"You're literally glowing." Bella stated as we walked across campus towards our math class. It was Monday and I was perfectly rested for once, which was a surprise. I felt drained on Sunday because of Lucky's feeding, but today I felt energized. Ever since the feeding his touch had been more powerful than it was before. If he wanted to, he could touch my arm and it would send pleasure through me. He was getting more powerful. I spent the full weekend with him and got to know him even better. I wished he'd talk about his family and friends more, but I understood why he didn't. "Did lover boy sneak over again?" Bella raised her eyebrows suspiciously.
"No, Bella." I sighed. "Can you please just let it go?" As I turned my head to look at her in annoyance, I saw something colourful flash out of the corner of my eye. I turned around and my jaw dropped to the ground as I watched the tall girl approach me and Bella. Her once long brown hair had been chopped off and was now a pale shade of pink that rested on her shoulders. Her once slightly chubby body was now unhealthily skinny and her cheeks were slightly hallowed. I now knew why Bella had said she didn't look okay physically. The only way I would have recognized her was her eyes. Her icy blue eyes.
"No way!" Bella breathed from beside me as we stared at her in awe. Walking beside her was a tall man with dark sunglasses covering his eyes. He was wearing dark jeans and a black leather jacket. He looked to be in his early twenties with a thick mane of black hair.
"Is that Blair?!" I exclaimed quietly as the two headed straight towards us. My heart hammered in my chest with each step they took. Why were they coming our way? Bella had said that she heard Blair was moving back to Clairmount. I had hoped it was just a rumour. We turned our backs to the couple approaching us.
"Should we run?" Bella suggested as she clung her math book to her chest. I considered the idea. It would be by far the easiest solution, but they were too close now. There was no escaping this one.
"No. And please try not to be rude," I gave her a warning look and she put her hands up defensively.
"Hey, I know what the girl has been through. More than most people," She gave me a sad look and my expression turned solemn. "But if she's a bitch to me, you better hope that man is her bodyguard." She crossed her arms over her chest and we turned around as we heard someone clear their throat.
Stood directly in front of me was the tall man. He was staring down at me with curiosity and I had to tilt my head back to look at him. I swallowed sharply at the short distance between us, and I took a step back. "Bella." Blair's high pitched voice said in greeting, completely void of emotion. She then turned to me and forced a smile on her face. "Oh, Brielle." she gasped, but even that action looked fake. "You look good. Are you finally on a diet, honey?"
Her words stabbed at my heart and made me gasp, Bella quickly following after. My face flushed in embarrassment at her rudeness. I used to be a little bigger than I was now but I was never fat per say. I hated that word. I mainly got rid of the extra weight through puberty. It wasn't like I was trying to get skinner. I was pretty happy with my body the way it was, and Lucky was a big part of that. My eyes flicked up to the quiet man and found that he was staring at me with furrowed eyebrows, an almost embarrassed look on his face. That confused me. It wasn't like he was the one getting bitched at. Bella was fuming from beside me and I knew I had to say something before she'd blow.
"Diet?" I laughed, shaking off her remark. "No. I don't need to constrict myself from eating just to feel good about myself. I'm happy the way I am." I informed her politely, not wanting to stoop down to her level.
