Sawyer sat in his office in the veterans hospital checking over some paperwork. The events of the night before hanging over his shoulder like a cloud.
He hadn't had dreams like that in about a year. So that meant it was either the alcohol or the girl they found. The one that had seemed to stare into his soul with her light eyes. A knock at his door drew him out of thought.
"Please come in," he said opening his laptop to make look like he had been doing something other than sit and stare at a wall.
Sawyer was shocked to see one of his old patients walk in. "Charlie, you look really well." he said standing to greet the man.
The Navy SEAL raised his eyebrow. "Malik told me that you weren't doing to well yourself," the man said. To Sawyer's great relief he said nothing about Emily.
"Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Anyways you've just saved me from answering a plethora of emails," Sawyer said smiling. A fake smile as always.
"You said that to me when I came in after being shot. Anyways I came to bye, and to tell you that the girl you brought in last night is asking for you," he said raiding an eyebrow.
Sawyer instantly knew he was asking if the girl was his girlfriend. "Oh God no, I'd never," he said with a small laugh.
"Alright same old Saywer, stay safe. I mean it Sawyer I remember what you were involved in. The things you did for those people," Charlie said his voice getting colder yet softer and the same time.
"I get it, see you around Charlie," Sawyer replied walking his friend out before sitting back down at his computer. The familiar ding alerting to him of an email sounded.
He looked up slowly, seeing who it was from made his blood freeze. Had Charlie known something. Opening the email quickly he read.
Dear Mr. Briggs,
OK would like you to start preparing. We warned you. Payback is now.
Sincerely,
C.J.
Sawyer stood up slamming his laptop closed. The familiar anger built up again, but nonetheless he still had work to do.
Walking to the girl's room he opened the door to be greeted by the same insanley bright eyes. So bright, not even the brightest star could compare.
"Hello Dr. Briggs," she said in a quiet voice, that sounded scared and unconfident. But he couldn't talk, he felt paralyzed. The way she made him nervous, why was it? He felt like a damn love struck high schooler again.
"Hello dear. I see you already know my name and that's good. Anyhow we found you last night, alone on the street and brought you here. After some tests, we think you may have demensia. Caused by trauma likely, as from what we can tell you didn't come from a vey nice place," he said slowly.
She just nodded, he didn't excpect her to say anything anyways. "Can you at least remember your name?" he asked.
And she nodded again. "Cecilia," where the words spoken so quietly he had to lean in to hear them.
"Beautiful," he whispered, then seeing her reaction he got scared. "I was talking about your test result. You have beautiful vitals," Sawyer said quickly to cover up his mistake.
All she did was nod, her gaze trained on the place he had cut himself. Sawyer had taken the band-aid off, knowing that air would help it heal more quickly.
"I cut myself on my car yesterday," he said sheepishly, trying to make up an excuse. Even though he could sense that she knew what it really was.
"Anyways Cecilia I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow," he said leaving. The second he was outside Sawyer released the breath he had been holding. How did she do it? How did she somehow get all the information she needed out of him without even asking.
Shaking his head, Sawyer walked to his office and gathered his things , he was leaving early. After all he still had three hours till he would need to pick up Ben from school.
__________
After a short drive home, Sawyer had gathered all that he needed, before walking down the basement. A room that had remained locked in his house for the last two years.
Turning on the lights Sawyer was relieved to see that scrubbing was still in the perfect order he had left it in. Grabbing the long kings in his hand he threw it quickly. Wincing as it landed bullseye in the target with a sickening thump.
After about two hours all of he target where covered with silver knives. Every single one buried into the bullseye. As well as the three targets now filled to the max with bullet holes.
He was ready.
