My heart was beating faster and faster as I waited for Light at our usual spot. Today I was going with Light to his house and have dinner with his family. I was a nervous wreck! What if they didn’t like me? Or what if I do something stupid?! Oh God! I felt like I was going to throw up!
“You ready to go?” Light asked as he walked up to me. He noticed the look on my face, instantly frowning. “Hey are you okay?”
“I’m just really nervous, Light.” I admitted. “I want your family to like me.”
He gave me a warm smile, one that usually helped me calm down. “Emily, I told you, they’re going to love you. Trust me.” He reassured me as he placed a hand on my shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. It took me a while, but I finally nodded in agreement. “All right. Let’s go.”
As we walked to his house he told me all about his family. He talked about his parents and what they did for a living, then he told me about his sister Sayu. I knew Light had a sister and he would tell me about how she would make him help her with her homework. I knew he was a good big brother.
After what felt like a few seconds, we finally reached his house. We walked inside, my heart racing faster and faster. I didn’t know why I was this nervous to meet Light’s family. He was a friend of mine, not a boyfriend. So why was I acting like I was meeting my boyfriend’s parents?
“I’m home!” Light called out.
Suddenly, an older woman, who I assumed was Light’s mom, walked into the room, smiling at us. “Welcome home, Light.” She said with a big smile. She then looked at me. “Oh? And who’s this?”
“Mom, this is my friend Emily from school.” He introduced.
I bowed her in respect and smiles nervously. “It’s very nice to meet you, Mrs. Yagami. Light has told me a lot of good things about you.”
She smiled at me. “It’s nice to meet you too, dear.” She started to giggle. “Don’t be so nervous, sweetie.”
“Mom,” Light said, noticing how nervous I was. “Is it okay if Emily stays for dinner?”
“Of course it is! I would love it if she stayed!” She answered, making me calm my nerves a bit. “I’ll get started on dinner. Make yourself at home, dear.”
“Thank you very much, Mrs. Yagami.” I said with a smile. Once she went back into the kitchen, I smiled at Light. “She’s really nice.”
He nodded his head. “Let’s go to my room.” He said before we went upstairs.
“You have a nice room.” I said once we got inside.
“Thank you. It’s pretty simple though.” He replied as he sat on his desk chair while I sat on his bed.
“You do realize that if I come here often, I’m going to make your room my room, right?” I said playfully, smirking.
He rolled his eyes at me. “Women. I don’t understand them.” He said.
I smirked before walking to him, my face inches away from him. “Come on, Light. We’re not all that complicated.”
He seemed a little fazed for a few moments before he leaned a little closer. “Emily…” He mumbled. My eyes widened. Oh my god! Was he going to kiss me?! Were we really going to kiss?! Before his lips could meet mine, there was a knock on his bedroom door.
“Light! Can you help me with my homework again?” It was his sister, Sayu.
“Yeah. Just a second, Sayu.” Light responded. I quickly got up from my spot and sat down on Light’s bed like before. He got up and opened the door. “All right, what do you need help on?”
