1977
At first, Aurora was taken aback by what Remus had said; of course he meant something to her. She loved Remus, he meant the world to her. His ominous parting words left Aurora baffled and feeling even more lost than ever. She didn't care what he was. The part of him that came out every month wasn't his fault. It wasn't his choice and she knew he hated himself for it but it was out of his control. He was a werewolf, but it didn't define him in her eyes. Apparently that wasn't enough for Remus however, who had already decided.
After she realised her pleading was in vain, Aurora fled the hospital wing still wrapped in Remus's quilt, running past James and Peter who had been waiting outside. She kept her head low and didn't look up until she reached the edge of the Black Lake. She wrapped the quilt tightly around her body and was engulfed in Remus's scent. Suddenly the once comforting smell became suffocating and she discarded the blanket onto the damp grass beside her. It was freezing outside but Aurora didn't care, sitting down on the dewy green blades beneath a large tree and staring out at the still waters. She felt empty.
It just so happened that Sirius had been raiding the kitchens while Aurora and Remus broke up, so he arrived back at the hospital wing without the knowledge that the two were no longer together. He entered with tray full of the boy's favourite foods and was surprised to find Remus alone.
"Where have the others gone? Actually, I'm glad to have you alone," Sirius began, setting the tray down in front of Remus who continued to stare out the window.
"I spoke with Rory and explained everything and she was so understanding of it all. You're really lucky to have her, Moony. She's a really special girl and," he paused, unsure if he could continue, "you two are good for each other. You make each other happy." It hurt to admit but Sirius knew it was true and he had to let Aurora go sooner rather than later.
Remus remained quiet.
"Just know that if you hurt her I will kill you." Sirius joked, attempting to get some sort of reaction out of Remus.
"Well you might as well smother me now." Remus snapped back, rolling over in his bed and facing his back to Sirius.
"What do you mean?" Sirius furrowed his brow, only now noticing the thin gold band Remus gave Aurora for Christmas balancing precariously on the table beside the hospital bed. The tiny diamond glinted in the sunlight that shone through the windows, like a single tear drop, poised on the brink of falling.
"I broke up with Rory." Remus mumbled grumpily, quite clearly not in the mood to discuss the matter with anyone.
This statement resonated within Sirius and he felt an odd mix of relief, happiness and guilt. He hated that he was happy they were no longer together, especially after he just admitted aloud that they were good for each other. But he couldn't help it. The selfish side of Sirius wanted Aurora to himself, and now he was one step closer.
"What? Why?"
"I don't want to talk about it Sirius, can you please just leave?"
Sirius nodded silently, exiting the hospital wing.

The story Remus and Aurora told everyone was that they got really drunk on her birthday and had a massive fight. It explained why the two of them were such messes the next morning and meant that they could easily just respond with 'I don't want to talk about it' whenever they were questioned. It was the perfect cover.
