The closer I got to Emily's house, the more anxious I got. My "date" was now over and my plan went perfectly. I was able to find out the name of my stalker, Raye Penber, and now I just had to put the rest of my plan in action, but I had to wait a couple of days. I had to think things over carefully before I made another move.

I heard Ryuk chuckle beside me, causing me to look at him. "Someone's worried." He said. "Kira's actually worried about someone other than himself."

I sighed in frustration. "Emily has been my friend for many years." I told him. "I just want to make sure she's okay."

He laughed again, my answer amusing him. "Well, I think you're worried because you like her. Tell me, Light, was that part of your plan too? Falling in love with the American girl?" He asked.

"Ryuk, I have not fallen in love at all, let alone fallen in love with Emily." I responded. "Love is not in Kira's future." I said right as we reached Emily's house.

I knocked on the door and waited for a few minutes, but nobody answered. "Emily?" I called out, but I got the same results. I sighed heavily before deciding to get the spare key she kept outside. I turned myself towards the rosebushes that were planted near the front door and stuck my fingers inside the petals of the rose that was not fully in bloom, finding the key inside it. I grabbed the key, opened my hand to reveal it, and stared it.

"How did you know where the key was?" I heard Ryuk ask, immediately taking me back to a certain memory...

"Oh man." Emily grumbled as she searched desperately through her bookbag. "I forgot my keys." She told me, her hand still digging through her bag. Emily had asked me to come over afterschool and help her review for the exam on Monday. I knew she didn't need my help—she was extremely intelligent and right behind me when it came to the top students in the class—but I knew she was mostly home alone, and maybe she didn't want to be home alone today, even if it was just for a little while. So, I accepted her invitation and after class, we walked together to her house.

However, here we were now, in front of her house, and she couldn't find her keys. I couldn't help but smile slightly as Emily dug through her bag. She looked rather cute when she was embarrassed.

"If you want, we can study at my house, Emily." I told her. "You don't have to worry about it."

She looked at me and smiled softly. "Thanks, but don't worry. I keep a spare out here." She said before grabbing my hand and taking me the rosebushes that were planted near the front door. She turned her head to me, her smile growing before looking down at the roses and putting her fingers inside one of them. Then, shortly after, she pulled out the spare key to her house. "Ta da." She sang before she giggled and opened the door to her house.

We walked inside the house and she closed the door behind me before we took off our shoes. "Why do you put the spare key in a rose?" I asked her as I removed my blazer and loosened my tie.

She smiled at me as she too removed her blazer. "No one ever looks inside a rose to look for a spare key. Besides, I always put the key in a rose that is not fully bloomed, so the petals can hide it better." She answered simply before her eyes softened. "And... my mother loved roses. Well, that's what my father told me at least. Apparently, they made her really happy. So happy that she wanted to name me Rose." She giggled, shaking her head. "But in the end, she decided to make it my middle name: Emily Rose Johnson."

My eyes softened at her, a slight frown on my lips. We never really talked about her mother. She just told me her mother died giving birth and that was it. So I was a little shocked to hear her opening up to me and trusting me with such personal information, especially because we only knew each other for a little over five months at this point.
