Chapter 19

Time passes by quickly when you're having fun. It will be chased away by the fun and then when its gone, you feel sad, but tired, and then when your done feeling sad it will be right there, waiting for you. Like now. Last night Carol and I stayed into the pool until we were shriveled like raisins and old. We got out when the stars started to disappear and the sky got cloudy. After, we went inside and made soup while watching a movie and then got ready for bed like it was a summer night. Sadly, I have school today. Right now it is Tuesday morning, so early in the morning that the birds aren't even chirping and the sun hasn't risen over the horizon at least an inch.

I don't know why I got up so early. You would think I would sleep the whole day since I was up so late. Carol is still asleep, snoring, with Shiner, her dog, in her hands. I groan as I get out of my makeshift couch bed and crack my back. The TV is still on with Netflix on the front showing the movie from last night. It was called Safe Haven, and it was a good romance story.

Stretching, I walk around Carols house, stopping when I see an old gentleman with graying hair sitting at the breakfast bar. He's wearing a suit with an ugly tie.

"Ah, I was wondering when you would wake." I gulp and watch him, figuring this must be Carol dad.

"Erm, um...hi Mr.—" Crap! What's Carols last name? I don't know. Oh gosh. "Um, are you Carols dad?" I ask, stupidly. The man unexpectedly laughs and gets off the breakfast bar.

"As much as I would like to think so, no. I'm not Carols father. I'm her...babysitter of sorts...while her relatives who live here are on business trips. My name is Jordan Cale, but please, call me Jordan."

"Oh, hello Jordan. I'm Quinn Brent. Carols friend."

"I figured. She doesn't bring just any girl here. There's food in the fridge and coffee is made. Please, help yourself." I nod at the man as he gets up and stalks away. Oh God, he was creepy. I swallow and make myself a cup of coffee before walking up to Carols room where my new clothes are. My Sapphire glows on Carols dresser and I snatch it, immediately pulling it down my ring finger. I smile without meaning to and change into some clothes I bought yesterday. Some light washed high-waisted blue jeans, and a small belly shirt will do. I grab those and some red Chucks before getting started on my makeup. Carol and I found this new makeup pallet that has dark and mysterious colors with little gold sparkles. I had to have it.

I brush on a slight smoky eye and wing my eyes with a narrow arrow. I then put on some concealer, knowing I did the order all wrong for the makeup. I smile, satisfied, in Carols mirror and stand up to walk back downstairs, sipping my coffee. Carol wakes up as I'm passing the couch.

"What time is it?" She questions, barley containing a yawn. I shrug and glance at my phone.

"Ten before seven. Get up. We have to leave in a half an hour."

"I know. Wake me up at seven."

"Okay." I walk to the kitchen and put my dirty mug in the sink, but then end up doing the dish. I wash my hands and look in the fridge for the food Jordan told me about. I find some wraps with a chocolate pudding. This is lunch. Not breakfast. But it looks appetizing. So instead of making a disgusted face, I stuff it in my mouth, savoring the taste.
