I drifted in and out of consciousness. Darkness surrounded me and numbness was my only comfort. Unfamiliar voices talked around me but I recognized some of them. I heard Dumbledore, uncle Remus, Dora and aunt Andromeda. My uncle seemed to never leave my side that is, until his voice totally disappeared. I guess it was the full moon then. I don't know what Potion they gave me, but it eased the pain. I no longer wanted to scream. Finally one day I woke up.
My uncle was there looking distraught and weary. He didn't notice I was awake.
"You look terrible." I said my voice croaky. He turned sharply and seeing me awake he engulfed me in a hug.
"Oh Miley, I thought... Merlin you are okay?" he was hurting me but I let him have his moment before wincing. "Sorry, does it hurt much?"
"Way better than before. I feel great!" I said attempting a smile.
"She's awake mum! Come see!" This time I was ready for the bear hug as Dora sped toward me. "Oh Miley I was so worried." she was crying and so was aunt Andromeda behind her. Great, I hated it when older people cried.
We talked for a while before I asked "So when am I going to be discharged?"
"I don't know, I'll call the Healer and have him check you up." my uncle said standing up.
"He looks really terrible without me looking after him. Poor guy." Andromeda laughed when I said this.
"What? Whats funny?" I asked.
Dora smiled. "You wouldn't be so concerned about Remus' appearance if you could see yourself." she said. I freaked out.
"What? I look terrible? Oh no, my face. Get me a mirror please. Please Do-" but before I could finish uncle Remus returned with the healer. A very young handsome healer. And my face probably looked like a ragged sack of potatoes.
"Miss Black, you gave us all a scare I must say. But look at you now! All better." He did the check up very fast. "Hmm, you heal fast Miss Black . Thank whoever saved you because I can assure you that no one would have found you alive if not for that person. His remedy was excellent. I daresay we can release you as soon as the Aurors and Daily Prophet are done with you...But walking will be difficult because the most damage happened to your legs, you will need a floating chair." he told me.
"Daily Prophet? Aurors?" I asked.
"Yes. We need to know how much you remember. Of course, you will be paid for the article."Dora said.
Oh my goodness! I would be in the paper! "But not looking like this. Where's the mirror?" Healer Thomas handed it to me. My face looked terrible. "I have different colours on my face! Help me please. Remove the scars somehow. Please people can't see me like this! Do something." I tugged the healers coat. Harry couldn't see me like this. The healer looked at my uncle in amusement.
"I daresay she's healed now."
**************************
The Aurors asked me typical police questions. Did I see anyone? Could it have been Sirius who attacked me? Who saved me? Where did he take me? Unfortunately I had no answer to any of their questions.
All of them seemed convinced that my dad had set me up. I didn't know but if he had tried to kill me, all hope was lost. It was night time when I was discharged. My uncle brought me the floating chair. I hesitated because it was very elegant.
"Can we afford this?" I asked and he smiled.
"The school paid for all your expenses dear." he said as he lifted me into it. But not before I looked in the mirror. Healer Thomas had done wonders to my face. I had let him leave one burn mark around my left eye. It made me look good, I looked like a heroine.
Outside the ward, cameras flashed. I smiled. Who doesn't love attention? The Daily Prophet, Witch Weekly , The Quibbler, and Dark Oracle were all there.
"You look fantastic Miss Black. How does it feel to be back from the dead?" the Prophet reporter asked.
"Camilla please. I guess I should say I have a better outlook on life but honestly, I just want to go back to my friends and talk about stupid stuff like pranking people and all." They laughed.
"Talk about boys?" of course Witch Weekly.
"Nuh-uh my lips are sealed." I said causing smiles all round. "Is it possible that a family of Carnerotz saved you?" The Quibbler reporter asked. I wasn't the only confused one.
"Well if they did I owe them my life."
"Didn't you see the fire coming?" the Dark Oracle reporter asked. The others probably didn't understand that question but I did.
"I sensed the magnitude of the danger but I knew it wouldn't kill me."
"For someone who nearly died, you look stunning Camilla. But I wonder how does it feel knowing your father tried to kill you?" Daily Prophet reporter asked.
"There is very huge probability that it wasn't him." I answered
"You think he is innocent?"
"I can only hope. For without hope we are less than nothing."
After that I had an exclusive interview with the Daily Prophet reporter where I recounted my experiences. I would be paid lots of money for that. However I left out my Seeing ability and what happened with Rhine.
It was late when we got to Hogwarts. Madam Pomfrey and Dumbledore insisted that I sleep in the hospital wing. Tomorrow, I would see my friends again or rather what was left of them.
