Sawyer saw Malik's bloody body, his future wife Rose sobbing over it.
"He did it because of me Sawyer, all because of me. I pushed him away and he put himself in pain because of me," she cried out.
All he could do was stare at his brother in horror, before his doctor instincts snapped into place and he rushed into action. Rushing to Malik's side he immediately started tending to the wounds, only to watch the blood spread. As this happened Rose only became more frantic.
Sawyer felt panic and fear fill him as the heart monitor started to slow down. "No brother I refuse to let you die as well," he cried out.
"To late"
A sudden rush pulled him into a dark room. Sawyer immediately recognized Malik's office. Why was he here? He turned to see Malik sitting in the corner his eyes blank a bloody knife in his hands.
The sight of it made his stomach lurch in horror for the second time. "Malik what...what are you doing?" Sawyer asked, his voice barley a whisper.
"It's the knife of never letting go brother. Never.....let......go," Malik whispered running the knife up the entire length of his arm, cutting down to the bone.
"I could only cause Rose pain, I hurt her. I don't know how, but now I shall suffer for the rest of my life because of it," Malik hissed.
"Malik," Sawyer choked out looking at his twin in shock. This wasn't Malik, maybe once but not now.
He watched as Malik held up his now blood stained arm. "You couldn't save her, never forget that. Never let go," Malik said advancing on Sawyer. He slid the knife into his brother's hand, before leaning in again.
"Remember Sawyer, it's the knife of never letting go," Malik whispered, before disappearing and being replaced by a familiar face.
"Emily," was the only word Sawyer could say as his heart was shattered and its pieces were spread across the globe.
She just looked at him with a calm look on her face. "You saved our son, but not me. You said that you loved me Sawyer, and you don't let those you love die." she said to him. Her voice neither angry nor calm. Which made it all the worse.
"Emily I tried, I swear it. I swear I tried, I'm sorry, so so sorry." He cried out, falling to his knees and dropping the knife beside him.
She crouched beside him, and picked up the knife slowly. Looking as the moo. light glinted off of it. "It's so beautiful, just as our family once was." she said.
Sawyer just looked at her with dull eyes. "Fix this Sawyer, you know how to," she said putting the knife once more back into his hand. "Never let go," was as that was said before Emily to was gone.
He put the life against he wrist calmly and a small red line appeared. So red it could have been the sun on the horizon. Once Sawyer started he couldn't stop and he kept cutting until there was nothing left of him.
*Real Life*
Sawyer woke with a start, sitting right up in his bed. Sweating hard he laid back down and ran a quick hand through his hair. It was soaked.
The unwelcome dream came rushing back into his mind. He had many dreams like that, but never anything that real.
Almost as though controlled by an outside force Sawyer made his way to the kitchen. Slowly he found what he was looking for.
It's beautiful handle perfectly fit into his hand, and the way the moonlight shine on the reflection of the blade. The knife was one of a kind.
"The knife of never letting go, I get it now." he whispered, laying the blade on his wrist. He pressed hard enough for a small trickle of blood to come out. Just like the dream.
Sawyer was about to press harder when a voice stopped him. "Daddy, what are you cooking, it's still dark out," said Ben. Sawyer felt his heart melt and dropped the knife in shock.
"What was I about to do?" he thought, before looking back to his son. "Sorry Benny I was just coming down here for a quick snack." he said.
He watched as Ben came up and hugged his leg. "Alright Daddy, I just came to check on you. " he said sweetly.
Sawyer sighed and picked up Ben with his good arm, and putting the toddler back to sleep. Before walking to bathroom and cleaning the cut. He had to smile as he put on a Power Ranger's band-aid. Ben's favorite.
Getting back into bed slowly he thought about what he had almost done. Ben had saved his life, and Sawyer didn't want to think of what would have happened if his son hadn't stepped in.
One thing was certain, he wouldn't be getting anymore sleep tonight.
