chapter nineteen

"a lawsuit?" betty said, confused.

cheryl nodded. "we all know polly's hiding in there because she killed jason. and since you didn't admit it at your free will, the court will certainly make you under their will."

i can't believe cheryl. she has to take it as far as court. does she understand how serious court truly is? well she must of to plot a plan such as this. but something was seriously wrong with this girl.

i wanted to punch her in the face, but i needed to be decent. plus punching a girl is wrong, especially one like cheryl. i needed to control myself.

take deep breaths, only deep breaths.

"cheryl don't you think this is a little extreme?" betty asked.

cheryl shook her head. "not when it's something serious, like killing my brother!"

if only i could tell cheryl the truth.

"polly didn't kill jason." betty said. "and you know it, you just cause a scene because that's all a blossom is good for."

betty's comment caused the loudest silence riverdale may ever come to hear. no one had ever stood up to a blossom before, not even a blossom to a blossom. mostly no one did it in fear of what was to come after.

betty was about to find out.

"excuse me?" cheryl said. "you did not just go there with me?"

"i did." betty said. "what's little miss no good blossom gonna do?"

the silence was back, even louder than before. it was tense to watch them bicker to each other but also sort of entertaining. i mean i out of all people shouldn't be enjoying this, but it gave me a nice bit of comfort. is that weird to admit?

"nine o'clock this sunday." cheryl said, quieting the silence. "be there on the dot, no later. polly's trial is now in order. and all thanks to whom you call little miss no good blossom." cheryl started to turn around but before she could walk off too far she paused. "good luck sunday, you'll need it."

cheryl's little group walked off into the forest, far away from polly's shack. part of me wished i had spoke up, but it was probably good i didn't. things were looking bad, and it was clear i wasn't alone to think that.

i looked over at betty who had just started to cry. do i blame her? no. she just owned cheryl, and cheryl doesn't digest these sorts of things well.

what could i do about it, nothing. and betty knew that, she's not stupid. but there was one thing i could do, comfort her. i wasn't gonna let this opportunity go to waste.

"hey betts," i say walking over to her. "you okay after that scene?"

without any doubt, betty latches on to me in a hug formation. it was nice, expect for the warm tears i could feel drip down my jacket. but i wasn't gonna complain, betty had enough stuff happening. her warm tears are nothing compared to it.

"i'm taking that as a no." i said.

"juggie," betty said pulling away. "this whole thing is my fault, you really don't have to so supportive. i don't deserve it."

"betty don't tell yourself that." i said comforting her. "you're so much stronger than you think."

her blue eyes had met mine. "you think so?"

i nodded. "i said it, didn't i?"

after the brief sad moment, betty and i mutually agreed to tell polly about the lawsuit. it had seemed she listened in and knew that the blossoms were there but as for the lawsuit, this was new information to her.

"a lawsuit?" polly asked, just as betty did. "what's the use in that?"

"i don't know." berry said. "but we're gonna get through this polly. and jughead is gonna help."

polly looked up at me. "you will, umm jughead was it?"

i nodded as i chuckled at her forgetfulness. "i will."

and with that, i left betty and polly. the two sister needed alone time, with was okay. my questions could wait, wait until sunday. if you know, they lived to see that day.

which that sunday was the scariest sunday i had ever seen take place. and you'll see why.
