"Yes, sir." I gulped."Were you eavesdropping, Ms. Thompson?"
"No, sir," I bowed my head, the lie easily slipping past my lips. "I was simply walking up to the door when you opened it." I briefly caught a glimpse at the tall man stood before me. Sharp jaw, piercing brown eyes and eyebrows so perfectly shaped that I envied him. "Without knocking, might I add,"
"Yes I'm sorr-" Mr. Cruise began to apologize but Mr. Knight cut him off. At least Mr. Cruise respected my privacy.
"And where were you going?" Mr. Knight didn't sound very convinced. I stared down at his shiny black shoes and wracked my brain for an excuse. Everything about him just screamed rich. Yet, who wasn't rich at this school? This was a prestigious boarding school. Girls were apparently lucky to have attended here. I wasn't so sure I was grateful about that. Public school sounded pretty great to me at the moment.
"The restroom, sir." My head stayed lowered to the ground and my body remained utterly still. I clasped my hands together tightly, feeling them begin to shake. I silently prayed he would believe me, but I had a bad feeling he wouldn't. My bad feelings were usually right.
"Oh, I'm sure," he retorted, sarcasm thick in his voice. My head snapped up and my narrowed eyes met his in a challenge. This man was pissing me off already, and I had only known him for a few minutes. First, he made a commotion in the hall and fired the principal I actually liked. And second, he stormed into my room without knocking, something that is completely rude and unacceptable especially since I was a girl. I could have been changing my clothes or just lying naked on the bed. I was in the safety of my own room, yet I didn't feel safe at all.
I couldn't keep my mouth shut any longer. "Excuse m-"
"I don't want any excuses," He held a hand up, cutting me off. My jaw dropped as I stared up into his narrowed eyes. Excuses? I was certainly not giving that prick an excuse. I was so close to snapping. I was on my very last nerve and when he turned a cocky smirk to me, I snapped.
"I wasn't fucki-" I spoke again and was interrupted before I could finish. Why was this man so ignorant? It was really hitting a nerve.
"WHAT was that?" His voice raised and he took a threatening step towards me. He cupped his hand around his ear in mockery. His broad figure loomed over me as his face slowly approached mine. Mr. Cruise was lingering silently on the sidelines. That was the best place he could be. I couldn't blame him. If I were in his situation I wouldn't be interrupting either.
"I was saying-" I tried again, not shutting up when I should have. Like I've said before, I had a big mouth sometimes, and most times it was hard to keep shut.
This was one of those times.
"Is she really still talking to me?" He turned his head towards Mr. Cruise who was staring at both of us with wide eyes. I didn't understand why he wouldn't say anything. He was already fired. If it were me, I'd give Mr. Knight a piece of my mind. I felt my blood begin to boil with rage. This rude excuse of a man was going to be my new principal? No thank you.
"She has a name. And did you seriously just turn away from me when I was speaking to you?!" I asked incredulously. "You said that I'm disrespectful and you need to teach these little delinquents how to behave, yet, here you are showing me zero respect."
