"Oh god." I groaned as I opened my eyes. I had just woken up from my slumber and I had a huge hangover! My head was thumping uncontrollably and I felt sick to my stomach. "Not one of your best ideas, Emily." I mumbled to myself as I sat up slowly.
I was still in my bedroom, but when I took a good look around, I noticed all the bottles I had drank were gone. Not only that, but I was tucked into my bed, under the covers. The last thing I remembered before blacking out was that I was sitting on my bed, drinking, as I stared at a picture of me and Light on my phone.
I sighed heavily, cradling my head. I can't believe I got drunk all because I was angry at Light. I thought in disbelief. But, who cleaned up my mess? Who tucked me in? Did I do that while I was drunk? I rubbed my forehead, closing my eyes. No, no one does those sorts of things when they're drunk. So, if I didn't do it, who—
"You're up." A voice I had grown to love said, making my eyes wide.
I lifted my head quickly, making me a little dizzy, and sa Light standing at my bedroom door with a glass of water in his hand. "L-Light?" I whispered, not believing he was actually here. "When did you get here?" I asked.
He walked to my bed side, giving me the glass of water, before he sat on my bed. "Yesterday, after my date." He said softly, the word 'date' hitting my heart painfully. "I got worried because you weren't answering my calls or my texts, so I came looking for you here. I used the spare key to get in, and when I came up here, you were lying in bed with alcohol around you." He looked at me, frowning. "I was really upset at what I saw."
I sighed heavily before taking a drink from my water. "Was... was I awake when you got here?" I asked hesitantly.
"Yes." He answered. "You were awake, and you were crying. You said that when I told you I couldn't come over to spend time with you, it just reminded you of how lonely you were, and you started to miss your mother. You told me you were thinking about her and wondering why God didn't take you with her, instead of leaving you here by yourself."
By now, tears were coming down my cheeks. I can't believe even while I was drunk, I was able to lie to Light...
"I said that?" I asked him as I sniffled.
He nodded, tilting his head to the side. "You really don't remember?" He asked, causing me to shake my head in response before he sighed. "Well, you did drink a lot. Emily, I was really upset to see you like that. I understand it is hard for you to be without your actual family, but I am here for you. You're my best friend and I will always be here for you. I don't want you to bottle up your emotions, okay? If you are feeling sad and you miss your mom, you can always come to me and I will listen. I'm here for you, Emily." He told me, smiling softly.
I nodded my head, returning a small smile of my own. "Thank you, Light..." I said softly. "I'm sorry you had to see me like that... being alone takes a toll on me once in a while."
"I understand." He said before getting up. "I told my mom that you were sick, so I stayed at your house to take care of you, but I should get going now."
I nodded before grabbing his hand. "Wait, Light." He raised an eyebrow at me, silently telling me to continue. "Thank you, for being such a great friend to me... you have no idea how much you mean to me."
He stared for a few seconds before pulling me towards him, his arms wrapping around me. "You don't have to thank me. You would have done the same for me. I'm your best friend, right?"
I sniffled, hugging him back. "Of course..." I whispered, wishing we were more than best friends.
After a few seconds, Light pulled away from the hug and smiled at me. "Rest, okay? You need it." He turned away and walked to my door. "See you on Monday?"
