chapter twenty three

that sunday had finally passed, all now rolled in the dreaded monday. nobody likes a monday, not even monday likes itself. but right now, i could use a monday, it couldn't be any worse than the sunday we just survived.

for the beginning half of the school day, i stuck close to betty, making sure she'd last through it the morning with a breakdown. there were times i truly doubted betty's ability to last. but yet again, betty continues to surprise me. she's quite wonderful.

and brave for that fact. not once did she mention that fake car crash. though she did look like she needed to have a nice long cry all morning but yet that unbreakable smile still was bulletproof.

some rays of sunshine stay shining in the rainiest of days.

on another note, we still haven't talked about that kiss, and for good reasons too. i'm not sure what i felt was mutual. but knowing betty it probably wasn't. for all i know she's still in love with archie.

love never fades, it never goes away, and it never dies. and sadly for me, that fact remains with betty's love for archie. though it appears i still do not know what she sees in him. with looks like those, she could way better. in fact way better than me myself.

but as much as it was a betty centered day, she wasn't the bullseye. i was looking for cheryl, yet again. me and betts looked everywhere for her but we found nothing.

that was until lunch.

i agreed to sit with betty and archie, to discuss our plan with polly. this seemed to be our only choice for a private meeting. but that meeting was crashed, and at this point who isn't even a surprise anymore.

"well it's 3/5 of the depressing breakfast club." cheryl said. she took a seat next to archie.

"what do you want cheryl?" i snarled.

cheryl gave me a grizzled stare. "can't a girl interact with her... lower quality classmates."

"be gone witch, you have no power here." betty quoted.

cheryl rolled her eyes. "look guys, i'm usually a very kind person, but..."

"usually?" i cracked back.

"okay sometimes..."

"sometimes?" betty added.

"okay rarely..."

"rarely?" archie said.

cheryl stomped her foot in anger. "okay i'm a real jerk all the time but..."

"jerk is a bit of an understatement." i said. "maybe try not sugar coating yourself."

wish i could have done mic drop at that moment.

"SHUT IT HOBO!" the queen of hearts yelled. "look i know i messed up, but i'm making it up to you." cheryl leaned down into her bag to grab three envelopes. she quickly passed them out to us.

"is this the fancy way to sue us?" betty said.

cheryl shook her head. "it's an invitation. my family is hosting a dinner party in my brothers honor. i got a plus 5 since my family didn't want any plus ones. so i invited you and your depressing gang to come and join."

"wait," archie said. "we're having dinner in a courtroom? AWESOME!"

cheryl shook her head again. "it's at our beloved home. this saturday evening, i hope you'll be joining us." a tear i supplied is fake falls and cheryl wipes it away. "jason would have loved for you to come as guests."

i took a long, deep look at the invite. seems oddly suspicious. i didn't know whether i could trust this, or this was another one of cheryl's plans.

"there is no way..." i begin.

"we will be there!" betty cuts me off.

cheryl gives us a smirk. "glad you can come. dress nice, i'm mainly talking to wednesday adams over there."

and just like that cheryl walks away. but i didn't focus on that, i was focused on betty. why did she said we'd be there?

"what are you thinking betts?" i sternly asked.

"don't worry it's all for a plan." betty said. "i know the blossoms are hiding polly, if we go we might find her."

not bad betty, not bad.

i nod in approval. i'm typically the smart one of this trio, but lately i haven't been proving this fact as needed. i was gonna leave this one on betty, so if it fails it for once won't be my mistake.

our fate lies in betty's hands.
