I do not pretend to understand how or what moment my heart ceased to be my own. All I know is that every smile that graces your lips, and each time you tenderly take my hand, you unlock something buried.
It's a city, but the world is quiet here. The street lamps illuminate the rain drops on the sidewalk. Main Street is lined with buildings shaped in stone boxes, but still they have life. They have stories.
The world is quiet here, but it's alive.
This isn't the type of alive in Los Angeles; those busy streets and sidewalks filled with people and music and food, the streets where MacKenzie would shamelessly take Roy's hand and pull him wherever she found something interesting, her smile brighter than the sun, her eyes the size of the moon.
These streets are quiet, dark besides the street lamps, and while MacKenzie grabs Roy's hand and pulls him wherever she finds something interesting, her smile is brighter than the moon and her eyes are the size of the sun.
Void of people and sound but the two of them and their reflections in the windows of closed shops and occupied apartments.
The moonlight gave MacKenzie's fair skin an ethereal glow. The drizzle dampened her hair, and occasionally she would turn around to face Roy and smile.
You're so special. It's near 3 am. We need to find a place to sleep. I don't want to go to sleep. I want to look at you forever.
"The rain stopped," MacKenzie said, about to sit down on a bench. Drenched in rain. Roy put his arms around her waist and pulled her onto his lap and she laughed, nuzzling her face in his neck.
I need to take care of you.
"I'm sorry if I've ever done anything to make you feel like you didn't deserve happiness."
"I'm not stupid, Roy Walker. I know you say a lot of things you don't mean."
"I mean it."
"I know you say a lot of things you mean."
"You know a lot of things, don't you."
"I know a lot of things."
Roy squeezed her hand. "Marry me."
MacKenzie froze, pulling away from Roy. Her brow furrowed.
Roy held her face in his hands. "Marry me."
She swallowed heavily, jaw clenched.
"Did y'hear what I just said," Roy said quietly.
MacKenzie nodded.
"Marry me," Roy repeated.
"Okay," she responded as tears streamed down her face.
Roy knew this was all he could do to make her happy.
