Part 4: Is this just in my head?

I woke up in the morning to my stomach aching. I had slid the necklace around my neck before going to be that night. The thing still shined on around my neck.

Where am I again?

I sat up and straightened the necklace and its chain. My mind cleared up and I got up to shower and dress with what I had. A striped grey and navy shirt and jean shorts. The little I had only went on for so long so I didn't use a lot of soap. The clothes, I washed sometimes. Most of the clothes were taken and washed by Evan when his father was gone and he was locked alone inside. But sometimes, they weren't the same clothes he brought back. Even rarely when his father was out, he didn't ever notice. Because he was with me.

His father. What he could do to us. The memories of what had happened the night before finally flooded into my head. I had no idea how I could have slept with all of that on my mind.

My stomach growled again and I sat on my bed. My raido clock blinked with the exact time 10:00 a.m. Evan most of the time had brought my food by then. Where was he?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I complained about my stomach in my mind until noon. Lunch. What was up? I wanted to call Evan's name, but that could get me killed. Or even Evan. I did not want that. I felt like my stomach was eating itself as I sat their helplessly. I couldn't really do anything but wait and wonder about where Evan was and try to even keep my mind off of it. Hunger was distracting, that was for sure. But it felt like forever until Evan never came.
It came to 3:10 p.m.  that I couldn't take the pain anymore. I looked at the door. I had never tried opening the brown, thin-looking, wooden door. I had always thought it was locked in because they didn't want me to get out.
I got up and crept to the door. The doorknob turned with ease and it opened. I looked down the halls. Empty, but the hallway was longer than I thought of it.
I took my chances and stepped into the silence. The floor was carpeted and the walls were a creamy-brown color, giving it an even weirder feel. I walked down the hall. It was long and completely empty. It was just eerie and down right unsettling. I had realized I was at the very end of the hall so the walk was agonizing. And to think that Evan walked down this hall to see me. But for all I new was that he slept in the room right across from mine. The air froze me, the creepy feelings of each door I passed and the fact that the whole house was cold. I reached the end of the hall and climbed the steps before me. I thought I was basically killing myself.
"So who do you want?" asked the deep voice I had heard when Evan was pushed into my room. R?
"Cassie Mitchell." Evan's voice said. "I think I love her."
I nearly had a heart attack but came to the door that the stairs lead to. But all it was was my heart racing quickly with near panic. I listened through the cracked open door. It looked the same as my own bedroom door, thin and dark-wooded.
"But there were so many others! She is just a spoiled girl. There was Olivia, and Corella, and Macy."
"Cassie."
What were those girls? There were others?
"She's the newest one I've captured. And you pick the newbie?" the deep voice said.
"I don't care, Dad. She's the one I want."
"You realize I have to kill all 35 of those girls."
"Number 36 is who I want, Dad. Cassandra Mitchell."
What the hell was going on? Killing 35 girls?
"Yes then. Let's call in Number 1."
Footsteps started to the door and away from the door. Mine. I ran down the stairs the fastest I ever had.
Evan came down and I watched him go into the first room. I was hidden in a separate hallway that connected to the original hall. He came out with a beautiful blond girl. She was gorgeous compared to my dull, wet brown hair and hazel eyes.
"What is wrong, Evan?" she asked in a sweet voice. So innocent. The girl seemed too good and pure to having to be covered in her own blood. And the sad thing was was that the boy they go too know was taking them to the sweet death that they didn't even want right then.
"I really want you to meet my father." The lying look in Evan's eyes killed me like his father was going to kill her. This is happening too fast!
Evan guided the pretty girl up the stairs. I wanted to run after him and save the girl but I wanted to save my own life as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The girl's screams startled no one but me. I wonder if the waiting 34 girls heard anything. I sure did hear it. It was just unsettling. I felt my stomach turn in discomfort. Guilt and fear crept into my body. I didn't want this but I had no idea how to stop it.

When I pulled myself up, Evan was coming down the hall to get Number 2, another blond girl but not as beautiful as the one before.

Maybe his father kept getting blonds and finally got a brunette to make him happy.

He held her hand as they walked to the stairs. The blond moved very gracefully. She was just another girl whose life was being taken for no reason. Poor girl. Not another one.

I stood there until he got to Number 5. I just really couldn't move anymore. My body felt almost numb. The cold was killing me and this was too heartbreaking and guiltful.

"Psst!" a door was cracked open. I looked immediately to it and hoped to find everyone's escape inside.
