Hayley's P.O.V.
Today was dreary and rainy. It always was in Wholes Town. The water droplets rolled down the window of our car. There were fields and fields and fields rolling past my eyes at 50 miles an hour. I felt something touch my knee. I looked over and Louis had placed his hand on my leg. Not sexually, but to comfort me. I took his hand in mine as we drove through the country roads. A tear rolled down my cheek. We pulled up to the parking lot and I picked up the flowers we got on the way here. I saw the huge red sign hovering over the entrance. It read 'WHOLES TOWN CEMETARY' in bold letters. I remember the last time I saw my brother.
~*FLASHBACK*~
"Dad, I don't want to go."
"Hayley, you promised this girl you would go to her birthday party." My dad argued.
"I barely even know her. She never talks to me!" I really didn't want to go because she pantsed me once last year in seventh grade.
"You are going and that's final." He said through clenched teeth. He was starting to scare me. "Now go get ready. You look like crap." He had always been this mean since mom walked out on us. He rarely smiled, and never had any regard for anyone's feelings.
I walked up the stairs and into my room. I closed the door and sighed. I looked through my clothes until I decided for a pair of blue jeans, a hoodie and a black camisole with my converse. My hair was already straight, so I didn't do anything to it. I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until high school so that took care of that. All I had left to do was go get a baseball hat from my brother's room since it was going to be sunny there. I opened his door and he was sitting there on his bed. "Can I borrow one of your hats?"
"Sure." He said flatly. Something was wrong with him, it was obvious.
"Are you okay, Tyler?" I questioned his sad face.
"Sorta. It's nothing you should worry about, sis." He tossed me a red hat from his nightstand and brought me into his arms.
"Why are you hugging me? I'm just going to be gone for a few hours."
"No reason. I just love you, Hayley." He said into the hat I was wearing.
"Um... okay? Love you too I guess."
With that I walked out of his room wearing his favorite red baseball hat, and feeling confused and awkward.
5 HOURS LATER
The birthday party, to be honest, sucked. It was extremely boring. "Hayley go inside, get your brother and tell him dinner is ready."
"Okay. What are we having?"
"Leftovers. Now go." Life was hell with my dad. I just hoped it never got worse.
I hopped out of the car and across our front yard towards the front door. I kicked off my converse and put my hoodie on the hook on the wall. I walked up the stairs and into Tyler's room but he was lying on the bed.
"Tyler wake up." I shook his shoulder but he didn't move. "Tyler" I shook him harder. "Tyler, come on. Quit messing with me." He didn't respond again. "Tyler! Tyler! Tyler!" I cried out his name and my dad ran through the door. He saw what was going on and started doing CPR on him. I stepped back and time stopped for me. It was like everything was moving in slow motion. I was breathing on water and choking for air. I picked up the note on the desk labeled 'hayley'. I unfolded the crispy white paper between my shaking hands.
If you're reading this, then you know what happened. I'm sorry to you and dad. I know I'm hurting you, but I was hurting too much to stop myself. Not today though. I wasn't hurting anymore. I just felt numb. It's not that I couldn't feel the pain, it's just i wasn't afraid of hurting anymore. I could barely feel anymore, and I knew it was time to let go. I'll be watching over you, Hayley. I'm sorry I can't be the big brother you need right now. Stay safe, sis. I love you forever. Love, Tyler
