Stella's POV
After a week or so, Adrian tried to ask me to prom again, this time he had adout 15 roses and a sign that just said Prom? but I still said no, I wanted this to be memorable. I told him I'd go with him if he asked me in a good way. The next day, Josh asked me if I'd go with him and I felt terrible. Everyone kind of knew Josh was gay even though he hadn't come out officially and I knew he wasn't about to ask a guy to prom so I guess I was his back up. I had to say no though, I had already told Adrian if he could find a better way to ask I would, so I couldn't tell Josh yes. I would have loved to go to prom with him though.
We had a speech meet that weekend at a school in a town very close nearby and Adrian and Easton came and watched. Aurora got third in her poetry (a cute collection of poems by Shel Silverstein) and I got fourth in humorous (my piece was about Disney moms in a therapy group). Everly had state qualified in EPR and Laine almost had, she got second. Aria had finally state qualified in storytelling but she hadn't been able to do her duo with Xavier because he called her at six this morning and told her he had thrown up and wasn't coming.
It had been fun and afterwards we went out to eat (the speech kids, not Adrian) and we played truth or dare at Easton's house for a while but Aria had to go babysit and we soon realized it wasn't as much fun without Adrian, Xavier, and Aria.
A few days past and I finally got the promposal I had been hoping for. I was in my pointe class and afterwards, I went back to the dressing room and got changed. I said goodbye to Aria and Aurora who had their pointe class after mine and walked outside with one of my other dance friends. As she pulled open the door, I walked through and swung my pointe shoes over my shoulder and accidentally whacked the guy standing just outside the door. "Ouch!" Adrian exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" I squealed.
"No, no, I'm fine," he said.
After realizing who it was I said "What are you doing here?"
"I came here to ask you a very important question. Stella," he held up a sign that read 'Stella, you'd be a purrrfect prom date' and said, "Stella, will you go to prom with me?" At that moment, the door behind me swung open and Aria stepped out, still wearing her leotard. She brought her hands out from behind her back and held out the tiniest, cutest, fuzziest kitten I had ever seen. I took it from her and hugged it close to me.
"Oh. My. Cat," I said in shock. "Yes!" I spun around and hugged Adrian as tight as I possibly could. I heard Aria and some other people clapping and someone whistled.
"Thank God, I was running out of ideas," Adrian sighed.
"Actually, this was my idea," Aria said from the doorway, "Crap, I need to get to class, bye!"
The door closed behind her and my other friend walked away, leaving Adrian and I alone on the steps. "So, I don't think I even have your phone number, I'm going to need that so I can send pictures of dresses and stuff."
"That'd probably be a good idea." He pulled out his phone and I handed him mine. We put our numbers into each other's contacts. We made plans to go dress shopping sometime two weeks from now with my other friends and their dates if they wanted to come. I already had an idea about the style of dress I wanted but I'd have to wait and see.
I started thinking about prom and my friend and stuff and realized, it was March 16th. I grabbed my phone and called Willow. "Be ready, I'm picking you up in ten minutes," I said and hung up before she could protest. Then I called Alonzo and explained that he needed to meet us halfway between his town and Sioux Falls and not ask any questions. I picked up Willow and made sure she was dressed nice and we started driving. Although she had been reluctant to get in the car, she actually seemed nervous and maybe even a little bit excited for it.
"What do I do? What do I say?" she asked urgently.
"Take a deep breath, it'll be fine. All you need to do is ask him if he wants to go to prom with you. I think he already kinda has a guess at what's going on and I don't think he'd drive out to the rest stop in the middle of nowhere I told him to meet us at if he was planning on saying no," I reassured her. She seemed slightly less nervous after that,
We got to the rest stop and Alonzo's car was already there. I stayed in the car and watched as they approached each other. I saw Willow open her mouth to start talking and before she said anything he said, "Yes." I saw a confused look cross her face and he explained something. She nodded and laughed before turning to me and gesturing for me to get out of the car and go over there. I did and they had me take a picture of them together. It was ADORABLE.
We drove back and I dropped Willow back off at home. Now all of us but Aria had dates. I honestly wasn't sure who would ask her but I wasn't too worried. Even if no one asked her from our school, I knew she knew a good number of more that decent looking guys from speech that she'd have no problem asking if she needed to. I guessed we'd have to wait and see.
