapped, walking to her door.
"So are yours," she growled, turning away from him.
"I'll see you downstairs," Harry said, his voice cold and serious, he didn't want to push her any further, now wasn't the time, he had come to far with her to scare her away for good, "In. Pants."
His voice left no room for discussion, but she was too busy wondering if her comment had pushed him too far to be angry. It wasn't like Harry to walk away from a fight so easily.
***
Sofia looked around the party, cup in her hand. It wasn't that she wasn't having fun, it was nice to be around her friends again, but she just would rather Harry was here. It wasn't just him, she missed the other boys too, and Danielle and Eleanor. She had spent so much time with them lately; it was weird to be without them.
"You're in wonderland again," Katie said, sitting next to her, "Penny for your thoughts?"
"They aren't worth that much," Sofia said, shrugging, as she took a sip of her drink.
"Let me guess," Katie said, "Missing Harry..."
"I don't miss him!" Sofia snapped, "We just left things weird before I left..."
"So you're fighting?" Katie asked.
"No," Sofia hissed, "He can just be so...Harry!"
"The rule was no boys," Katie said, "Including Harry. Let's just have fun!"
"Yeah okay!" Sofia agreed, nodding with a smile. Katie was right. She should just enjoy herself. She pushed Harry from her head, and stood up, grabbing Katie and moving towards all the dancing bodies.
"Finally!" Emily called over the music, as she danced with Rob.
"Shut up," Sofia called back, moving her hips to the music.
She watched as Sean came out of nowhere, grabbing Katie surprising her, as they began to dance too.
"I thought the rule was no boys!" Sofia scoffed, rolling her eyes at both her friends.
"For you," Emily said, pointing at her, "We weren't giving up our boys."
"When you have one boy, we'll let you bring him," Katie said, an amused smile on her face.
And suddenly Sofia felt a rush of loneliness come over her. She watched her friends dance, and her heart ached. Not for a dance partner, but a single partner. It ached for someone who she could always dance with. Someone she could come to parties with. Maybe normal wasn't so bad. Maybe she did want it.
But you can't, Sofia thought to herself.
Remember everything you know.
It will make you weak.
It will put you in danger.
It will put him in danger.
It's not worth it.
You can't have it.
Stop thinking about it.
"I'm gonna get another drink," Sofia called to her friends, before turning around and moving through the crowd, back to the table with the drinks.
Sofia quickly threw vodka into a cup.
"I hope you're gonna put something other then vodka in that," a voice said from beside her.
Sofia turned to see the new boy Adam standing next to her, holding out a large bottle of coke to her.
"I'm good," Sofia said, taking a sip of her vodka.
"Wow," Adam said, looking impressed, "They weren't wrong about you."
"They?" Sofia asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Oh you know," Adam said, moving a little closer to Sofia and leaning against the table, "Everyone talks about you. Everyone seems to have a story about you."
"Oh yeah?" Sofia said, "Well, you can't believe everything you hear."
"I don't," Adam said, "I just kinda wanted to have my own story with you, how about a dance? I hear you kill it on the dance floor."
"Mmm," Sofia hummed, stepping toward him, "Maybe another night."
She just didn't want to dance with him. She didn't want to be in another story. She just wanted to drink her drink, and relax, and maybe convince Emily and Katie to get off the dance floor and make s'mores by the fire. She had come here for them. But a part of her was angry with herself for not taking him up on his offer.
You're getting emotional, she thought.
Stop it.
Get him out of your head.
Be yourself.
Be Sofia.
Stop acting like you're part of something you're not.
Cause you're not.
Even if he says you are.
Cause you're not.
Sofia walked away from Adam, and found a quiet seat by the fire, picking up a marshmallow.
***
"Poor guy," Chase said, sitting next to her.
He was looking over at Adam, who looked a little defeated. Sofia turned her head, confused.
"He'll be fine," Sofia said, shrugging, as Chase ripped off a piece of her marshmallow, sticking it in his mouth.
"I don't know," Chase said, "Getting turned down by you really can bruise an ego, believe me, I know."
"When did I ever turn you down?" Sofia scoffed, sitting back in her seat.
"When you disappeared with your boyfriend," Chase said, looking over at her, "It's amazing. I didn't think I'd ever see the day that you had a boyfriend. I mean, hell must actually be freezing over."
"He's not my boyfriend," Sofia said, rolling his eyes.
"So, he wouldn't mind if I moved a little closer to you," Chase said, moving over to her.
"I don't know if he'd mind it," Sofia said, although she did know, "But I don't mind."
The truth is she did have a point to prove. Just because Harry said she was his, didn't mean she was. He wasn't even here, but she still needed to know that his words hadn't affected her too much. She just wanted him out of her head.
"And would you mind," Chase said, "If I wiped this marshmallow off your lip?"
"No," Sofia said, allowing Chase to run his fingers over her lips.
She watched as Chase licked his finger, before moving closer to her.
"Come back to mine tonight," he said, cocking his head at her.
"Okay," Sofia agreed, before moving towards him and capturing his lips with hers.
Chase grabbed her face hard, getting more aggressive with his kiss. Sofia tried to not think, she tried to just kiss him. She tried to just be there. But it wasn't right. She didn't even want to kiss him. She was just trying to prove a point. But to whom? And why?
Chase moved his hands to her shirt, unbuttoning it so that he could pull it off her shoulders. Sofia's heart began to race, but not in a good way. There was nothing exciting about this; nothing about this was making her want more. She didn't even care about the point she was trying to make. He wasn't Harry, and she didn't want him touching her. He touched her necklace, he didn't mean to, but he did.
"Stop," Sofia said, pulling away and grabbing his hand. She was shaking her head a little too fast, and her eyes were on the ground.
"What's the matter?" Chase asked, looking at her stunned.
"I can't do this," Sofia said, moving away from him.
"Oh come on," Chase said, putting his hands back on her, "Sure you can. You're Sofia Payne."
The words pierced her. Of course you can. You're Sofia Payne. Of course you can. You've done it so many times before. Of course you can.
"You're right," Sofia said, looking at him, "I guess what I meant was, I don't want to do this."
She stood up from her seat, turning away from him quickly to try and find Katie or Emily.
"Would you look at that?" Chase said, causing Sofia to turn around.
"What?" she snapped.
"The tin woman went and got herself a heart," Chase said, his eyes narrowed in frustration.
Sofia didn't respond, she just turned and walked as fast as she could away from him.
***
"Hey," Emily said, finding Sofia on he back porch of the house.
No one else was there.
"Hey," Sofia said, as Emily sat down next to her.
"You okay?" Emily asked.
"Yeah," Sofia said, nodding, "I think so."
"You sure?" Emily asked.
"I've changed, haven't I?" Sofia asked, sighing deeply.
"I guess it would depend on who you ask," Emily said quietly.
"I'm asking you," Sofia said, looking over at her friend.
"I think you are exactly who you've always been," Emily said, "You just aren't hiding anymore."
"Chase said I found my heart," Sofia said, biting down on her lip.
"Chase is an idiot," Emily said, "You've always had a heart, one of the biggest."
"I left you in a bathroom earlier this year while you were tripping out of your head, I didn't even help," Sofia scoffed, "That's not someone with a heart."
"Everyone makes mistakes, Sofia," Emily said, shaking her head, putting her arm through her friends, "You're human, even if you're just realizing it. You're human. You're not perfect. But, I've always thought you were amazing."
"What do you think about Harry? About me and Harry?" Sofia asked.
"I think that when you find someone who brings out the best in you, and you bring out the best in them," Emily said quietly, "You should hold on to that."
"I'm not a relationship girl," Sofia said.
"A few months ago, you weren't a family girl. Look at you now. A few months ago, we wouldn't have had to convince you to come to this party. But we did. A few months ago, we would never be having this conversation. But we are. So right now, maybe you're not a relationship girl. But who knows? Maybe that will change."
"Can I tell you a secret?" Sofia asked.
"Always," Emily answered.
"I think it already is," Sofia whispered.
Emily smiled widely, putting her head on Sofia's shoulder.
"We've been through a lot, you and me," Emily said, "Haven't we?"
"Yeah," Sofia agreed, taking a deep sigh, "Do you regret it? I know I can be a pain, more trouble then I'm worth..."
"Not for a second," Emily answered immediately, causing Sofia to laugh gently.
"How come these parties never have food?" Sofia asked, causing Emily to look up frustrated.
"Yeah, what is up with that?" Emily scoffed, "Let's just ditch, and go get food..."
"You sure?" Sofia asked, "You really wanted to come."
"And I came," Emily said shrugging, "But really, I just wanted to hang out with you. So, let's get food. And then we'll take you home to Harry."
"Love that plan," Sofia said, closing her eyes with a giant smile.
Her eyes opened when she heard Katie yelling and running towards them.
"You gotta go," Katie hissed.
"What? Why?" Sofia said, standing up.
"Dante's here," Katie said, "And he's looking for you."
"We gotta get you outta here," Emily said, hearing yelling from around the house. And then a gunshot went off. And then another one went off.
"Sofia! We have to go!" Katie yelled, grabbing her friend.
"We can't let other people get hurt," Sofia said, and instead of running away, she ran towards the gunshots.
***
"What the hell are you doing man?" Adam yelled, as Sofia circled the house.
Dante was standing there with a gun pointed towards the air.
"I told you," Dante said, "I'm looking for Sofia Payne. And I'm not leaving without her."
Sofia stood still, Emily gripping her hand tightly.
"Sofia don't," Emily hissed.
Sofia watched as Dante pointed the gun towards Adam, and her breath caught as he cocked it.
"Have you seen her?" Dante asked.
"No," Adam said.
"Wrong answer," Dante said, shaking his head, putting his hand on the trigger, as Adam threw his hands up.
"DON'T!" Sofia yelled, stepping forward and out of the crowd.
Dante turned to look at her, a smile growing on his face.
"Sofia," he greeted, with a cool nod, "I presume."
"Dante," she said, her voice cold.
She felt Emily pull at her hand, as though trying to get her to run now, even as she had stepped forward.
"I believe you can help me with something," Dante said, stepping towards her.
"Really?" Sofia asked, "And was this your way of trying to convince me?"
"I didn't hurt anyone," Dante said, shrugging, "Yet."
"What do you want?" Sofia asked, her eyes narrowing.
"I believe you have something of mine," Dante said, and Sofia immediately knew he was talking about Chelsea.
She closed her mouth immediately, her stance straightening up.
"Oh look," Dante said, turning to the two men with him, "She's gonna get stubborn and stand for the cause. I figured you might not want to dish out the information."
"Did you?" Sofia hissed.
"Yeah," Dante said, "That's why I'm gonna need you to come with me. I have a feeling your family might be willing to negotiate a trade if I have you."
"You think I'm stupid enough to get in that car?" Sofia growled.
"I think if you don't want any of your friends to be shot and killed, it'd be a very smart move to get in my car..."
He pointed the gun at Emily's head, Sofia heard Emily take in a small gasp. Sofia immediately stepped in front of her, so the gun was instead aimed at her.
"Sofia, don't," Emily begged quietly.
Sofia turned around, looking back at Emily and then past her to Katie, and all of her other school friends. Emily was shaking her head, as though warning her not to go. But did Sofia really have a choice? She couldn't let innocent people get hurt because of her, and she wasn't going to give up Chelsea's location.
"Fine," Sofia said, turning back to Dante and shrugging, "Lead the way."
"Good girl," Dante said, grabbing her and pulling her towards the car.
His men still had guns pointed at the crowd, making sure that no one could go after her.
"You know we're going to be followed right," Sofia said, "I have people who will follow me."
"We figured that'd be a problem," Dante said, "That's why we slashed tires."
And then before Sofia could grasp fully what she had just gotten herself into, he shoved her into the car.
***
"Dante's in town," Zayn barked, running into the kitchen, "Our guys just got his car on camera."
"What?" Liam barked, standing up.
"He's been hiding out by Farrow woods," Zayn said, throwing papers at Liam. They were pictures that had Dante's car coming in and out of the woods.
"We get there now," Liam said, "This guy has got to be put down. I'm telling you, bullet in his head."
'He's not there," Zayn said, "He left. We're trying to track where he's going..."
"Well, then we'll meet him when he gets back," Liam said.
"Sofia!" Harry said, looking up at Liam panicked.
"Call her," Liam said, "Tell her to get home. Now. I don't want her out and about right now."
"Let's move," Niall said, causing everyone to start moving towards the door and out to the garage to arm up.
"She's not picking up," Harry called, heading towards his car.
"Harry!" Liam barked
"I'm going to get her," Harry said.
"We'll send Andy," Liam said, "We need you with us."
Harry looked at Liam with his mouth open and frustrated glare.
"Harry, we need you with us," Liam repeated.
"I'll get her," Andy reassured Harry, pulling out his keys.
"Let me know when she's with you," Harry said, moving back towards the boys.
"She'll be alright," Louis said, reassuring Harry, but Harry couldn't help but worry and wonder if he had done the right thing by letting someone else go and look for her.
***
Dante threw Sofia down in a wooden chair; several men were sitting around a warehouse that she didn't recognize.
"Where is she?" Dante hissed.
"Who?" Sofia asked.
Dante raised his hand and backhanded Sofia hard.
"Don't fucking play with me bitch," Dante growled, "Tell me where Chelsea is..."
"If you took me trying to get answers," Sofia hissed, looking up at him, "You took the wrong girl. I'm not scared of you, and I'm not a rat."
"No," Dante said, shaking his head, and laughing, "I took the right girl. Because you are the shining diamond. I see the way they all look at you, the way they all protect you, and they'd do anything to keep you safe. I'm betting they'll have no problem making the trade..."
"They'll kill you," Sofia growled, "They'll kill you before they ever think about making a deal with you..."
Dante hit her again, hard. Sofia hissed, before wiping the blood that was now coming from her mouth.
"Are you sure about that?" Dante asked, "Because I think they'd do anything to you keep you alive."
"What do you want with her anyway?" Sofia barked, "She can't help you. We wiped you out. You're done."
"She needs to pay!" Dante roared, grabbing Sofia's throat, "And I'm not done."
"I'm not telling you shit," Sofia hissed, her breath catching as Dante's hand got tighter.
"It's a shame," Dante said, "A smart girl like you, with so much potential. I was hoping to hand you over alive."
Sofia watched as he pulled out his gun, and her heart stopped as he pointed it to her head.
"But you're a little too mouthy," Dante growled, "So maybe I just tell them you're alive, and hand them back pieces of your body. Unless of course, you'd like to tell me what I want to know, then we all walk away alive, and satisfied."
"I don't know where she is," Sofia lied, trying to ignore the gun pointed at her head.
"Come on, darling," Dante said, crouching down, "You can do better then that. I've spent weeks looking for her, and that backstabbing bitch Perrie. That must've been hard, knowing that one of your own sold you out. I see you got rid of her. Just like I'll get rid of Chelsea..."
"You're not gonna lay a hand on that girl," Sofia spat out, her eyes narrowed in anger.
"Is she really worth your life?" Dante growled, "I mean, think about it. Is she really worth dying over?"
"They're gonna know I'm missing, they're gonna come for you," Sofia hissed.
"Yeah, maybe," Dante said, a smug look on his face, "But will they find you? That's the real question."
"She's not gonna talk," one the men said, "Just shut her up for good and show them how we do things."
Dante looked at Sofia, almost like she was giving her one last chance to say something. Sofia looked at the floor, giving him her answer. She wasn't a rat. Even if that meant dying with a closed mouth.
"You stupid girl," Dante hissed, she heard him cock his gun, and then, without hesitation, she brought her foot up to his groin hard.
His gun went off as he groaned, grabbing himself, and she kicked him hard in the face, sending him toppling onto the floor. And then she ran.
Men were chasing after her, gunshot going off behind her, as she ran down a hallway she didn't know.
"Fucking stop her!" she heard Dante roar, as she reached the exit.
A bullet hit the wall right next to her, as she tried to get out the door, but it was locked. Sofia didn't think, she just ran into a room opposite the door, but someone grabbed her shirt. Screaming she hit him twice, as she ripped her shirt off her. He was still clawing at her neck, as she grabbed his head, slamming it into her knee.
She didn't wait to see if she had done any damage, she moved into the room, closing the door behind her and locking it. Thinking quickly, she looked around. There was nothing there to help her. She wasn't armed. She was going to die if she didn't get out. She heard them banging at the door, gunshots going off, pointed at the lock.
She noticed a small window, high above her. She quickly shoved a old mental shelf in front of the door, and climbed up on to a old bucket. Sofia turned her face from the window, and slammed her elbow into it, hissing at the pain. She bit down hard on her lip, as she slammed her elbow into it two more times, before it finally broke.
"Fucking A!" Somebody screamed, as they knocked down the shelf, moving towards the window.
Sofia launched herself out of it, but someone had grabbed her foot. She screamed, as they twisted ankle in a way it should never go, and used her other foot to kick whoever it was off her. And then without thinking about her injuries, or how high up she was, she pushed herself off of the window, yelling out in pain as she hit the ground.
Looking up from the ground, she saw men pointing guns at her. Sofia didn't think about the pain, or the blood, or the fact that she had no idea where she was, if anyone was coming for her, or how to get out. She just ran towards the woods, and hoped to God she got out of it alive.
***
Sofia couldn't run anymore, and she couldn't even see where she was running too. Her ankle was giving in to the pain, and her brain was so twisted up, she had to stop. She had to think. She held her elbow, leaning against the tree. She was out of breath, and she could hear men in the woods around her. Gunshots kept going off, and they were yelling.
"I got her," a man screamed and Sofia turned, to see him about 20 feet away.
She took off running again, gunshots aimed at her head, as she pushed past the pain, and further into the woods. She tripped over a branch, but managed to stay up right and keep moving. They were going to find her. She was going to die.
"Move!" she heard someone yell out, as she pushed her way through some bushes, hissing as the thorns clawed at her skin.
She didn't know how much she had into her. She couldn't do this. She couldn't run anymore.
Just turn around, she thought.
Put your hands up, she thought.
Just stop and surrender.
Give them what the want.
They won't kill you.
Sofia's head was fighting with her body. Her head told her to give up, and to just surrender. It was screaming at her to do what she had to do to survive, but her body kept pushing her forward. It was screaming out in pain with every step she took, but it kept going. She had to make up her mind. She had to do something. She couldn't keep running not knowing where she was going.
Suddenly, somebody grabbed her, Sofia let out a horrified scream, resisting as someone grabbed her around her hips and clamped a large hand over her mouth.
"Shhh! It's me!" Harry hissed in her ear, "Sofia! It's me!"
Sofia immediately stopped screaming, her eyes going wide as she turned and saw Harry. He pulled her behind a bunch of trees, forcing them both to the ground, his hand still clamped over her mouth. Sofia stilled as she heard voices around them. Her heart was racing, as her body was squeezed against Harry's.
She closed her eyes, hearing as men moved closer to them. Harry grew still, pulling her closer to him. Sofia moved her head so she was leaning into her shoulder, trying to become as little as she possibly could.
Both of them sighed in relief as the voices took a turn and grew further and further away.
"Harry!" Sofia cried out softly, turning to him and throwing herself into his chest.
"It's okay," Harry said, wrapping his arms around her, "I got you. You're okay. It's okay."
"How did you know?" Sofia asked, looking up.
"Emily," Harry said, "And when we got here, it was obvious all hell had broken loose. They were already in the woods. I guess you're to thank for that."
"Kind of, yeah," Sofia said.
"Bet you're glad you wore pants tonight, huh?" Harry asked, causing Sofia to glare up at him. Really? He was bringing that up now? Really?
"What do we do?" Sofia asked, not answering his question.
"I'm out of bullets," Harry said, shaking his head.
"You're out of bullets?" Sofia hissed.
"I wasn't thinking straight," Harry growled, "I just had to find you."
"Are you crazy?" Sofia hissed at him.
"Are you?" he barked quietly, "Whatever stunt you pulled, you're lucky it didn't get you killed. They have more guys then we thought they would. We gotta get to the car."
"My ankle," Sofia said, "I can't run."
Harry looked down to see Sofia standing on one foot as she held onto him. Her ankle was bruised and swollen. His eyes traveled up to her arm, which was still bleeding.
"Jesus Christ," he mumbled, closing his eyes in frustration.
"I'm okay," Sofia assured him, "I just don't think I can run."
"I'm going to kill you when we get home," Harry said, shaking his head.
"Let's just can't home," Sofia argued, glaring at him, "What do we do?"
"We can't stay here," Harry said, "We have to move. We have to get to the car."
"My ankle, Harry!" Sofia growled, "Are you even listening?"
"Of course I am," Harry snapped.
And then without a second thought, he picked her bridal style and started moving towards the direction of his car.
***
"We're almost there," Harry said, coming out to a clearing in the woods. Sofia could see the car from where they were.
"I can walk there," Sofia said, tapping his shoulder so he would let her down.
Harry placed her feet on the ground carefully, and she wrapped her arm around his neck so she could limp to the car.
"Is everyone else here?" Sofia asked
"Yeah," Harry said, "We'll find them, and we just gotta get you in the car. And out of here."
"Tell me you have extra weapons in the car," Sofia mumbled.
"Yes," Harry said, looking around as he heard a rustle in the woods. They both picked up the pace to get to the car.
"Don't. Move." A voice came, causing both of them to turn around.
Dante came out of the woods, gun in his hand, pointing it directly at Harry and Sofia. Harry immediately pushed Sofia behind him, and Sofia clung to the back of his shirt.
"Give it up, Dante," Harry barked, "We've just cleared out your men for the 2nd time."
"I know," Dante said, "But I'm still going to kill her. Even if I have to kill you first."
He directed the gun past Harry, to Sofia. She put her head down. She wasn't sure what the hell she was going to do. She couldn't let Harry get killed for her. She wouldn't.
"Okay," she said, putting her hands up, "Just relax, I'll come with you."
"Sofia," Harry hissed, putting his arm out.
"Don't be stupid," Dante said, "There's no point in you both ending up dead. Let's not get dumb now."
"Okay," Sofia agreed, trying to step forward.
"Not okay," Harry said, shoving Sofia back, so she fell to the ground, hissing in pain.
And then before she could stop him he was lunging at Dante. His gun went off as Harry tackled him to the ground, hitting him in the face.
"Harry! The gun!" Sofia yelled out, watching as Harry got off the ground, and moved towards where the gun had fallen.
But Dante grabbed his feet, causing Harry to stumble on to the ground. Dante kicked Harry twice, as Harry tried to move towards the gun again.
Sofia watched as Harry got his hands on the gun, struggling to keep his hands on it as Dante turned him around, hitting his face twice.
"HARRY!" Sofia screamed in horror, she tried to stand up to help him, but she couldn't. She couldn't put weight on her foot.
She heard Harry groan as Dante took another shot to his stomach, and grabbed Harry's arm so that Harry couldn't point the gun. Harry used his other arm to elbow Dante in the face, causing him to stumble back.
Harry used this time to point the gun in Dante's face, but Sofia watched in horror, as Dante pulled out a knife.
"Harry shoot!" Sofia yelled, but it was too late, Dante slammed his knife into Harry's ribs.
The gun went off. Sofia screamed, it was like she was watching in slow motion, as Dante slammed his knife into Harry again, and Harry's head rolled back in pain, before he pulled the trigger a 2nd time. Dante stabbed him a 3rd time, as the bullet hit his head.
Sofia let out another horrified scream, as Dante hit the ground beside Harry.
***
"Oh my God," Sofia cried out, crawling towards Harry. There was blood everywhere.
"Oh my God," Sofia hissed, throwing her hands on his body, to stop the blood. He groaned in pain.
"I'm sorry," Sofia cried out, "Oh God. I'm so sorry."
Her mind was reeling; she couldn't even see straight, all she could see was blood and his face contorted in pain.
"Sofia –" Harry mumbled, he was trying to keep his voice calm, but it came out as weak. He was loosing a lot of blood.
"Don't speak, its not even that bad," Sofia said, shaking her head, "It's not even that bad... I promise..."
She just needed to turn her brain off; she had to
concentrate on the blood and the wounds. But she couldn't. Her mind was spinning, and she couldn't stop it.
I don't buy the act, Harry told her.
Is this the Payne house, the police officer asked.
We're the only ones left, Liam said.
Why are you so determined to keep me out, Harry asked.
"It's not even that bad," she repeated, as Harry groaned again in pain. How could there be this much blood?
"You're a terrible liar," Harry growled, "I hate when you lie to me."
"Stop talking," Sofia barked, but the tears were rolling down her cheeks faster, "Save your energy. You're going to be fine."
She watched as Harry's head rolled to the side, a sob coming from her as she pressed down on his wounds. His eyes were starting to close.
"Don't you dare!" she shrieked, causing his eyes to fly open, "Stay with me!"
I'm tricking the trickster, Harry said.
I don't think you need to be fixed.
You don't know how strong you really are.
Does this mean we're friends?
I want your secrets.
"It's gonna be okay, Sofa," Harry said, his voice weak and ragged. His hand moved on top of hers, as his head moved to the side, his eyes getting heavy.
"Harry!" She shrieked, shaking him. He didn't budge, and his eyes weren't opening.
'HELP!" she screamed, she didn't care if the wrong person heard her. She couldn't get him up by herself; she needed someone to come save him.
"HELP ME!" she screamed loudly, trying to stop the blood, sobs coming from her mouth and tears pouring down her face, "SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
I didn't want to know; it was going to change everything.
Can't deny that I want you.
Something's different, isn't it?
I'm not leaving you.
I can't lose you.
"OH GOD! PLEASE! HELP! HELP ME!" she screamed. She just kept screaming over his body. He wasn't moving, "SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
"Sofia!" she felt someone grab her.
"HELP ME!"
"Holy shit."
"SOMEBODY HELP ME!"
Someone was trying to pull her away from Harry, Sofia turned to see Niall. Louis shoved in front of her to try and help with the bleeding, moving her bloodstained hands away from his.
Fuck it.
I want you.
I can't love somebody like that again.
I won't survive it.
"We gotta get him out of here," Liam said.
Sofia was still screaming and crying, it was like she didn't even notice they had shown up to help.
"Sofia," Niall said, "It's alright."
"HELP ME!" she cried out, "HELP!"
You're mine.
I know it.
They know it.
Someday you'll know it.
"We gotta get him outta here!" Louis said.
"Count of three," Zany said, trying to grip Harry's shoulder.
"NO!" Sofia screamed, throwing herself on top his body, "You cant! You can't!"
"Sofia, he needs a hospital," Louis said, as Niall tried to pull her away.
"You can't take him, I can't lose him!" she screamed, as Niall tried to calm her down and shush her.
"We need to get him help!" Liam barked, grabbing his sister, and shaking her a bit.
"I can't lose him!" she screamed, sobs wracking her entire body.
"We gotta get him outta here," Zayn said, Louis and him picking Harry's body up, as Sofia let out another scream.
"He's mine!" she cried out, "I can't lose him, he's mine! He's mine!"
Liam wrapped his sister in his arms, as she collapsed barely able to hold herself up.
"He's mine," she cried into his shoulder.
"We gotta go, Sof, We have to go." Liam said, but she wasn't even coherent, she wasn't hearing anything he was saying.
"I can't loose him," she sobbed again, "He's mine."
Looking back, if you asked her. That was the moment she realized how in love with him she was. The moment she was going to lose him.
She reached up to her neck; she wanted to feel his paper airplane in her fingers. She just wanted to feel any piece of him.
The airplane was gone. Sofia let out another sob.
It was gone. He was gone. Everything she said was going to happen was happening.
It was happening again.
And just like that, her heart broke all over again.
