Hayley's P.O.V.
I ran my fingers over the glass image staring back at me. I looked at the blue eyes, brown hair, and buldging stomach. The mirror showed my pregnant body mimmicking my every move. The purple fabric of my tee shirt ran over my sillouette, creating a bump just above my waist band. Today I was getting my three month check up at the mother and infant center in the hospital. I had called Josh and Alex to come with me so I wouldn't have to be alone. Normally Lauren would go, but she said she had to go do something to transfer the lease downstairs.
~Three Hours Ago~
"Hey, can you sign this?" Lauren asked me holding a packet of papers and a black ballpoint pen.
I looked up at her and asked curiously, "What is it?"
"Well, the front desk called and said that since I'm living here now that you have to sign something saying that I'm an 'official resident of this apartment complex' as he put it." she repied quickly.
"Oh, okay." The pen danced over the white typed pages above the line saying, 'sign here'. Hayley Simpson was now forever printed on this paper. I didn't read what was on the contract though. Too late. There was a piece of paper covering the headline of the company. I brushed it off, thinking it was nothing ad handed the papers back to Lauren.
"I'll go take these down to the front desk. It might take a couple hours since they have to analyze everything, so I don't think I can take you to your appointment. Is that okay?" She asked me, but something seemed off about it. It wasn't the same weird, awkward Lauren. She seemed nervous and on edge.
"Uhhhh... yeah that's fine. I guess I'll call Josh and Alex and see if they can take me." I eyed her down, looking to see if my death glare would break her down. Maybe if I just asked her, she would tell me whaat was going on. Hell no, she's Lauren. Hitler couldn't get her to talk.
"Okay then." she said, sounding very rushed, and she ran out of the door without another word.
~Back to the Present~
A knock on the door awoke me from my thoughts and flashbacks. I ran over to the front room and grabbed my purse as I applied my favorite shade of baby lips. I pulled on the door knob and saw Josh and Alex standing in the hall. "Hey guys! Thank you so much for coming so last minute. My friend cancelled a few hours ago, and I just can't bring myself to go alone."
"Oh, don't worry! We had nothing to do today and we were actually hoping to come to one of these appointments. I'm just so excited to have a family!" Alex yelled, and I giggled, glad that the adoptive parents could be my friends too.
"Okay, let's go!" Josh said happily, and we rushed past the other doors and down the elevator. Once we were outside I saw their car and my jaw dropped. They had a silver cadillac, and it looked brand new.
"Wow. You guys have a really nice car." I complimented them, still admiring their ride. I walked towards the back seat. My fingers grazed the handle and i gently pulled it open.
"Oh no way. You're pregnant, we're not going to make you take the backseat. Here, ride shotgun." Alex said, and I thanked him. Josh opened the door for me, like a gentleman, and then hopped in the driver's seat.
"So," said Alex, by now I had learned that he was the gossiper of the two. But I knew that if i told him somthing he would never tell. He just liked to know things. "who is the father of our little baby?"
My throat went dry and I stared at the ground for a few moments. They could sense my uncomfort. "I'm sorry if i was intruding. I didn't mean to-"
"No, it's fine." I cut him off. They deserved to know the story. Besides Lauren, Josh and Alex were my closest friends right now. "He's my ex-boyfriend. It's kind of a long story, but I think you guys should know since this is going to be your baby." They both nodded their heads, and Alex looke d at me in anticipation. Josh had his eyes glued to the road, though. "I was a senior in high school, and there was a student teacher in my chemistry class. He was young, only 21, and I was 18. I had a giant crush on him." They both chuckled at my innocence. "One day I got in trouble in his class and, uh, things happened." Their eyes widened and I bowed my head. "Then a year later I was on vacation for spring break. I was driving through Southern Californa and my car ran out of gas, and y phone died. I started walking towards the nearest hotel when I was jumped. I got away from them and I ran to first house I saw and just ran in. It was the student teacher's house. I stayed there for a while and I mentioned that I didn't really want to go to Santa Monica with my friend Lauren. By then we had become pretty friends. He invited me to go to Miami with me, so I did. Why not have a little fun, ya know? While were there, uh, more stuff happened. We loved eachother. I had to go back to New York and he had to go back to California, so we broke it off. We both knew that if we were n a long distance relationship, that it wouldn't work. We figured it was better to say goodbye in person, rather than over facetime. A couple days later I found out I was pregnant."
