1977

The following morning Lily sent a note to Snape during breakfast requesting to speak with him. She sat nervously at the Gryffindor table and continued to glance at the Slytherin table in anticipation.

Aurora was the only one to notice Lily's obvious nervousness however as Remus, Peter and Marlene were still oblivious to the events of the previous night, and James and Sirius were far too giddy to focus on anything.

"What's got you two so riled up this morning?" Marlene asked suspiciously, pouring herself a bowl of cornflakes.

"Nothing, we're just so thankful for this day!" Sirius replied, he and James both bouncing their knees up and down like excitable children and giggling between themselves.

"You're definitely acting suspicious." Remus noted, sipping his goblet of pumpkin juice.

"I am wounded you think so lowly of us, Moony." James gasped, gripping one of Sirius's hands with his and placing the other over his heart in mock horror.

"Personal experience, I guess." Peter mused, eying the two boys off. They simply responded by whispering something to each other and giggling again.

"You two are acting like teenage girls would you just spit it out?" Marlene asked in exasperation.

"We know you're both dying to tell us so just get on with it." Remus agreed, raising an eyebrow. Sirius and James huddled together once more and continued whispering, while Aurora shot them warnings with her eyes and Lily kicked James under the table.

The three unsuspecting Gryffindor's eyed James and Sirius for a moment, as if daring them to speak. James and Sirius met the prying eyes and attempted to match the steely determination but their resolve was visibly waning.

"Lily snogged James!" Sirius suddenly hollered in a moment of weakness, immediately clapping a hand over his mouth once he realised what he had done. It also just happened that Sirius's moment of weakness occurred in a lull in all conversations, his voice echoing throughout the Great Hall.

Lily's eyes widened in horror as she made eye contact with Snape who had just received her note. The greasy Slytherin made a point of ripping the note into tiny pieces, glaring daggers at both Lily and James, before storming out of the hall. Lily shot a quick glare at Sirius before chasing after him.

"Well you've really done it now." Aurora snapped, gathering her own things along with Lily's and following her friend from the hall.

In the meantime, the initial shock of Sirius's outburst had subsided and now the rest of the group were firing off probing questions at James.

Aurora ran quickly from the hall in an attempt to catch Lily. She spotted the red head weaving quickly through the throngs of people in the hallways and sped up to try and catch her.

"Lily! Wait up!" Aurora called out once Lily was in earshot. Lily either didn't hear Aurora or chose to ignore her however as she powered through the crowds.

Aurora gave up on catching her friend and instead chose to simply follow her to see if she was alright. Lily finally peeled off from the crowd after a couple of minutes and headed towards the main courtyard. It was only once the two girls, still separated by a few yards, were in the open space that Aurora noticed Lily was trailing Snape.

Despite his earlier display of anger, Snape had obviously agreed wordlessly to talk with Lily as he was sitting patiently under the tree the two of them used to sit under. Lily approached apprehensively and cleared her throat, alerting Snape to her presence. Aurora attempted to stay as discreet as possible whilst still remaining in earshot of their conversation.
